Truck Driver Beaten For Asking To Read Ticket

Here we go again... Same old boring news. Cops beating innocent people.

There's got to be more to it then what the article says.

Perhaps the driver got mouthy and violent? Either way, it doesn't justify the cops beating him but in the same breath did the man act unreasonably?

California's finest. This is sad. But I would love to see if there are additional sources. This is a crazy case because I hate police who go berserk and attack for no real reason. Defending yourself is one thing, attacking is different.

(Quote) from the article:

"On September 2nd, 2011, Russian immigrant Olegs Kozacenko was driving his truck when he was pulled over by Officer Andrew P. Murrill of the California Highway Police. Murrill attempted to ticket him for driving too many hours in the truck. Kozacenko refused to sign the ticket before reading it." (unquote)

I think the police exhibited misplaced anger; or maybe the Policeman was just a jerk!

And how convenient:

Police officials claim that there is no video of the altercation and that all associated radio logs have been deleted by system malfunctioning for this time period.”

This is crazy, this man was seriously messed up:

"injuries including a crushed left orbital eye socket, multiple facial fractures, a broken left arm, a concussion, unconsciousness and possible neurological damage.”

I find it hard to believe that he was

“actively resisting” and “exhibiting extraordinary strength”
.

Just another case of cops going overboard and beating people for failure to obey them in every and all instances. Contempt of cop. "Don't read it! Sign it! NOW" "Do what i say! Now!"

And these cops still have their jobs, apparently:

Murrill and Sherman remain employed by the CHP.

In court testimony,

Murrill admitted that he was confused, either by the law governing the hour limits for truck drivers or by reading the truck driver’s log book. Murrill also admitted on the witness stand that he was not a trained commercial vehicle specialist and did not call to ask for a commercial vehicle specialist to help at the scene.

This cop needs to be fired, sued, cover medical expenses, and get anger management counseling.

Do you think you could maybe quote something from the article and give your opinion instead of posting a link and a line?

I would like to know what you think about all of this; what are your opinions?

I am wondering if the police were so violent with him because he was a Russian immigrant; and the Boston Bombers were Russian immigrants too. I think the police exhibited misplaced anger.

Interesting story but I think you are off by about a year for it to have been associated with the Boston bombing.

I would love to give my opinion..but I placed a link to the entire story in place of my personal opinion. (If I give my opinion the mods will delete the thread and ban me) So read this if its interesting to you. I CANT express my opinions any more the way I want to freely... ATS is changing....(but that's my opinion)

Because many threads that are against "cultural normal" responses are not acceptable to print. For an example: the little 8 year old girl that was murdered on her wedding night? I wanted to say "maybe the arsehole should have pleasured himself with one of his goats after molesting the child instead of murdering her....It might be racist to say that some middle eastern people raise goats.... But I did not want to post that... It was my "opinion:"

Therefore the mods restrict what can be said, but they do not restrict you for what you think (yet) So I post stories... how I feel about the stories are personal to me. Remember "they CAN"T hang you for what you don't say"

The readers can decide and post thier thoughts on stories.

So, you won't post it to that thread but you post it to this one?

Ooook.

Anyway, yeah, you *should* give your opinion and some commentary about your OP to help facilitate discussion, as per the ATS T&C on starting new threads.

That said, if you can't give said opinions or commentary without violating T&C, then there is a problem.

If that doesn't look suspicious...

He may not be guilty of the original thing that he was stopped for, but you're still jumping to conclusions with the innocent thing. On the surface, yeah ... a cop beating someone for nothing, that is bad. But you really have no idea what transpired here; neither do I. Making assumptions about what this guy did or did not do is both foolish and shortsighted.

Get the facts, develop an informed opinion on the matter. Dont just automatically jump on the side against the cop, otherwise you're really no better than the people you complain about.
