Feinstein: You’re Not a Real Journalist Unless You Draw a Salary

I could seriously see her saying this. The liberals are really ticked off at the journalists as of late...

To me its just crazy talk here.... But from her can you expect anything less...

California Senator Dianne Feinstein has proposed an amendment to the Media Shield Law – an irrelevant law ignoring protection already afforded by the First Amendment – that would limit the law’s protection only to “real reporters,” not bloggers and other upstart alternative media types.

A real reporter, declared Madame Feinstein during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, is “a salaried agent” of a media company like the New York Times or ABC News, not a shoestring operation with volunteers and writers who are not paid.

Feinstein voiced her concern “that the current version of the bill would grant a special privilege to people who aren’t really reporters at all, who have no professional qualifications,” like bloggers and citizen journalists.

Sounds like a good way to be able to restrict journalists and only approve those with a partisan viewpoint.

Seems like another attempt to silence any who speak out against the status quot. You have no rights to free speech unless you are paid to speak. What next, passing news articles through the white house for approval?

To examine her logic, or rather, contorted view on just how and who the First Amendment protects, we need to examine the First Amendment.

The First Amendment is designed to strictly and directly prohibit the Government from interfering with the free exchange of ideas and the means at which those ideas are disseminated. The word "press", at the time of the debate and writing of the Bill of Rights, meant the machinery that helped speech reach the furthest possible means; not the "media", "journalist", "writers", "bloggers", etc and etc.

It was designed to explicitly protect the People and the ability to reach as far as possible given the technology at hand. For the late 1700s, it was a printing press. For the Early 21st century, it is digital communication.

She is repeating what her corporate (read: big donors who want to control the medium) want. They know if they can get Government to regulate it, they control it.

Read this earlier today. So if this becomes law and if you are a serious blogger or citizen journalist you'd better create an LLC and then pay yourself $1 a month in salary. Pain in the butt but for serious private journalists this may be the protection you need.

Or you show cause and precedents and smack the Government down. Sadly, I used to think that would help but they just don't care about the Rule of Law anymore. Just find another way to regulate it.

They never abolished slavery, just gave it a face lift. Its all about control, done up in the illusion of democracy.

So, basically what Feinstein is saying is even the real news outlets are not
safe, look no further than Press Gate ....but if your a start up, dont even think about it.

The whole thing could be a ruse.

Watch them present false arguments and meaningless red herrings and then it never goes to vote.

They just want people to think they are doing something about something they themselves created and got caught doing

First of all Feinstein is no freaking liberal!! She is a warmonger extraordinaire. She is part of the machine. She is a made woman.

To call her a liberal just because she has a (D) at the end of her name is just ridiculous.

Just look at her actions and voting record.. Oh yeah and check out her committee assignments. She is the Godmother. Don't get it twisted.


And having said all of that: When she speaks, she is speaking for both parties. They don't want any "independent" journalism going on. They already have the MSM bought and paid for.

Don't forget by this modification of the Media Shield Law, student journalists earning course credits while writing for school newspapers will no longer be afforded protection, as well.
