I don’t know whether ATS members out there will find this of interest or not, but it freaked me out yesterday when I first saw it….

Before you carry on reading I just wanted to add that I have not mentioned the names of the people concerned for obvious reasons…

I don’t go on Facebook very often, but by chance yesterday I logged on and the first thing I saw was a photograph posted by an old friend of mine who lives in London, UK. The friend who posted the photograph is the guy wearing the pinkish coloured shirt and kneeling down at the front of the photo. Now if you look to the right of the photo you’ll see an Asian guy with his hand resting on top of a mobile phone on the table. Now that guy with his hand on the mobile phone I thought was another friend of mine who also lives in London.

The first thing that struck me was that I didn’t realize that these two people even knew each other, so I was quite excited to say the least, because they are both really nice guys. Anyway I wrote a quick message to the guy wearing the pinkish coloured shirt and asked him how long he had known the Asian guy who had his hand on the mobile phone. A little later on he replied and told me that the person I was referring to was not the person I thought it was, but was someone entirely different. So after reading what he had written I was really blown away and kept staring at the picture in disbelief, I even thought at one point that my friend was joking with me, but now I am reassured that it is not the person that I thought it was and I know for a fact that he hasn’t got a twin brother.

Now over the years I have always been interested about the topic of doppelgangers and that every person in the world has somebody else in the world who looks exactly the same as what they do. Although I must admit that if there is someone else in the world that looks exactly like me, then I feel really sorry for them…hahaha, but going by what I witnessed yesterday, there is a real possibility that my twin/double/doppelganger is really out there somewhere. You could really have a great deal of fun if you could actually find your doppelganger, the jokes you could play on people could be limitless and they would never find out unless you told them.

So I just wondered what folks thought about doppelgangers, or if anybody else out there had ever witness their own or somebody else’s double. If so, please tell, it seems to really freak me out, but really interests me.

So what do you think?

The doppelganger

My friend

Yeah, that's what I talking about, a strange coincidence or is it the doppelganger you have not yet met? Maybe one day, just maybe you will meet when you least expect it....

I often wonder in these cases...did Father stay and maybe that is a half brother?

I never put much stock into the whole doppelganger thing until about ten years ago. I was going out with this girl. And after a couple weeks her mom showed me a picture of her father who had been absent for the past 15 years or so.

The guy may as well have been a clone of me, needless to say I was a little freaked out. I mean we were the spitting image of each other. This all raised questions of the "daddy issues thing" which at the time I was too immature and unprepared to deal with. But, we managed to end it peacefully, and we are still on good terms.
Still, it was very creepy for me.

Definitely an interesting topic.

Even that's freaking me out now....haha.....brilliant, thanks for sharing your story. Do you have a photo of the both of you, that would really freak me out to say the least.....

OP,

Have you ever heard of Wilkie Collins, a contemporary of Charles Dickens in Victoria England? Collins, who wrote such hits as "The Lady in White," and " The Moonstone," swore he had a doppelgänger who actually lived in his house and wrote part of Collin's novels. He was very persistent in this belief.

Of course, he was also an opium addict, so that may have something to do with it. You can read about Collins with a quick google search.

Interesting topic. S&F.

Sorry, I don't have a picture of her father. If I had one I would post us both. But I would feel very awkward asking for one.

If it helps, at the time we both looked like they guy from Stained.

Yeah, don't create a hornets nest by asking for a photo, but at least I know what you sort of look like......cheers

I once heard someone say everyone on earth has a twin or something like that. I don't know about myself but I do know this. I once saw an individual on the tv show big spin or something like that. Point is, he looked exactly like a friend of mine except he was african american--my friend is asian.

I have a number of name-only dopplegangers. Or one that looks like me but is called shane.

For years I have, I have had people I do not know, come over and start talking to me as if I'm a good mate of theirs. "Hey Shane, hows things." and they get strange looks on their faces when I tell them that I am not Shane, nor do I know them, and that whatever entity is watching over them is playing a joke on them.

And it's not the same circle of people. I don't even have a circle. From random people in the city, to police officers, to people in stores.. "How are the kids?" "Aren't you Lisa's husband?"

Whoever Shane is, I hope he's a good bloke, if he's not then someone might end up doing me a mischief one day Oo

And the name... A number of times I've given my complete full name (4 names, 4..) and there is another guy out there somewhere, with the same name... born on the same month and day, but 2 years earlier.

I do not know if it's a clerical error some yahoo made decades ago, that has somehow filtered out into other areas that had no involvement with me as a teenager, or what.. But he's still active. As in, I was called a few years ago from a debt collection agency. It was only when I told them my DOB was different, that they stopped. Reluctantly.

And what about those people who constantly see. I mean, you can walk to the shops at 6am and there he is, walking back from the shops, with a pie in his hand. Or 4pm going to the train. There he is walking back, with a bag of shopping. Or midday to the library. There he is with the paper.

Different eras and I've had different dudes. Used to be a guy who'd carry a Cymbal everywhere. Had long hair and a whispy beard. Now it's some bald guy named Gordon. I know his name as someone spoke to him as I walked past once. Which is a good thing, as it cleared up any confusion I was having about going completely bonkers.

But the one thing I'm still scratching my head about OP...

I see no Asian in your photos. Oo

must... have... more.... coffee..

Thanks for your very interesting post, you should write a book, I like the way you write...

As for the Asian question, I am presuming that you are in the USA, (forgive me if I am wrong), but in the UK, the term Asian is used for people of an Indian/Pakistan/Bangladesh, etc, background....

Cheers again

They do look very much alike. I bet you freaked out (just a little bit)...for a moment.

About 7 years ago...I would go places and people would say to me...oh I saw you at such and such a place...and mostly the places were night clubs.

I don't go to night clubs and I don't drink booze; and this other woman did...and sometimes when I told people that was not me...but someone that looked like me...they wouldn't believe me...that is how much this person looked liked me. I never did see her; I wish I had.

Wow, it's a shame you couldn't have bumped into her sometime, now that would be really freaky to stand there looking at her, a bit like looking in a mirror, but without the mirror.....cheeeeers
