At least a dozen Islamic militants wearing police uniforms shot to death nine foreign tourists and one Pakistani before dawn Sunday as they were visiting one of the world's highest mountains in a remote area of northern Pakistan that has been largely peaceful, officials said.

The foreigners who were killed included five Ukrainians, three Chinese and one Russian, said Pakistani Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. One Chinese tourist was wounded in the attack and was rescued, he said.

The local branch of the Taliban took responsibility for the killings, saying it was to avenge the death of a leader killed in a recent U.S. drone strike.

Well, the Taliban are at it again, this time, murdering 9 toursts that came to visit a mountain range in northern Pakistan, a range that is home to the Himalayans and K2 the second highest mountain in the world. Theyre like cockroaches, squash one and 12 more appear. Terrorist activity appears to be ramping up in Pakistan lately.

Being a backpacker & worldly tourer myself, I find this a tough pill to swallow.

Eventually... some one has to put down the weapon.

isn't the ability to "take" or end a life considered an extremely high and almost exalted action? You better have your stuff figured out, or else you reap some hearty consequences. There is always someone larger than you that can take your life.

This area of the world seems ripe for those who wish to act harshly. They all reap consequences of their actions. We need world peace!

Let Russia and China sort it out. Get America out of it and both those powers are taking internal attacks of various kinds from radical Islamists themselves. They'll act in their own best interests in a positive way for the world, I'm thinking. We don't need to be within a 1,000 miles of it as they do it. Makes it simple. China actually has a direct land border with Afghanistan...even if a small one. Pakistan and China have been doing joint Military drills.

The locals will find a balance and maybe it's brutally done ...if it's the local nations doing it? Well... All the reason to go with the idea now seemingly being followed to spike what won't fly out and get out for Western forces, IMO.

(Heck, Iran almost invaded Afghanistan for us before 2001...it may have eventually happened too, if the Taliban kept torturing and killing Iranian diplomats like they were local citizens to abuse.)

S/F for the catch as I'm sure some areas of ATS do bring some of the avid international travel crowd. This would be an important story for that set.

This may not seem obvious to you, but why on earth would the Taliban kill foreigners over something someone in the USA did? That just doesn't make any sense to me what so ever.

I would love to see a couple companies of Chinese soldiers go over there AND # # UP WITH NO Remorse AT ALL, then they will beg to be drone striked by us.

there's not a blue bar and there country affiliation over there head in real life, maybe in your video games, and they wouldn't simply walk up to them and ask whom they are.

Yep. I was reading about this earlier.

One American is amongst the victims.

Pakistan claims the attacks will continue, in protest over Drone Strikes.

Pakistani militants claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was revenge for drone strikes.

"We carried out (the) attack and killed 10 foreigners in Gilgit-Baltistan. Our attacks on foreigners will continue to protest over drone strikes,"

I guess this is what happens when "tourists go on vacation to a war torn country.
Sure they are not at "full on" war but there are several drone pilots who might just disagree.
This is why my feet will stay firmly planted on what I know as friendly ground.

Chinese soldiers are very honorable and brave they kept charging into marine lines in the Korean war, they don't use subversive tactics like the Taliban and they wont be there to win hearts and minds.

Well, not me. I have no desire to be in a nation with crazy people that like to kill other people because it's fun.

We'll nothing like creating more enemies in the world. Do they really care who they kill anymore? You don't take revenge of a drone strike by the U.S. by killing citizens from another country.

As for the tourists, why would anyone endanger themselves and travel in a country where you know is occupied by Islamic terrorists?

China won't do anything, right now they're not even a prime terrorist target. Probably sitting back laughing at the poor sob the terrorists killed and thinking "we got a billion more where he came from, buahahaha". China doesn't take into consideration when the muslim terrorists are done with us, they will be next and then there won't be any allies they can turn to.

Dude, they don't care what nation or religion you're from, it's never been about that, It's about killing the infidel, which to them is anyone who isn't a muslim and in their own faction and it's more about their own faction because they even kill other muslim. Radicals are rabid dogs that need to be put down.

And why would they be targetting "Chinese" and "Russian" tourists? Tarketing their own supporters? nah ... this has the word "false flag" written all over it.

More likely, it was

"western friendly government agents, posing as taliban executing some alleged spies. hoping to pin it on the taliban, to end whatever little opposition there is to the war in Afghanistan".

I juat read this on Yahoo News, This is horrible.

My nose does smell something fishy though... the Pakistani guides escorting the tourists.

The attackers beat up the Pakistanis who were accompanying the tourists, took their money and tied them up, said a senior local government official. They checked the identities of the Pakistanis and shot to death one of them, possibly because he was a minority Shiite Muslim, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to reporters.

Its like how, some soldiers target innocent Afghan women and children over what some Taliban gunman did to his buddies.

Sorry for the tourists, but Pakistan has suffered thousands of civilian casualties as a result of Nobel peace prize winner Obamas drone strikes. Don't be surprised if those Taliban lost family members to drones. Bad things happen in a war... yet the world acts as if Muslim blood isn't worth the same as others.

Also, WHY do some people think war torn places are actually nice tourist destinations. Of all the beautiful places in the world to visit... why do they pick the worst spots?
