Tidal energy potential in Aleutians blows expectations out of water
May 5, 2013

"If somebody could figure out how to get high-voltage HVDC cable weight out in the Aleutians, we could power the whole country with tidal energy," said Bruce Wright, the senior scientist for the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association.

"Eventually, if we can do this project correctly and we can advance this technology, we could put these things throughout the Aleutians, hook them up to high voltage DC current line, and I think the energy potential ... is incredible."

Why bother with the cables if it producing that much energy send the energy through the Ionisphere. A proved and tested method of transferring energy..

They've talked about this for years. They've also talked about a tunnel under the Bearing Strait to connect Russia to Alaska.

Both projects would require MASSIVE investment, and the return on these investments would take quite a while. It can be done, but with other cheaper ways in place producing energy -- why spend the money?

It's certainly cleaner than coal or natural gas...it also is probably less damaging to an ecosystem than a hydro dam. Like I said though, the initial investment is just to high.
