Chinese lantern causes factory fire, Chief calls for review.

Thirteen Fire Officers injured. Many people have been saying that this practice was a disaster waiting to happen and early evidence says it has now. Other incidents have already happened on agricultural land and the campaign to ban the releasing of Chinese lanterns is gathering momentum. Of course they are beautiful and have a cultural and spiritual significance but if they are dangerous should they be banned?.

I don't think they are beautiful. I think they have become a bit of a fad for most people.

Nor do I believe the majority of people set them off for cultural or spiritual reasons.

They are a nuisance as they don't biodegrade and can just land in a field somewhere and be eaten by cattle, for example.

But surely, it was a UFO from another planet, not a chinese lantern?

I agree with what you say and incidents of injury to livestock are well documented. The arguments that I presented are not my own but I suspect that they may be trotted out in defence of this dangerous public nuisance.

As I understand from the CCTV footage this was an ifo from this planet, a bit disappointing for this site.

First time I heard it the other way around on this site Usually it is called a UFO and people say it is just a chinese lantern. What is happening to the members here:shk:
