Since when are headbands considerd to be a religious symbol? I pretty sure I made clear that headbands are more a cultural thing than religious.

Actually the law allows for discreet markers like a small crucifix or Star of David.

Remember, France's motto is "Libert�, �galit�, Fraternit�". In a country where, as in the rest of Europe, there is a small movement advocating send the immigrants back home, the government feels that it needs to implement a rule which:

A) promotes equality by making sure no one is singled out because of his race or religion;
B) upkeeps the principle of the separation of Church and State
