Hair-raising ruling: Denmark says that both men and women's haircuts must cost the SAME PRICE

Danish Board of Equal Treatment ruled price differences between haircuts were illegal.

Denmark, which like its Nordic neighbours prides itself on promoting equal treatment for men and women, has taken gender equality all the way to the beauty salon.

A ruling last month by Denmark's Board of Equal Treatment effectively stated that price differences between men's and women's haircuts were illegal.

Denmark ranked seventh out of 135 countries in the World Economic Forum's global gender gap index which benchmarks national gender gaps on economic, political, education and health criteria.

I suspect that what this really means is that men's haircuts will rocket up in price rather than women's haircuts coming down.

what utter drivel - i can go into my regular barber - and he knows exactly what i want - as soon as he sees me - and only asks : "the usual , ape ? "to confirm - and < 5 minuites later i am back on the street with a haircut that will satisfy any RSM

can ` the average woman ` do this ??????????

if denmark wants equality - barbers / hairstylists should charge a per minuite fee with extras for ` other stuff ` - just like most other proffesions do

So my haircut takes about 15 minutes and costs £7-8. How is this supposed to be equal to women spending HOURS (obviously not all of them) at the hair dressers. I know of women here that easily spend £80+ in a trip to the hairdresser.

Surely the time/effort should be the primary factor when it comes to deciding on prices?

Edit: Imagine all the men suddenly receiving £80 worth of hairdresser treatment or all women receiving £7 haircuts. Comical xD

This is exactly the reason the UK needs to get out of Europe. Before we know it the Autocrats in Brussels will be making it law for all cuts to be charged the same, just like they did with Car insurance. Despite the fact that women are statistically involved in fewer serious accident. Just pure ludicrissness.

Wow, what a weird ass ruling! I recently got my hair cut ($20) it consisted of shaving it with an electric shaver (high and tight as its called). Take a whole 10mins at the most. A woman will take an hour or more, be much more intricate.. I think it's entirely reasonable for it to cost more, it actually involves work.

Women's haircuts cost more because they take longer.

No, the equality thing doesnt have to stop. We're different but equal, and the lesser paid woman should not be paying 4 times more for a hair cut, have to buy outrageously priced womens products, etc etc etc, its outrageous.
If they can't make money by lowering womens, they can meet in the middle then.

They don't have to buy outrageously expensive anything... Do men have to buy outrageously expensive cars and suits? If you can't afford it, don't buy it.

however, seeing as more and more young men seem to have noncy layered barnets that require one to apply a can of mousse and then stand sideways on in a wind-tunnel, shouldnt they pay the same as a woman for their cut?

otherwise just buy some clippers or go to a gents barber? - i trust barbers still exist, not having needed one for about 20 years
