A neutron star is spotted incoming towards our solar system, and there is a mere 75 years to evacuate. NG takes us on an amazing journey, exploring how it might be possible.

Popcorn doable for this one. It's a bit long, but a worthwhile watch when you get sick of guns, government, and bad ufo youtube videos.

Pretty good graphics in some spots, like when the neutron star rips apart Saturn and sucks the remaining bits and pieces into its incredible gravity field. And earth is next.

I here you on that.

But I'm sticking it out here with my family. No need to evacuate.
Why prolong it?
I remember that scene in the movie Deep Impact were the daughter was hugging here dad as a giant tsunami washed over them.
That's how I would want it to end.

And heeeer we go again...
MONEY, POWER, Jealosy....

Thats what gonna get us all killed...

If this scenario would become real..
I would sign up myself and my family
for lifetime labour. To build the ship/ships.
With the ONLY payment be a Ticket and
food and shelter during the build...

Great find.

I've always been fascinated with humans eventually colonizing somewhere else and this video I bet shows how it may come about. I'd prefer it to be a non-disaster scenario but I always like to hear about how others think it will happen.

I haven't watched it yet but bookmarked it for later.

I am living tin can......... Maybe David Bowie wants to but I don't. Space colonization would be for me similar to a prison. I love nature, trees, critters and a twisty road to ride my motorcycle on, a river to kayak on and thermals to fly in. Adapting to life in a tin can would not be worth the effort for me.

Survival for the sake of survival alone, meh, not for me!

There was not one mentioned of George Pal's film 'When Worlds Collide'. No one is making a run for the shuttle rockets preparing to leave Earth for the orbiting space ark. If Earth was threatened with destruction, the law of the jungle would take effect to be one of the lucky survivors aboard the escaping space arks.

Was very interesting and thought provoking.

Right now we are all "eggs in a basket".

Now they forgot the best part of the movie. They really did. The ending! It's too ..uplifting and positive. This isn't a disaster movie with happy ending's after all, it's National Geographic presenting!

So they either need to re-write the ending to show the tiniest little critter meeting the new explorers for the first time...like Smallpox did across 2 continents here on Earth at one time ... Or... I'll bet there are more Neutron stars roaming around. They could have ended the last shot with the next one...many decades distant..on a course to meet the New Earth.

Running doesn't solve anything but to insure we die tired and far from home. Perhaps finding solutions beyond simply "Be elsewhere" would be a noble pursuit for science? After all...How many fields can literally be said to find ways to save the world? This would be for the 1:Million chance we have a visitor some day.

I got it! ISON stands for Incoming Stellar Object Nibiru!

Going to watch it now, sounds entertaining.

It's a suggestion as to what we might do - but otherwise it's as as real as dozens of sci-fi books

Just because someone plans a fire escape route doesn't mean there will be a fire.

They forgot how to decelerate the craft once they got there.

They also forgot how to protect the craft from interstellar bombardment, a tiny rock hitting the craft at those speeds would be catastrophic, ensuring that none survive the journey. They would need point defence lasers of immense strength and precision as well as range and a radar system to match it, with a 360 degree coverage running at all times on that craft.

But overall the entire concept is kinda stupid, its like reacting when it is ALREADY too late, we need to start to plan for this today, so that we have multiple starship foundries running IN ORBIT if such a scenario or similar would happen, and we need to invest far more money/resources into propulsion systems and space tech today if we want to survive. Such a scenario can happen at any time, we are foolish to spend money on the war on drugs and building banana covers in multiple colours instead of diverting the resources into this...

In the book Battlestar Galactica: Galactica Discovers Earth. (Based on the pilot episode for Galactica:1980.) Dr. Zee discovers increased neutrino activity than normal in the Barnard Star system. His conclusion is that the neutrino activity is caused by the power output of the Cylon Starfleet waiting for the Galactica to lead them to Earth. Survivors from Earth arrive at their new home to be killed by the Cylons.
