The primary duty of the president of the United States is to
make sure that all U.S. laws are carried out and that the federal
government is run effectively. Although the president may not
introduce new legislation - that's the duty of Congress - he
does wield veto power over all bills that are approved by the
legislature. In addition, the president has the weighty role of
commander in chief of the armed forces.

As the nation's chief executive, the president oversees foreign

Representatives at the time the override vote is taken.

Foreign Policy
The president is authorized to make treaties with foreign
nations, pending Senate approval. He also appoints
ambassadors to other countries and to the United Nations,
though those, too, require Senate confirmation. The president
and his administration represent the interests of the United
States abroad; as such, he often meets with, entertains and
develops a relationship with other heads of state.

Commander in Chief
The president serves as commander in chief of the nation's
armed forces. In addition to his powers over the military, the
president has the authority to deploy those forces at his
discretion, with congressional approval. He may also ask
Congress to declare war on other nations.

Salary and Perks
Being president is not without its perks. The president earns
$400,000 per year and is, traditionally, the highest-paid federal
official. He has use of two presidential residences, the White
House and Camp David in Maryland; has both an airplane, Air
Force One, and helicopter, Marine One, at his disposal; and has
a legion of staff members including a personal chef to assist
him in both his professional duties and private life.

Risky Job
The job is certainly not without its risks. The president and his
family are given round-the-clock protection by the Secret
Service. Abraham Lincoln was the first U.S. president to be
assassinated; James Garfield, William McKinley and John F.
Kennedy were also assassinated while in office. Andrew
Jackson, Harry Truman, Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan all
survived assassination attempts. Presidents continue to
receive Secret Service protection after they retire from office.

I've noticed this disturbing overreaching of power myself.
I'm not sure what to make of it. One thing's for sure, I'm a little scared.

The President thinks he is some sort of King. And the liberals would just love to give him a crown to make it official. That is literally where this country is going.

Can we as a nation endure three more years and eight months? Though his atrocities to our freedoms are different, they are by far the most destructive to America's way of life and continued greatness of ANY president, I believe ever.

As an Australian looking from the outside in when i see Obama on TV talking he reminds me of a salemans man surrounded by lots of fake props, as if hes an actor on a stage reading from a script which is out of camera view because its really a teleprompter, and hes staring at the audiemce and is trying to juggle his stage moods; between serious and cool, but the more he tries the more he overacts, and reveals that its a bad actor, in a bad commerical, a C grade attempt of a big brother to tell the children that he is the star of the movie.

As an American, I see the same thing. He's not "being" president - he's "acting presidential". It's visible in the way he takes advantage of the office to host upper-class parties, the way he interacts with other heads of state and the way that he *ahem* disinforms *ahem* the public. He's doing what he things he's supposed to do, not doing what he knows is right. (Which, I admits, assumes he has a belief of "right and wrong"...but that's a whole 'nother discussion)

First i would like to point out it was the prior administration that gave the added executive powers to the president, i remember when it haapen the 1 st year of his 2nd term. When that administration enacted this illegal gift to the president i dont think they realized republicans could loose their status.
There is great injustice occuring directly at us the people.
We need to stop the slaughtering of america. Sitting in these forums talking about it is showing our weakness. There are enough people on this site alone to make a impact for all americans. But we need to get away from our computers and do something about it. We have the right to challenge THE MAN(s). We cant make sleepers wake unless they want to confront a dire situation. Most people have coward down and accept their shtz. A small group confronting the gov can make things change.
We know they conceal the true level of american economy, being upwards to 20 trillion in debt. We know our gov has pissed of the world economies to the point brittian has left our currency and know Australia has left us. China wants theur money back so obama gives dhs the right to compensates our everthing. Really? Did we make this mess? Will we keep letting them drain us to oblivion?
We need to work together and face off with THEM.
