What we have here is an equality/civil rights paradox. If you cry for equal rights, get equal rights, then do nothing with them and cry racism at every turn while at the same time being the ultimate racist, that infinity curve ensures it comes back and bites you eventually.

I think my experience is kinda backwards from yours. Fellow white folks have made fun of me forever, but it never got physical until I started going to Vine Middle Magnet School. It was a majority black place, in the heart of the ghetto. Those people stole my stuff, broke it, called me names, and jumped me if I ever stuck up for myself.

I'm not racist, but if I seem a little cold towards racial matters, I'm really not meaning to.

It just bothers me that only white hate crimes seem to qualify as hate crimes, but white kids can get jumped all through school (I wasn't the only non-black getting treated like garbage).and it never makes a story.

I think that the fact that voters said that blacks were more likely to be racist than whites is VERY accurate.

It's the truth. Whites are punished for saying or even THINKING something even REMOTELY 'racist', 'biased', or 'stereotypical', while blacks are free to say anything that they want about other races, and in particular- whites. Society doesn't look down on them for it.

Anyone that says otherwise needs help dislodging their head from their ass.

I hear and read people complaining about a damn word or jokes. Blacks couldn't use alot things, like banks, hospitals, diners, etc. Yet we complain about foolish petty things like words, or whos saying what. Do you want to use it that bad?!?! I live in Detroit, and I'll try to come off as neutral as possible and not be racist. I'm not black, I'm south Asian hence I'm brown. There are two types of black people based on my experience. There are black people then there are ''n-word's'. And ''n-word's' can include white, black, brown, yellow, etc. The term ''n-word'' describes a person that doesn't care about other people (well being, rights, etc), thinks they are above the law, speak rude and violent manner.

In detroit (first hand experience) and some in Baltimore, its hard to deal with ''n-word's'.
- They stare at you, and if you stare back for more than 3 seconds, they approach you as if you want to fight them.
- Stand at some corners, with their pants halfway down, trying to talk to every girl that walks by, in a rude manner (your sisters, daughters, even your wife's aren't safe)
- A group of freinds went to baltimore for a wedding. After words, they went to a party store to get some stuff. Before they could even enter, there were a gang of black guys at the front door and inside, staring them down and asking them what they want and eventually telling them to go back where they came from or they would get jumped (they had Michigan license plates btw)
- My friend works at a parking lot by bunch of clubs near cobo (many of the clubs have been shut down now). He told me that there was one group of black ppl promoting an event so they were putting flyers on most of the cars in the lot. The clubs were about to close (around 2 am), and one of the guys that was putting flyers on cars, went to alley to take a piss. Then came another group of black ppl out the club, who from their angle seen the guy pissing and thought he was pissing on their car. The two groups confronted each other, and eventually guns starting firing. The sad thing is, one of the guys who was wit the 'flyer' group called his friend (Wayne state university football player, great future ahead) to pick him up. He came to the location, and he was shot and killed...


I feel like there is an agenda to keep the black man down.

1. Bring in African slaves from W.Africa
2. Interbreed the best/strongest slaves for generations and generations
3. Now you have black people breeded via natural selection = the best genes
4. Give them freedom, now the white man is scared because the black man has been breeded to be physically superior

Well, the girl that just testified in the George Zimmerman case last week said publicly that she didn't see anything wrong with using the term "cracker" as it was "just how kids talk these days".

So kids don't appear to see anything wrong with using highly racist terms as part of their every day speech, just bccause "that's how we talk these days".

Even if the anger is passed on from generation to generation it is because no one has ever been in a position to heal themselves. I mean take a child whos parents were murdered in front of them. Without therapy they are going to carry an emotional and psychological wound that could create behavior which can be inherited by that childs offspring. Is that not possible. I mean the first time the US apologized for treating people like commodities was well after the millennium. This is disgraceful. The fact that the companies and families lines still profit today from slavery like tobacco companies for example do still exist.
Dr. King said "what doesn't effect you directly can and will effect you indirectly". The indirect results of slavery are showing. We have to play catch up, and people are complaining that we aren't running fast enough(thats a first). Blacks collectively have the lowest income yet they are the targeted by consumers and our the only group with more consumers than producers. During the time when this country developed its "production" we weren't allowed to participate.
In my neighborhood, in within a 10 mile radius all jokes and exaggerating to the side there are about 15 liquor stores AND NONE OF THEM ARE OWNED BY BLACKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well there is a lot of information here, I didn't read it all but I saw something early that I felt the need to reply too.

The way I see it in the military racism is MUCH less likely. All males in my immediate family have been active duty military. That meant I grew up with people of all races and nationalities. When you grow up around everyone you realize there is no real difference and are more likely to reject most of the ignorance some people claim.

I grew up with friends that were black, hispanic, asian and people who didn't even speak english as a first language. Th biggest difference I ever saw was with people who did not speak english fluently, or at all. Yet we learned to communicate and you know what, they were completely human with no real differences either.

We are moving forward but we still have people in power that were alive during segregation times who believed certain races were lesser. As always time will be the ultimate healer if we do not force old wounds open.

We should learn from our past but never use ancient history as a reason to promote current hatred.

i absolutely agree with you here. i'd like to tell you a little story.

when i was a teenager, i had a friend who was a foster child. she had been moved to a new foster home on the outskirts of detroit. i went to visit her and stay for the weekend. we decided to walk down the street to the local burger place and pick up some burgers:

as we were walking, a big white cadillac pulled up across the street (this was a main thoroughfare, wide street with 5 lanes). out jumped to 2 young black guys. one ran across the street ahead of us on the sidewalk and other, behind us on the sidewalk. they both started to converge on our position. the cadillac drove off.

i nudged my friend and said, i think we're in trouble. we were just a couple of young, white females around 16 years of age. we devised a plan where we try to dispel any potential violence by smiling and asking if they had a light (we were both smokers). one of them said sure, if they could have a cigarette. so we gave them cigarettes and they gave us lights, and we all said thanks and started to go on our different ways.

then, one of them grabbed my friend's arm and said, give me the money in your purse. she only had enough for a couple burgers, which at this particular place was 25 cents each and i had no money at all. this was about to get kinda bad. when he grabbed her arm, the other fellow grabbed mine. and he also asked me for money in my purse. i showed him that i had only cigarettes and some junk in my purse. he was alot nicer than his buddy.

when his buddy realized my friend didn't have more than 50 cents, he started getting violent. he tried to drag her behind some nearby apartment buildings at which point, she dropped to the pavement and started flailing and resisting. this caused the guy who was holding my arm, to try the same with me. i followed her example. then my friend got free and ran out into the 5 lane street and started waving her arms madly and screaming for help.

within seconds a car pulled up and out of it got the tallest black man i had ever seen. in the deepest voice you can imagine he said, WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? and poof our two assailants were gone. the guy then drove us safely home but not before lecturing us on what a couple of dingbats we were. hehe

moral of the story: i could've chosen to go away from that incident only thinking badly of black people or i could go away from that experience, realizing, that everyone is different. we are individuals, color is LITERALLY only skin deep. he was my hero.

Wow, I've read through a lot more and there are some very sad but probably not surprising posts. I've seen comments about the black community whining, comments about how are they down, about how long it has been since slavery and so on.

Let's include some facts here, slavery is not the only horrible thing the black community in the U.S. has had to endure and it is by no means the most recent. However it is sill the root cause of all of the issues that continue on to today.

The fact is up until the mid 1960s (not even 50 years ago), the black community was publicly considered less than the white community and so much so that they were forced to be separate with segregation. They were considered lesser publicly so what did that mean, they had far less opportunity to gain good paying jobs. While segregated they basically were forced to live in the poorest communities filled with liquer stores and so on.

Hello people, as a whole they haven't even had 50 years yet to dig themselves out of their enforced status as a lesser class in the U.S., we are not talking ancient history here. That means right now a lot of the countries leaders grew up during the time period where segregation was common and acceptable practice so our leadership likely fosters some form of learned racism they got from that time period.

We are supposed to be denying ignorance here, you know what the real fact is there are NO different races. The only race that exists is the human race, the human race evolved to live in difference areas. There are actual advantages that caused adapting to have darker skin in the sun just as there are actual advantages to lighter skin and more body hair with less sun.

We are moving forward but the issues caused by outright public racism for a very long time still exist. In another 50 years or 100 years when there is no one alive that had to deal with legally acceptable racism (in the form of being considered a lesser human being) than most of these issues will be non-existent. People that lived through bad times as either purpetrators or victims still influence younger populations but it is less and less as time goes by.

By the way I am white but grew up around every race and never once growing up did I consider there were any real inherent differences between us. We are getting better with time but we need to focus on moving forward.

WHY Many white are 'still racist'.

try being a poor white kid, you have the deck stacked against you, and the minorities have pretty much found ways to discriminate and steal whats left.

the rich white kids are gonna get their--daddy and mommy paid for it. So, 2/3 of all the good stuff is already off the table.

Now, that other 1/3 of the good stuff. No way is it doled out in a fair and orderly fashion. NO WAY should an immigrant minority be given preference for ANYTHING over a kid who has been born in America along with his last 10 generations. A kid who has lost family members due to wars over the decades, whose lineage actually built this nation, should not lose a DIME, SCHOLARSHIP, PROMOTION to anyone.
