Nothing wrong with Missy Elliot!
She happens to be one hell of an artist!

I used to wake up with this song playing in my head a lot....lol

No doubt she is a fantastic entertainer, but is she an actual singer. All her songs are mostly just her talking with a beat. so..more poetry with a beat really.
Not saying she isn't fantastic at what she does, just not sure I would qualify her as a singer.

I consider poetry a form of music, but same could be said for Bob Dylan,
but I guess that is a matter of opinion.

Ok, just one more, although I know I will think of more after I stop posting, but to me, and I am almost mad at myself for forgetting her, Jewel, ranks in the top female singers for me.

I use to like Kelly Ali's voice but never really knew what happened to her after splitting from Sneaker Pimps.

Was a good album.

Use to jam pretty much every song on there.

Becoming X kicked ass!

If I just stay here, close my eyes can you still see me ?
Obsolete, very nearly something to see
Still see me, I can't wake up for sleeping
Incomplete, very nearly something to be

Very nearly something to be

I love that Amy Winehouse Song!

Almost prophetic though

Another great artist cut short.

There are a lot of female musicians on this thread I have never heard before!
That's awesome!

I love, love Patty Griffin. She writes the saddest, most haunting songs. I love to cry to a Patty Griffin song.

Thank you
I absolutely love her voice and her song writing abilities in equal measure's! I love that a lot of her song's contain abstract narratives. I like music that make's me think......When I first heard her song "Eet" I had to find out what "Eet" was!
lol
