... I've just finished this thing. I've never been so mind *&#$ from a game.. ugh stupidly Brilliant. I have no words.

I don't mean the physics, graphics, music, or the usual things that games rely on. I mean the story.

At first I felt it was just cashing in on the bioshock theme. And it does that. Until I started to get into the story, I felt it was a little tedious. I loaded up the trainer just to get past things as I tend to do.

But when it gets going, I found myself having to follow closely the script. It just threw me for a six. And the end.

I feel like I've just watched the matrix for the first time.

*this* game, in my opinion, is brilliant.

had to post about it, having seen it mentioned once here previously. hehe. if you're not a gamer or don't appreciate the tangent this thing takes you around, you won't understand.

ahhh now back to boring reality.

My son recently picked this up and he says it's sick.

I miss gaming and I wish I can go back to it, because this game as well as a few more out there, looks like it's right up my alley!

Thanks for sharing this - that clip makes me want to go out and get a console and a stockpile of games even more now!

A console!!! *gasp*

You have a perfectly good PC right there!!

Nah hehe, I know I had to pull the quality back to play it on my turtle. And it cooked my gpu even when paused, literally up to just under 90c until I realised and had to crank up the fan. oO

But without spoilers, all I can say is the story is very deep. I really did not expect it. And now I have to play it knowing what the deal is, to pick up on the bits I know I missed. First game in a very long time that has left me sitting here with my brain too fuzzy to think properly.

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!

I was so utterly disappointed with bioshock 2 that i was truly worried about this one.

I can assume they did not use the same "internet connection required to play" anti-piracy thing that was totally idiotic for a single player game.

Might have to give it a look after all! the first one blew my mind in so many ways i hope this one does the same thing thanks for sharing.

Bioshock 2 was absolutely terrible. Giant leap backwards from the first game.

I have my doubts about the new one. The tv commercial makes it seem a little ridiculous.

Agreed...
BS 2 was a Reboot of the First game
& quickly became tedious & repetitive
so much so I had to stop playing it ....

& Yes this does look like it borders on the Ridiculous...
So they ditched the big daddy's for a new big Frankenstein monster

So what is it ?
go ahead a spoil it for me...
what in the story is gonna flip my lid ....
Let me guess dood can see dead people ...?
the cloud city is actually heaven & doods already dead...?

Finished this game yesterday after half the day playing it, though its a short game it's brilliant at that, like you said. The story is really something and though I can think of a few things that does not makes sense or fit into the overall scope what with the ending being like it is, its still one of the best games out there. And yes it did a mind numbing on me as well.

Not because I have not heard the story before, more so because I did not expect it because of its scenery and characters and even its graphics it has a cartoony Disney sureal feel to it almost, not to say that its not a good thing. But because the very same theme has been running for a long time in my life in pretty much everything and I did not really notice it that much till after I beat this dam game. The character models and there expressions are right on the dot, and this is the first game were I actually liked escort missions. In every other game I can think of so far the whole escort mission or babysitting as I call it is just a pain in the ass, most games that try to do that do not pull it off, usually they run right in front of you or just get in the way, or there AI is so stupid that after a few minutes your swearing at the TV, and after a hour you want to shoot her, and after a few hours you want to shoot yourself just to get the thing over and done with. But they really added life into Elisabeth and actually made her not only useful, but the game would be bland and lame without her, in fact you plain forget that she is supposed to be a supporting character, Elisabeth is definitely one of the most memorable characters in any game, and really to not spoil the story but the game really is about her ultimately.

But the ending...um ya, I did not expect it even though it is a reoccurring thing, in fact the previous game I played Dragons Dogma and many other things before it had the same sort of ending theme to it. In all, this is the best Bioshock out there, and one of the best games out there, and if your not playing it, you should get your ass off ATS and do so now, the game does come of a bit ridiculous at first but you soon forget all that as the world is really immersive, there literally is a story written on every wall you pass and every character you meet, with so many details that its hard to play the game and not just stop and look at the things around you, and people would have to play the game a few times and really watch the things the characters say, or the things you see and find for the story to really click in. In fact I will have to replay this game again just to answer some things about the story that elude me.

The game is beautiful and brilliant like the op said. But the only thing I can say about the ending is...Quantum entangling can sometimes be a bitch, but cutting those entanglement strings is the real trial and the real hell. What was that quote at the beginning of the game...

"The mind of the subject will desperately struggle to create memories where none exist..." -Barriers to Trans-Dimensional Travel, R. Lutece, 1889

I read your review, I take it it's yours, agree with it. But for the story and ending makes no sense part.

The story does make sense, I cant think of them now but there are a few things that do not make sense, but most eventually come to light with the ending. No spoilers but you remember when you went to the hall of heroes and you find out that according to Slate everything about comstock the prophet is fake, his whole history the deeds he claims to have done and he claims comstock was never was there, but ah he remembers Booker and Booker was there and the turning point in all those battles. And not to spoil things but I don't think many people are reading this anyways, but you know the ending so you know that he Comstock never actually lied about anything, and you know why. Ultimately the things he says and even the crazy far out things are true, even the whole part about he was visited by an angel who told him and set him on his path. That part is true to, even songbird though it has a minor role to play makes sense in a way, and you can guess who the angel is. Really ultimately there may have been other choices, but the way it turned out is the only way it could have turned out given everything. Elizabeth is right a million million worlds and possibilities, but they all lead to the same ending.

Were else would it all lead?

So far I think it's just decent. I just got to the part where you go to that bar, and there's a guy and a woman, with the latter handing you some kinda power.

Hopefully I'll like it the more I play.

what should I do/set up/try?

Use your Vigors to set perimeter traps , use Possession on the Patriots and use Elizabeth to open tears to boxes of health .
You're close to the big reveal so enjoy

Ya now a days most games have skipped over the whole story driven games for the multilayer aspect of it because of the replay value, and because those type of games sell. I know I have not played any of the call of duty's on story mode and pretty much all other first person shooters out there I only buy because of the online part of it I ussually don't even touch the story mode on most of them. But the game was short, I beat it in a few hours, will probably play it again some day but not anytime soon. If it had a online aspect to it I think it would rock even more. But I think most such games usually focus on one or the other, sometimes the whole story mode is just tacked to the game as an afterthought to the online aspect of it.

But ya its the fate of all such games they all usually end up in the closet, because lets face it even if its the best game out there and has the best gameplay and the best story you ever seen eventually it just ends up in the closet, and most people now a days buy these sort of games because they just want to shoot eachoter mindlessly online with there buddies...I think games like Bioshock even though awesome will be made less and less in the coming years as developers focus on the things that sell, and lets face it people like shooters over story driven games now a days. And really it would be more cost effective and easier to focus on one aspect of it then try to do both.

Oh ya your close to the end, do what gortex did, I got killed a few times on that part because they kept overwhelming me and destroying the core. I played it on hard so I could not kill them all fast enough, before they all went crazy on the core. Like gortex said set up vigor traps, the lightning ones work well especially on the patriots, and if you hit them with the fire one while there zapped your bound to get a Boom, just go for them full force because most of them will be focusing on the core and wont even bother shooting at you, you got to get the patriots and the rpg guys as they will be going for the core and can do a lot of damage, they wont even aim for you unless you run right in front of them and the other guys are easy to pick off with the sniper especially if you set up traps and there caught in it.

Other then that when I played it, the key was in using songbird at the right time and making sure you get those zeppelins when they come up, I think if you just focus on the guys going for the core they just keep coming and coming and eventually they will overwhelm you, once you get rid of all the zeppelins its pretty much a done deal. And then the ending follows.
