Prime Minister Stephen Harper has repeatedly warned that sending lethal aid to forces trying to oust Syrian strongman Bashar Assad entails the risk of weapons falling into the hands of terrorist-linked groups among Assad’s opponents.

www.thestar.com...

IT appears our Foreign Affairs Minister was pressured in Washington to say they will commit, Harper said it's a no-go. Which I agree with.. US already did this back in the 80s and it back-fired (few other countries before that too).

I think something needs to be done though.. and I';m sure, just like Libya, if NATO tries to implement a No-Fly zone, our Canadian jets will be the right there with US when striking AA and Radar sites around the country.

Glad he grew into the balls Chretien had. Smart decision to not supply weapons, was not smart to side with US on CW allegations.

^ I'd like to see the "evidence", which I'm sure there is so some extent. Even though Russia seems to think it's not damning enough and unconvincing.

Its not exactly impossible to get witness testimony from everyone at site, + test the victims and hospital patients skin to see which chemical was used. OVer time, a few studies. I'm sure some used be Rebels, but more so by the Assad gov't.

Like I said.. I'd want to see actual evidence.

Canada doesn't need the headache from Washington or needs to worry about some uneducated rebels fighting over a chessboard.

Once again, u.s. government should be ashamed of themselves.

Putin slams Cameron: Do you want to supply arms to people who eat their enemies organs?

We in the west have a very different perspective on this situation. Mr. Putin and his government are supporting the thugs of the Assad regime for their own reasons that I do not think are justifiable, and Mr. Putin knows my view on that."

And he dropped his balls, probably couldn't even carry them.

"Look, I think that dialogue will be interesting. I think it's important to have that kind of dialogue. But I don't think we should fool ourselves. This is G7 plus one. OK, let's be blunt. That's what this is, G7 plus one," Harper said Sunday.

Well I know he doesn't speak for me as a Canadian as I left my ballot blank and know for sure where his loyalties stand.

Would it be too much wishful thinking if when Obama gets impeached by the "birthers" or Benghazi along with IRS AP NSA, that the rest of the GOVTS who were his allies fall with the empire they supported by raping murdering plunging and plundering the very people who supported them, in good faith?

When you truly are enlightened, what becomes frightfully scary, is the thought and reality of the punishment fitting the crime and all those who it implies too.

Harper has made the right decision. I can't believe I just wrote that sentence. This is a choice that reflects the values shared by the majority of Canadians.

The people of Syria probably want a much more progressive, modern and democratic government that they have equally, men and women, input into.

However given the burka's, death shrouds, falling over women around them as the CIA/BANNA/NAZI dark side brotherhood rebels, with UK accents according a reporter held hostage by them, many sane Syrians prefer Assad's government to what happened thanks to our Bildenburg group in Libya, in Egypt.

The sign as to how modern a system is, is how the women are dressed!

Excellent! Good for Harper.

I can't see these rebels being better for the stability in the region than Assad and his cronies.

Well I can see Corporate Heads and Bankers loving the rebels. They love fascists, and takeovers and suppression of human rights, it is what they can stability and makes their stocks and bonds do well.

Sickening. Give me freedom and equality and all the joy and happiness of equal safe people everywhere!!!!

What really can we supply them with other than troops?

That's far from happening

Optimism, hope?

I would ask faith in the American people to do what is right, but those odds are 50/50, 60/40

It is all hinges on the American people. If they rebel/protest the world as we know it perceive it, will change for the better, if they let this opportunity slip away, getting rid of Obama, then The world's fate is sealed, and the verdict, not good, nor would the judgement be.
