well i am back from ze pub, in the still sunny dudley postal code and i feel jolly sorry for people blighting their day with the same old fear gumph and division shizzle. with incomers, adjustment takes time, some times a lot of time (and a lot of minorities live together as the locals/ex-locals just never wanted to accept them either)..i know loads of stories of different colours and creeds living side by side and building their communities..pinke aint american.. communist east germany and the modern uk are worlds apart.. and i'm a six foot-two skinheaded phobaphobic tree-hugging meat-dodging hippy, but folk still sometimes think i'm a scary football hooligan, like i can help male pattern baldness

How can anyone possibly be upset about non-whites moving into the British empire and bringing their culture with them? The British have been doing that for 500 years!

Anyhow, it's a bit rich having an American giving it out about the UK's cultural imperialism. At least the British left useful things behind like railways and education systems, rather than McDonalds restaurants next to the Great Pyramids and a money stream flowing back uphill.

What two different issues? Different sides of the same coin maybe.

When you try to run a worldwide empire for 500 years you can't expect the people you've colonized won't try to move to the motherland. Everyone is so upset that non-whites are bringing their culture with them when they move to London, but it's totally fine that they play cricket in freaking India.

GB will have to understand that subjugated peoples won't stay that way forever unless you completely wipe them out like the US did to Native Americans and Hawaiians. We dropped cultural bombs on the people we colonized, and they are now in the process of dying out.

Occupy the Indigenous government first, move troops in, then develop tourism industry on all the sacred land you can get your hands on. It's ok if you have to make new laws along the way, just as long as the land snatching is made legal eventually.

Jeeze do we have to colonize everything around here?

I'm no more native than anyone else is. But it doesn't take long living in Hawaii to see the injustices committed on these people by colonialism.

Yeah they sure as hell did eat Cook, I've touched the pot he was boiled in. But not before he and his men gave half the island gonorrhea.

With compassion comes equity, and it isn't fair that white Anglo-Saxons have had the monopoly on colonization forever.

Sure why not? If they can afford it. I can barely feed my family and pay rent here and I'm not even Hawaiian. I'm a white middle class American male with every advantage I could hope for and because of unscrupulous real estate development and ever expanding militarization here it's even getting to rich for my blood. Their original plan was to make it too expensive for Hawaiians to live here (which they did), but it's getting to the point where us settlers can't even afford it any more.

So good luck to anyone else who can make ends meet here. I say get it while it's hot because in 50 years there will be no more Hawaii. This colony is not sustainable. When the price of diesel doubles and it gets too expensive for the tanker ships to bring food to the islands this place will turn into Roanoke. A ghost town.

I did find it interesting that 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants (you know the ones who speak in our regional accents and were brought up here) sort of felt the way the "white" population did about immigrants.

Can't say I live in an area of Britain where there's any racial issues but I do sense a growing dislike for the need to be politically correct towards those of with hardline Islamic views and immigrants who refuse to learn English. We allow our women to be independent, let our people to drink alcohol and expect everyone to speak the language we gave to the whole world so you can communicate with us

From what I can gather the original Caribbean and Indian immigrants and even our closest of neighbours the Irish were treated with suspicion initially when they arrived here but things settled down eventually.

What bloody history book where you reading? 500 years ago, England spoke English. Brythonic languages, as spoke by the Cornish or Welsh today, were driven Westwards by the Anglo-Saxon takeover (not invasion) in the 7th century. By the 11th century, Old English was the norm when the Normans arrived, who then added French words into our lexicon, which led the emergence of "English" as we see it today around the 13/14th century.

Oh, by the way, the Scots went to War with England more than the other way around as they were allied with France and regularly tried to stir up trouble in the North to distract us from their French masters.

As for the OP - well, can you blame them? I left the "inner city" for the country several years ago because, quite frankly, with all the various nationalities the local schools were just unable to cope, what with having to provide for the immigrants. As a result, all the schools where I lived were substandard. Not to mention more than one was totally overwhelmed with a certain religious group that I did not want my daughter exposed to that kind of misogyny and warped thinking..

Call it racist if you want, I don't care and you'd be wrong anyway, but I as an Englishman do not want my children being brought up under the influence of another culture.

I was not mixing the two but they are intrinsically the same (only the motive for staying is different). All are strangers in a strange land...

There are pretty much and international accepted standards that define asylum seekers. I don't see how the provenience of the person is of special relevance. Torture, political persecution etc...

We are bound by law to harbour asylum seekers and refugess that travel accross 2-3 continents, passing through dozens of suitable safe havens simply because the UK is a soft touch.

Well the laws of the UK are indeed a problem, they should be similar (or work with the other nations to harmonize them). The other problem is the same the US has, the propaganda level is so strong that people do really think that there the streets are paved in gold (not so much now as the information started to become less processed and more distributed) but still relevant. The land of the free and all that shenanigans, they are powerful attractors, for those that do not know best.

immigration per se is a terrible thing for any country

It depends on many factors but it can be argued that uncontrolled immigration is not something any nation seeks, for instance Canada is extremely smart about it (but also brutal on the deportations).

The same factor I mentioned above about the attractors has been exploited recently by Germany and other northen European nations to attract skilled workers from crisis nations from the South. In double dip, they benefit economically (short term) and then from brain drain (long term) and damage the return of stability to those nations...

Many people in Ireland and the other PIGS started to emigrate...

It's also happening in Norway and Sweden and many other Euro countries. These immigrants bring with a slew of problems. It's not the kind of immigration where they immigrate to your country to become one of you. It's more like they immigrate into your country to have YOU become one of THEM.

Many do not care for the countries laws, people or the culture. In fact, Islam (to name the major culprit) has a tendency to act maliciously against the indigenous populace of the area they migrate to.

Go to youtube and do a search for "Malmo Muslims" to get a good idea of what massive Islamic immigration does to an area. Even my mothers ex-boyfriend of a decade couldn't stand Islamic immigrants and he WAS a (very slack) Muslim from Palestine.

People can claim otherwise, or claim I'm a racist (even though this is about religion), but I doubt many have been to the places I have been or experienced first hand what I have experienced. So I believe they're talking from a point of view they have absolutely no knowledge in except what they read/hear from others.
