Really?? All "not retroactive" is is sliding the knife in slowly.

What you call paranoia, we see as a well thought out plan that was just waiting for a Conn. event. If Obama wanted to save children he'd EO a ban on partial birth abortions. That would save thousands a year.

What this is is a line drawn in the sand. You will not be allowed to cross it. It is call integrity.

Don't like it? Stay away from the line.

Thomas Jefferson said it best.

"Where powers are assumed which have not been delegated, a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy." --Thomas Jefferson: Kentucky Resolutions, 1798.

Many people like to attribute nullification to those who want to bring back slavery (because they heard it on Rachel Maddow or something) but many people do not know that nullification was actually used by the STATES to stop slavery and unjust arrest/conviction by the federal government and their almighty supreme courts.

Well guys, after a lot of thought, Here's the straight dope on this topic. Being from Cache County, here in Utah, This is'nt about caring for our rights. It's the local law enforcement group that's worried about seeing THEIR PERSONAL GUNS confiscated should Obama persues this course and succeed. I know, Two of my Deputy Sheriff cousins of mine told me.

Proud to be a Utahn

It's interesting - Utah may be incredibly conservative, but don't even think about taking our gun rights away. I've heard more than just the sheriffs dept make similar statements. But I'm happy to hear our law enforement make a public statement like this. I hope it continues to catch on.

Fully agree

Well the Sheriffs in UTAH aren't having it, and neither should we

Out of our cold dead hands

Will it really come to this

What I have heard and read is the fact that the largest army in the world is the licensed hunters in just a few of states, and these guys usually need only one shot to make a kill.
I'd hate to see it come to that, but one thing is a certainty, there will be change if the UN treaty and their force comes a knocking.

Our county sheriff in PA( population over 400,000) has gone on the record opposing any new gun legislation.
And why did Homeland security order 1.2 BILLION hollowpoint pistol rounds last summer? They sound awfully paranoid.....,maybe Obama needs to talk to Janet Napolitano's doctor to make sure she's psychologically stable. She's already gone on record of being afraid of returning military veterans. That sounds paranoid as well. Even Obama sounds paranoid and he has access to that big shiny red button.....

It's about time that people are beginning to stand up to this administration! Unfortunately that's what needs to happen when you have "leadership" that runs roughshod over the constitution (or threatened to do so).

As Jesus wasn't mentioned in the post you replied to, I don't see what you're on about.

Americans desperate to hold on to the last "freedom" they have left.

It's not freedom if you need a gun. You'd be better off cleaning up the mess called your economic system. While you all wait for the big bad government to tyrannize you, your economic system has already been doing it for decades. Hard to stop a system with a gun, they are never going to come after you in person.

In my honest opinion, the government will have (and has had) such an uproar about this that they won't be doing anything entirely drastic. The only thing I can see coming out of this is perhaps a stricter policy on the means of obtaining a firearm.

I'm sure that if they enstated an outright ban on assault weapons of any kind, the country will have such a tit-fit Obama is going to be like 'OKAY I'M SORRY! Jeez!' It's a pity we can't be as passionate for other issues that deserve our attention as well.

It sucks being in a state with the highest number of anti American people in the country. I'm speaking of Massachusetts. In our 1 party state Socialism reigns supreme and it will be impossible to unseat it. Are there any jobs to be had in either Texas or Utah? Beware of us if you live anywhere else, as we are hellbent to place Barney eat my Frank back into the political arena. Since he is the person who instigated the present economic collapse you need to be wary.

You are on to something. Lets all take our guns out in public so the sheriffs and everyone else can see how safe and secure we can all be. It's already starting in Utah cause it's so awesome.

I really have a problem with those saying that if large portions of local and federal law-enforcement along with guard and active military don't obey an unconstitutional order that Obama would call in the UN. There is one major sticking point here.

Most of our allies and even rivals like Russia and China don't have the transport capability to massively move troops into the US. Sure, you could use US assets crewed by those who chose to betray the People to move foreign troops from there to here but I really think that would further split traitorous forces.

Canada and Mexico are the only nations that could easily move forces into the US. We kid Canucks a lot but I've never called them stupid or suicidal, and though their military is world class there isn't enough of it. Mexico is a bit more concerning because of the large number of Mexican nationals in this nation particularly in the southwest. In a US Civil War it would be a perfect time to attempt a reconquista, but you really have to think that if all the Mexicans working here would really like to be ruled by the same corrupt government they left to better their lives here, and could a nation as dysfunctional as Mexico really mount a successful military campaign into the US even with a divided US military?

Not what would be nice, but what is practical and possible, that is my opinion. In any moment, under particular conditions. What if that produce rebel, and some kind of civil war? I wouldn't like that, I am more for earlier US politics, before Senior. I was born in this one year... In Yugoslavia, but we were close.

I'm not an advocate of assault weapons or large clips but I say, more power to the Utah sherifs! Good luck.
I seriously doubt it will ever come to weapon confiscation, more like, stop making them available then through attrition, (they get sold and taken off the market, break down, confiscated in a crime, etc.) let them go away that way. Armed government thugs moving throughout the nation gathering guns!? #, I'd die for THAT fight.... and I'm a passivist!

I don't think I have heard anything about gun confiscation. I've heard talk about an assault weapons ban, but that wouldn't be retro-active. The gov't won't be coming around to take your guns, ammo or large capacity mags. If I've missed it somewhere can someone please point me to where they've state that they want to confiscate our guns? It all seem like paranoia to me

Yes...The President issued "executive actions"...which are weaker tea than even executive "orders" and they all centered on enforcing current laws, background checks etc.

He did ask congress to consider an Assualt Weapon's ban similair to the one that Ronald Reagan supported....but honestly...ask congress? The same GOP Congress that refused to pass hurricaine relief for NJ and NYC? The same GOP congress that refused for almost a year to approve medical care for 9-11 first responders? The Gun Lobby is afraid that THEY are going to ban guns? They can't pass the most neutral of bills...you think a gun bill would ever even make it the floor? Let alone get the GOP votes needed to pass? Has anyone been paying any attention lately??

So not sure what the fuss is? Honestly?...I think it affords the far right one more chance to cast Pres. Obama as an enemy of the constitution and an opportunity to once again engage in tyrannical fantasy...to play in an idealogical doll house where America is invaded by Nazi's and the only thing that stops them is skeeter in Alabama with his AK-47.

None of it has any foundation in reality...it is simply the natural climax of the rhetoric to date...

Apocolyptic/paranoid fantasy...it requires no evidence and isn't obligated to acknowledge the facts that exist.

Executive "actions"...not "orders"...and speaking to enforcing current law...oh yah and to gather data on mass shootings and gun violence...Everybody freak out! The gov is doing a STUDY.

ASKING CONGRESS to "discuss" and assualt weapons ban...which we have had before without tyranny....Reagan supported it...and who here thinks that CONGRESS....CONGRESS!!...will even discuss an assault weapons ban????

Kinda silly...There is no substance to the crazy talk...different flavors of Alex Jones...

GEEZ Folks...even when the President announced his weak tea gun policy "suggestions" on enforcing current laws, he felt obligated to state this!

Now, let me be absolutely clear: Like most Americans, I believe the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. I respect our strong tradition of gun ownership and the rights of hunters and sportsmen. There are millions of responsible, law-abiding gun owners in America who cherish their right to bear arms for hunting or sport or protection or collection.

But what the hell, carry on, if the Birther era taught me anything it is that to some folks...facts don't matter.

It's obvious he doenst care one bit about sportsmen otherwise he wouldnt be going after AR's.

They're the most popular rifle in America and used in at least three distinct shooting sports along with the so-called "high capacity" magazines.
