Just over two years after contracting a rare skin tissue disease, Slayer guitarist and songwriter Jeff Hanneman died on Thursday from liver failure at Hemet Valley Medical Center, near his home in Southern California's Inland Empire area.

A sad day for Slayer fans worldwide.

Jeff Hanneman, guitarist in one of the world's most successful metal bands, has passed away from liver failure at 49 years old.

May he rest in peace.

Slayer were pioneers, and they stayed true to their unique sound. Hanneman was a founding member of the group in California, 1981. The band released 11 albums from 1983 to 2009, all to critical acclaim. Jeff will be sadly missed by bandmates, fans of the band, and metalheads the world over.
