Sigh. Another day, another criminal cop caught on film.

Show me the law where you have to receive a beating when you shop lift.

The other guy is right, you might as well be a sociopath if you believe someone should be beaten for stealing some clothes.

Pathetic.

Both of you are weak on reading comprehension. No where did I discuss what followed the theft. I commented that if you give the police no cause to look at you you generally don't get their attention.

So most everyone here says she 'deserved' the beat down. So all crimes are now met with violence? What I am getting from most respondents is it is okay to be beaten if you do anything wrong. Does this attitude include being stripped searched on the side of the road? After all, they were pulled over for a reason. So if you are pulled over for speeding is that just a beating you deserve? Or is that broken bones territory?

As an American I must say Americans are now becoming the lowest forms of life on this planet. To justify being hospitalized over a cheap shirt is a new low. As long as people live in a society, there will be crime. It is the human condition. And if ANY of you say you have never committed even the smallest of offences, I will call you a liar.

The reason we have a judicial system is to curb vigilantism. We do not need the cops playing Judge Dredd. If you are okay with her receiving this kind of treatment then it is good enough for your mothers, sisters and daughters. Screw 'em if they make a mistake in life. Just beat some sense into 'em and that'll learn 'em.

I have never felt shame at being an American, but today I do. And it is not because of the cops, but because of those who would defend such a blatant act of violence against an individual who did not deserve it.

Edit: And for those who say she shouldn't have stolen in the first place, that is an invalid argument for what this video shows. The woman should have been arrested and that is it. When does the brutality stop? And by anyone saying if she hadn't stolen she wouldn't have gotten attacked, you are just defending the increasing violent nature of LEO's.

What a chicken comment. Ever heard of police going out on people that haven't done a crime? Police brutality is soaring through the roof, so don't give me that BS saying "well if your not doing anything wrong, dont worry about running into the police."

You may as well be living in 1984 with that crap.

"Don't steal and you won't run into the police. Problem solved."

Now this is weird. It sort of sounds like your implying she deserved it, and then the other half is the classic crap saying I mentioned before.

"First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me."

Sucks she met with the wrong officer on the wrong day but I bet she won't shoplift again....

I bet she wont either after the civil suit and hefty settlement. Would that mean the crime does pay?

Ok I agree don't beat the shoplifters but if she does get a hefty check will justice have been served? Makes me wonder.

Now as far as the cop is concerned anyone who knows me knows he should be fired with NO CHANCE of serving on any other force in any other state in the Union ever again!

Aren't you glad there were surveillance cameras to catch this? Otherwise, we would never really know what happened.

We would know what happened. All the facts would be in the police report:

"We were processing suspect when she became combative and took a threatening stance. She grabbed a lamp and swung it several times at both officers. Officer A charged at suspect and managed to grab the weapon from suspect. Officer B charged at suspect and threw suspect to the ground with a shoulder throw. Suspect produced a knife and started swinging wildly, at which time both officers delivered punches, taser blasts and finally pulled their pistols.

Under threat of being shot, suspect quit resisting."

Clearly you have serious psych issues. You make unfounded assumptions based on zero evidence.

I say what I mean and nothing more.

That's clearly excessive force in use. It doesn't matter what was transpiring in conversation between the cop and her. Show me where its written in law where a cop can beat a person if the person calls them a name. This would come under laws of provocation and resisting arrest possibly, so go ahead and someone quote the law where beating is allowed.

End the finger biting thing is a weak diversion excuse as its clearly obvious she wasn't a physical threat and other more passive ways could of been used to restrain her, if the intention was to cuff her. Two cops were there one either arm etc.

No no excuses on this one the cop needs to go court, dismissed or at least undergo demotion and extreme reprimand

Wow. I mean... wow. Really?

Ok, both have done wrong. She gets arrested and gets a fine. Cop should be arrested and put in jail for assault and abuse of power. Oh and he should be beat to a pulp. Then you can say he wouldn't get the s@&$ kicked out of him if he didn't commit a crime.

Police aren't judges, they can't determine the punishment.

A lot of the responses I'm seeing here, and youtube, are that she could have avoided the situation if she just hadn't shoplifted. Obviously her being on the phone, and the copper telling her to get off and her not getting off was cause for a beat down. She deserved the ol' five knuckle shuffle because she wouldn't mind her bosses orders.

What happens when you're walking down the road, minding your own business and a cop is having a bad day and decides to stop you and have a chit chat and you aren't too keen on the idea and refuse? It'll be fight night with you and the guy with a badge and a gun, and a whole lot of people spouting off that lame old "if he just would've listened to the nice officer, he wouldn't have had his face smashed in."

I can't believe we just look this off as she deserved it when our police should be held to a higher standard than the average thief, able to show some restraint in a situation such as this.

Kill em all if they break the law, right?

What about this lady? She deserved it, right? Yep, those cops are reeeeeaaaaal nice guys that are always looking out for your best interest, and only out to put the dangerous criminal in their place.

Well now wait a minute! According to a few people on here, and a callous millions around the States, if he didn't want to get shot he shouldn't have call the officer a disrespectful word! The city should give her a raise, as she is now apparently the judge, jury, and executioner!

I hope the internets doesn't cloud my sarcasm in this post.......

She didn't even stand up, and was simply SITTING THERE. She might have said something, but there is no indication that she had any sort of weapon, and speech is NOT justification for what he did. I did notice that another officer did step in, and try to remove him. The officer that struck her should be removed from the force, and she should file a lawsuit against him. The chief should grow a pair and admit this cop screwed up, apologize for him, and stop trying to downplay the event.
