I remember this well, i also remember dee snider testifying and making
them all look like fools, they thought he wasn't so smart in the head im
sure but many of these fellas are not only artists but very good business
men as well.

In relation to this topic i often wonder how many Einsteins the world
has lost because they were taught science was a lie, i wonder how
many Mozart or Beethoven we lost because they were told music
is from the devil etc. etc. etc.

We need to teach morality with honesty and truth not morality based
on a deity who condones horrid things, we need justice and not
convoluted random "interpreted" ideals of morality that are flawed
by the very thing that supposedly makes them good, saying its right
just because god told you it was is the same as saying you hear voices
telling you to kill and you listened but cannot fathom why anyone would
find that crazy.

You are absolutely right.I've already posted similar sentiments to a illuminati/satanism in music thread n that was before I read the OP's thread.

Am showing my age but being born in 1972 I was bang on the right age when the 80's excess kicked off.I loved everything about it,the loud, heavy guitar, thumping bass, wailing vocals, massive hair, pyrotechnics and way over the top gear they wore and especially their overt anti establishment,f**k you attitude.

At first the hype and nonsense was almost as important as the music. My parents n teachers just didn't approve, the neighbours went ballistic when I cranked up the stereo to 10.Wearing leather n denim with band patches stitched all over them got up their noses too n that's all you could hope for at 14 or 15.

And of course some of it was incredible music of the highest quality.AC/DC,Ozzy Osbourne,Maiden,Metallica for example have absolutely stood the test of time although theirs many that didn't have much beyond their image.Anyone remember Poison or GWAR,for example.lol.

Looking back it's almost easy to believe the whole anti-rock,right wing christian, pmrc backlash was part of the marketing strategy.I mean, stories of righteous christians throwing Maiden and Ozzy lp's on the fire then running in panic from the fumes scared that inhaling it will allow satan to possess them.Could there have been a more ideal 'enemy' that laid themselves wide open to ridicule.

Yet the darkside has been a part of music probably for as long as music's existed.

Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads.I can't remember offhand which of the classical composers it was but one was accused of being in league with the devil for introducing imperfect endings.
Music has a power and direct effect on us that seems magical. You want to write a sad song then write in the key of D minor n you can't go wrong !!!

When you think about it music was an integeral part of shamanistic ritual and ceremony, voodoo rituals, even the Romans and the British Army marched into battle to the sound of horns or bagpipes.

So you have to ask yourself is this recent corelation between music and claims of satanic influence something significant or the music industry dusting off and resurrecting an old but proven marketing technique for the umpteenth time.

Guess what,it's working a treat all over again.lol.

I recall going to many services on a Saturday night to listen to tracks played backwards....

You know, Satan is my Master, Have Sex, Have Sex, Smoke Weed (listen closely now) Jesus hates you, Satan Rules, Animal Sex, Animal Sex, dirty picture, smoke dope....etc. Made me run right out at 14 and find the local dealer, by some weed & some porn, eat some munchies, then go have sex with a hooker.....

They could never explain why Amy Grant music told us to "Drink More Ovaltine" though...hmmmmm?

I never would have imagined that Satan would be putting in "evil" lyrics. Thank the maker we had the good folks who traveled to churches to tell us rock was evil and Phil Collins was one of his warriors! I don't know what I would have done had it not purchased the informatives groups book on the Evil's of Rock....

I remember the mid 90's when my parents didn't want me listening to Marilyn Manson! Yep, they thought he was satan himself! Many parents felt the same way. They went on talk shows and it was quite a hot topic then.

I do have to say, I took quite enjoyment watching the PMRC meetings on VH1 years ago, and watching John Denver really give it to Tipper over "Rocky Mountain High" being banned from the radio. The look on her face. I think she was hoping that John Denver would be her golden boy to help support what they were doing.

OMG- Some of my friends parents actually thought I was running a "Cult" and confronted me (I was the "Dungeon master")- Even the freaking schools banned D&D books (this was in like 1991 or thereabouts.)

Remember the old ABC after school special put out a show about D&D with Tom Hanks in it? They were trying to use it as a cautionary tale lol The end of this clip is pretty silly.

Alice Cooper's a Christian and an AA member, but there are satanists of all different flavors even animal and human sacrifice groups it does happen don't kid yourself, and then there's just the run of the mill youth suffering from a healthy dose of rebellious teenage angst who think it's cool to have a copy of the Satanic Bible and read the writings of Allistair Crowley or whathaveyou, but even they are very dark and gothlike, hard hearted and arrogant, but at least they're not killing animals or people. all flavors and it's still going on.

I've even noticed that a few ATS members are true blue satanists, but they hide it or try to.

I think it's just sad..

But funny too in a sad sort of way it's hard to explain.. the poor bastards I almost feel sorry for them, and if it would help I would, but it doesn't so I don't bother. What can you do, with them it's like talking to a rock, but sometimes they crack and come out of the darkness and back into the light, I have seen that happen so it's not entirely fair to just write them all off, except maybe the Queen of England, I think she's a pretty hard case.

It was just the other day that I was chatting about this via U2U... this topic is like #ing bamboo, no matter how hard you try to root it out it just keeps springing back up everywhere.

I'm sure some of us remember the zealot groups that would travel around to different high schools putting on "presentations" (I am being very generous here, another "p" word comes to mind) on various beliefs, one of the most popular being that rock music was an instrument of the devil.

These were not low-budget affairs by any stretch of the imagination - they had huge projection screens, special effects, outstanding sound production ... I mean honestly, I was impressed!

I'm trying to think of another venue that uses the same techniques to woo the masses ... give me a bit it will come to me... *wink wink nod nod*

Pot, meet kettle?

The 80's... Wish we could go back to those times...
I remember when my dad took all of my concert shirts and burned them. Truly a sad day in my life.

Why do you single out the 80s?

Evidence for this fear exists throughout the history of mankind. In fact, nearly all of our religious institutions (past and present) are largely based upon this notion.

The only thing that has changed is the internet.

He singles out the 80s, because 1) He lived through that period, so has direct experience of it, and 2) In the 80s, there was a SURGE and PANIC (as he mentioned) of fear of SATAN during that time period. All over the news you heard about satanic music, satanic cults, etc. TONS of people were making money off of selling fear, specifically fear of satanic worshippers, stuff like that

Yup I agree, scared people with tiny minds or people with an agenda to discredit those artists.
I wonder what percentage of ATS users are mentally ill sometimes and It scares me that people even entertain these ideas but hey Iam on ATS

I think he went for the 80's because many religious groups spoke out about anything new being Satans work.
Ever play D&D? do you remember all the church groups saying If you play Dungeons and Dragons you are Satan worshipping.

If you think its bad here, you should browse "GLP" website. That'll give you a taste of truly lost individuals. They actually have verified schizophrenics on that site, and allow them to post freely, which is quite sad.

I don't find it that bad here.

While we shouldn't discount the possibility that the upsurge of such threads on ATS is the work of a PR flack hired by the record industry—

Really? Back with the "The Music Industry is infiltrating ATS to garner record sales among conspiracy theorists" conspiracy theory?

they all seem to emanate from a single poster—

Yet tons of people support the threads. And it's not a single poster. I've seen quite a few people aside from myself posting these threads. Do a search for "Illuminati Music Industry" on here.

it's also worth noting that this kind of tripe plays best in a certain demographic: poor, white, right-wing fundamentalist Christians..

Really? Pretty sure this is a young Black male:

Hmm, this pastor looks Black to me:

And what's this? A Black woman?

Hmmmm. So much for "Poor, White, Right-wing Fundamentalist Christian." Looks like people of all walks of life are opposing this.

Thanks for mentioning that film. You've just given me the best Sunday afternoon in ages.

And to keep it on topic I will say, performance is called such for that reason, it's an all act as the OP stated. These interviews are just the artists explaining the process of getting into character, it's a shame it's been misconstrued.

my point is that it's immature to be afraid of satan. or the devil. We giggle at animals who are scared of vacuums right?

people do dumb things when they're afraid of something they don't comprehend. Like burning witches - or the more recent, heinous crimes being committed in Africa against "magicians" - it's just primeval. Human beings an inch away from flinging poo. Americans - in our Puritan / "Don't Tread On ME!!!" mentality aren't faring too much better these days. Aka - Gimme mine / Don't take mine.

It's time we evolved.

We all know EVERYTHING BAD THAT IS HAPPENING ON PLANET EARTH IS A MAN MADE AFFLICTION. Surprise - the devil is you and me. God is you and me. We are the cosmic scene. The battle ground is inside our skulls and beating in our chests. It's up to us. Every single bit of it. We have all good and all evil inside - time to turn the telescope into the microscope and understand that our answers are not in the 'sweet by-and-by' but here and now inside each of us.

Beyonce isn't making your kids evil. Ozzy isn't the devil.

On some days the motto of this site seems to be "promote ignorance." We should not argue with those who prefer mysticism and superstition over science and reality, except to point out the cons they believe in.

I propose we only start sharing RENAISSANCE THOUGHTS here.

If you have something to share - enlighten us.

If you have something to share that is "fearful" - then don't share it. It's BS. It stagnates and doesn't inspire ANY solutions.

Take a look at all the banner ads on this site. Or on Alex Jones site, or on Before Its News - or ANY OF THE ALTERNATIVE NEWS SITES.

They ALL (including this website, which is one of the worst) make their advertising dollars off fear mongering. All of them. Hoard this, hoard that, change your money to silver, etc... all designed to prey upon you AND YOUR FEAR.

follow the money & ditch the fear.

Oh this again.

This is just a tool/marketing for artists to appear more interesting than they truly are.
I took a class on this a long time ago. Basically one pushes social norms in order to get
attention.

One of my favorite indie musicians from the 80's claimed she was a witch, that
she cast spells, was a cousin of Aliester Crowley. She also claimed she was the reincarnation
of Morgan Le Fay. All of that was marketing. In her spare time she went by her real name,
attended law school, and was a local city council member.

I have done similar things myself in music.
