How to Classify Hagel

Former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel has been tapped to be Obama's next Sec. of Defense. He has taken heat from both isles for his positions, including not hawkish enough towards Iran, and not friendly enough towards Israel. He seems like a semi-libertarian fellow, and yet he supported the PATRIOT Act. What is a guy to think?

Way too many people voted for the patriot act due to fear-mongering, etc.

Did he vote to extend or reauthorize it?

Everyone makes mistakes, but did they learn from them...that's my question.

As for the foreign policies you highlight...

He wasn't in the Senate when it came up for re-authorization. As for everything else, I agree - he seems spot-on.

Dude, he's been tapped by the Administration. That, alone, should speak volumes to you!

Yep Iran endorsed him, and Obama endorsed him

hes not right for America

He seems to lean anti-war as far as the establishment goes. He's expressed annoyance at the massive influence of the Israeli lobby on our politics.

I do think he's a shape-shifter from Xorkon though, so that basically cancels it out.
