President Barack Obama is considering using military force in Syria, and the Pentagon has prepared various scenarios for possible United States intervention.

Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the Obama administration is deliberating whether or not it should use the brute of the US military in Syria during a Thursday morning Senate hearing.

Gen. Dempsey said the administration was considering using “kinetic strikes” in Syria and said "issue is under deliberation inside of our agencies of government,” the Associated Press reported from Washington.

So much for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Whats everyones thoughts on the name 'Kinetic' ?

Sounds like thermal scalar weaponry to me or Damascus being reduced to rubble; AGAIN with no after death or radiation sickness.

I'm sick of the B.S. with our leaders and war, end one, start one, start another, end one, start another, start another. We can't pit all the blame on the leaders because it's the dumb young kids that suit up, kill a bunch of people then come back to America crying about the horrible stuff they did, or they commit suicide and take a few people with them. These puppets need to use their brains.

Rods From God

They claim that this is not deployed yet or even 5 years from being ready/created.

Scary stuff.

The madness continues.

Question for our american posters. Is the american public buying this pantomime?

Unlike Iraq and to a lesser extent Libya, in the UK I don't know a single person that thinks we should be involved in Syria. It'll be politically very difficult for the UK to put conventional forces in there.

I think those leading have lost their marbles.

I do love how RT Russian media made that sound like the latest GI JOE movie.

Since Russia has been in Syria for 2 years and providing deadly weapons to prop up it's puppet regime.

This is funny considering in other news today:

The US is getting scolded for not doing enough

Damned and Damnder.

They used the word kinetic in the assault on Libya too. It's just another PR name rather than say "war".

Talking of Libya, what a mess that place is. Destroy it then off to another war, all for the bankers of course, with no post conflict plan in place other than the imposition of another private central bank system.... and all that country's money and gold bullion in the vaults of western banks. On a smaller scale, it's called armed robbery!

But hey, we're bringing freedom and democracy to them, and that good old western banking that will see the people become debt slaves forever, just like us!

Don't blame the soldiers or the military. Honestly, I think humans are just messed up. We're always creating violence and reasons for another war. You know, the US doesn't need to "start" these wars. These wars were in motion long ago. They just only emerged recently in the open.

I know people want to help, but I think some things are outside our control.

Like it or not, the US has become somewhat of a world authority. Our military is more funded and more technologically ahead than any other. We WILL enter into military engagements.

What if?

US military uses a totally new, never publicly seen before weapon that would level Damascus without radioactive side effects.

Like "rail-gun" or something from a satellite directly above Damascus.

As a "F-You" warning to the rest of the world and saying "we mean business, so try us".

I beleive its the only way they would get away with any form of intervention there, and yes, it would be a major escalation to a new level I beleive the likes the US has never seen before......

it would put the US on a "permamnant" war footing moving forward against everyone.

Throwing in a few Special Forces there is just asking for another Black Hawk Down scenario.

Its either ALL or NOTHING........

I guess you prefer the Saudi owned Syrian National Council to rule over then? with no clear leadership? as for the talks of US preparing for military action in Syria.

How could they be preparing for military action in Syria when the none exist moderate opposition is being supported by the Saudis?

Well, the middle east is the playing ground of the big boys globally speaking.....and it all centers around Egypt / Syria and Iran at the moment. They all want to control the oil.....not as in physically owning it, but controlling the access to it.

Egypt for the Suez Canal / Sumed Pipeline, a vital cog in the transport of oil in the middle east and Iran for the Strait of Hormuz, the other crucial piece. As to Egypt, the military is a puppet of US interests so Egypt is in the hands of the US (and you may say how so - well Egypt gets billions in aid from the US, do you think much of that gets to the people?.....the generals are pocketing that cash)

As to Russia, they have close ties to Iran and their ally, Syria. Russia is giving weapons to Syria because they know once Syria get involved so to does Iran. If Iran falls to the UN / US forces then they lose just about all control of oil in the Middle East. I don't think they are going to be quit about that....do you?

Do not need anything special just a 1970s neutron device that 'kills all' and levels nothing; infrastructure remains intact..... Won't happen unless finger pointing can be directed away from the USA.

I doubt the USA will get involved with the full force of the American military simply because Russia and no telling who else will bluster and reject such actions by the US.

Very few (none) governments are willing to die for an altruistic cause and world war is suicide IMO> Bullies back down if met with equal or greater force unless they believe they have God on their side or some other fantasy of justifying their war....... We do this and we get X; we do this and lose X...simple formula. Is it worth the effort for the wanted goal?

Covert is the way to go, let others do the dirty work (and die) and all it cost is paper money. Who ever is left standing and in control afterwards are weakened and in need of assistance which is a wonderful opportunity for whoever to give assistance and exercise some directed control. The grand plan is actually simple and has been used over and over again...Problem is now there are more and more players involved with their own agendas.

wow, awesome link! Thanks! had no ideas these existed!
'Kinetic Weapons' was the term used in the sci fi novel 'footfall'; the attacking aliens (intelligent elephants) deployed rocks and junk from space to bomb earth targets. the gravity was a force multiplier, per se.

nothing new under the sun; back in WWI (that's the FIRST one) pilots dropped darts to the terror of land troops who imagined helmets being impaled on their heads.

That article was written in 2004 so 5 years would have been 2009. My guess is the rods are floating and fully functional.
Thanks for the article. That could make for a VERY bad day!

So I wonder what will be cut to finance this, since we are no longer financially stable. I say we pull the funding from all retired people on SS benefits that they paid into for years, but for G-D's sake don't mention seeking to finance this through corporate and banking billionaires..

Scary how some individuals seem to have their fingers everywhere!

The name Jerry Pournelle jumped out at me from the article you linked to, since I had read his book Lucifer's Hammer back in the day. It's about a post comet strike militarized society. Just to run down all the things he's headed up besides his job as science fiction author.

Jerry Pournelle
U.S. Army during the Korean War
B.S. in psychology on June 11, 1955
M.S. in psychology on March 21, 1958;
Ph.D. in political science in March, 1964.
campaign research director for the mayoral campaign of 1969 for Los Angeles Mayor Sam Yorty
1970 he was a consultant to the Professional Educators of Los Angeles (PELA), a group opposed to the unionization of school teachers in LA

Pournelle was an intellectual protégé of Russell Kirk and Stefan T. Possony. Pournelle wrote numerous publications with Possony, including The Strategy of Technology (1970). Strategy has been used as a textbook at the United States Military Academy (West Point), the United States Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs), the Air War College, and the National War College.[10]

Pournelle's work in the aerospace industry includes time he worked at Boeing in the late-1950s. While there, he worked on Project Thor, conceiving of "hypervelocity rod bundles," also known as "rods from God."[11] He edited Project 75, a 1964 study of 1975 defense requirements

founding President of the Pepperdine Research Institute.

President of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America in 1973

The list goes on and on. He seems to love military might and space use of military.
