Does a shard of glass jump back up at speed to make the cut?

Seems plausible enough.

Your situation is what most people would describe as luck.

If you do not believe in luck then let's just change the perspective on the bottle landing upright thrown from a distance.

The inprobability of the bottle landing upright would be very large, the probability of the bottle landing up right is very small. The possible outcomes for the bottle landing would be on it's side, on it's bottom and on it's very top, on the ground, ricocheting off the wall or landing on the wall. The probability of the bottle landing upright would be smaller than it landing on it's side or on the ground and also ricocheting off the wall.

So your bottle situation is just a probability that can be recreated.

But I'd rather call it a lucky toss.
