I just got an email from Wayne LaPierre, President of the NRA.

You people should hear this, it's the truth....

It's not about protecting children. It's not about stopping crime. It's about banning your guns…PERIOD! Last week, NRA sat in on a White House meeting that was sold to the public as an "open discussion" about how to improve school safety. But that was a dirty lie. They didn' listen to gun owners' concerns…they didn' consider any real solutions on how we can keep our kids safe…instead Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and their gun ban allies in Congress only want to BLAME you, VILIFY you, BULLY you, and STRIP you of your Second Amendment freedoms. Right now, they're steamrolling ahead with legislation that would ban your guns, register your ammunition purchases, and even force you to register the firearms you already own with Obama's anti-gun bureaucrats.

Granted, I think that the language is a bit overdone and dramatic.

Still, though, there are some legitimate concerns that it raises. I think my main one is that there doesn't seem to be a spirit of compromise or rationality in the negotiations, and they do indeed seem to be completely ignoring gun owner's concerns.

Oh, well it's good to know you were at the white house meetings with Wayne and the rest of the NRA.

Where did you get your information, from there right?

Obama's, Biden's, and the rest all have a verifiable history of trying to repeal the 2d Amendment.

Of course, If Romney had been elected we would probably be heading down the same road in regards to this issue. But that is a moot point.

I'm worried. It'll only be a matter of time before someone with a traffic violation, say, for doing a rolling stop or speeding 5 mph over the limit will be denied the right to buy a .22 rifle for squirrel hunting.

I call BS.

All around, another incendiary post designed to rally both sides against each other using what is very likely disinformation. The message seems ludicrous.

Show us the e-mail in full, or recant.

Is anyone else getting fatigued by tireless rants on ATS that seemed designed to inflame emotion and pit innuendo against fact?

Assuming it is true; what will Americans do about it?

Nothing!

Even though the NRA is the best funded of all the organizations that protect the 2nd Amendment (excepting .gov agencies but we are about to see how much they really believe in the 2nd) I believe they will cave on upcoming legislation. They caved in '94 I expect them to cave again.

I believe that Gun Owners of America is more deserving of your support.

and if you really want a militant 2nd amendment defender try out

Jews for Preservation of Firearms Ownership , they know where the banning of private firearms ownership leads.

No - from the complete and utter lack of any actual factual information offered to substantiate the comment.

I made a rational assessment that if there was any ACTUAL evidencde to support it then that evidence would be proffered.

but instead all the evidence that is proffered is innuendo, asseertions without justification, and the like.

I know that sort of thing often passes for "evidence" here on ATS - but that is an indictment on the standard of evidence that people are willing to believe here.

Actually I believe that the statements by the gov't about what they're looking to accomplish is evidence of what they're going to do---go after "assault weapons" AKA semi auto rifles that are black and look menacing, ban high capacity magazines and such. Wayne's letter didn't need to offer anything as proof as it was already in the public eye.

In case you missed it:

Objects don't act out, people do.

We don't blame cameras for child porn.

First steps to enslavement/extermination is disarming. Don't believe me? Ask the American Indian, ask the survivors of Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Amin etc...

Dear xstealth,

I warned you this day was coming and now it's here. This is the fight of the century and I need you on board with NRA now more than ever.

I urge you to renew or upgrade your NRA membership as soon as possible. If it's more convenient for you to do so online, you can follow this link: www.NRA.org/StandAndFight.
Now is the time when I need you and every gun owner to put an NRA membership card in your wallet and STAND AND FIGHT for our freedom. No one can take your place at the front lines of this battle…if we lose now, we lose everything.

The media has been on a vicious tirade to slander and intimidate you, me, and our fellow NRA members. We've been called terrorists and worse. They've blamed us and our Second Amendment freedoms for the actions of violent criminals and madmen. Our lives have been threatened.

But I won' let these brutal and bitterly personal attacks on you and me go unchallenged. I'll fight freedom's enemies. I'll fight to make our schools safer. And I'll fight for your fundamental right to self-defense and your sacred Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

But my strength, and the strength of our entire NRA organization comes from you and your strong commitment to our membership. I need you in our corner TODAY.

Thank you for your friendship and your support. Your letters and your words of encouragement mean more to me than you could ever imagine.

Together, we will defend our freedom.

Wayne

why ??
what would be the point of that ?

@ xstealth, thanks for sharing although i still have doubts about the NRA and their intentions.
what better way to gain a 'registry' than from their membership rosters ?

anyway, i seriously doubt you would attach wayne's name to something he didn't send

so, thanks again for bringing this to our attention.

curious question ... i wonder, when the meeting was so long ago, why wait til now to rally the troops so to speak ??

Because it will silence any calls for bull#, and besides it is easier than typing it out. If it is too much to ask then so be it.

don't know about 'too much', however, i ask because this computer won't do 'screenshots' and i'm wondering why it's soooo important to anyone (including you) when the tag is included.

printing false info (if it were) with such identifiers is still supposed to be unlawful last i checked.
then again, i also remember something about the ban on propaganda toward US citizens being lifted so who knows for sure ??

Or a vet who has a TBI and now is deemed as mentally unfit to own a gun.
