I find it amazing that some many on here believe in big foot, aliens, demons and ghosts but if someone who's a christian is a moron in many of your eyes. People on here quote prophecy or take excerpts from other cultures and consider that to be factual but yet someone who believes in Christianity. I seldom see and I'm stretching it because honestly I have never looked at a post started to say "Believe in God" or "You're going to hell if you don't believe in god" but yet there is a ton of bashing on here around religion. Many of you believe that because one believes in god this makes this person impenetrable from sin and should that person sin, it's the aha moment that religion is somehow a joke.

I guess I'm thinking that because one believes in God, god will shield that believer from all sins and keep him safe? It simly does not work that way and life does not work that way...I'm taught a math lesson at school and for whatever reason I can't figure it out,,,it's not math in general that has failed, it is I as a person who have. Keep that in mind when judging someone.

I like the idea of having a moral compass for myself and I acquired this through religion in my earlier years growing up. Have not been to church since probably the last funeral or wedding I attended but me personally I don't think it was gods wish to make churches to have a chat or make a connection. Just as the government that was founded in most cases was not suppose to get to the point it is at today.

People manipulate things for power and presige...that's just the way it goes, you can be a priest, a policeman or a teacher and as we have seen they have been used for both good and evil.

If we are to be so enlightened on here must we continually make personal attacks against ones belief? There are so many things that we could put to that is systemic to a degree to a culture but that would not be fair to stereotype any particular person. I believe the same courtesy should be given to people of faith.

I guess if it makes you feel superior that you can pick out faults of people because they believe in something than have at it but what are you really accomplishing? Land of the free huh?

Religious people are free to believe that a pink elephant nestling in a tree is their god.

However, when their beliefs start to reduce other people's rights, then people who don't believe in a pink elephant nestling in a tree are perfectly entitled to criticize those beliefs.

S&F

If everyone believed the same thing I do, the world wold be a mighty boring place.

We need "conflicting" belief systems, that way the systems themselves can learn and grow from each other.

In my opinion of course.

I definitely like your little rant.

I'm not perfect and don't claim to be, I do say I'm a Christian. And now I will be bashed.

I don't judge and don't preach, I don't even go to church. I was raised up in a Christian home, and I chose to believe it. I thought that was my right.

I'm not dumb for believing, I also believe that Greek mythology may not be myths, isn't that my right too? I Believe in alot of different off the wall stuff.

I know there are a TON of hypocrites out there that claim to be Christians and aren't. I've messed up several times, and I think that's just part of everything.

At least I live where I'm able to believe whatever I want.

There is a time in a child's life where we tell them Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny don't exist. But imagine if that child didn't believe you when you broke them the truth, that what they believed, what we taught him, was all a lie, a myth, or just something we told him so that life seemed more important or grand. Imagine he instead called you hateful and a sinner for telling him the truth, for you merely letting him know that he doesn't need to believe the stories anymore as an adult. Then also imagine that people even stopped attempting to tell children the truth of the matter, so that Santa and the tooth fairy became revered in the minds of men as absolute power and authority.

Maybe it would be best if we didn't teach them these stories at all, and allowed them to come to their truths on their own accord and under their own conditions.

Let's get one thing straight; I don't attack people unless they personally attack me. As for their beliefs, this is a different story. It doesn't matter if these beliefs are religious, or if someone believes that the moon landings were a hoax, without any evidence to back up their claims then they are just spreading lies, disinformation, or like a mindless bird they are just repeating (believing) what they've heard without doing any solid research.

Yea, Im not really that religious but I am still amazed at the religious hate that goes on around here and other sites as well.
Why dont people just leave people alone, if you wanna believe in god, good for you, if you dont, good for you too but dont attack each other for that belief.

News flash Jiggerj, Conspiracy "Theories" dont require a lot of evidence, otherwise they wouldnt be theories.

I don't mean to disrespect so I don't talk about religion, but we're divided by religion so it's inevitably going to be an outlet for heated discussions, especially on these forums.

First of all I am stating up front that I believe in God. That being said I believe the reason that there is so much "Christian bashing" on this site is because those who do not believe in God are just tired of "Christians" trying to shove their religion down their throats. If people would just start allowing others to live their own lives without casting judgement on them or trying to ostracize them for exercising their own free will the animosity between most believers and non-believers would be almost non-existent. When people feel they are under attack they retaliate- it is human nature.

No, it isnt just that. There are people that blame everything on religion, if you have morals youre a religious "nut"
Heres one thread that compares the sex lives vs abortion/pregnancy rates between the Netherlands and Mississippi of all places, Miss. being higher.
What does he blame this on? Right wing christian beliefs
moron.

I'm not dumb for believing,

That's exactly right. People are not dumb for believing in dumb things. Nobody can possibly know everything. I've heard some exceedingly brilliant people say the STUPIDEST things. The difference is, smart people (non-brainwashed people) can weigh the facts and throw away the garbage they've probably been fed all of their lives.

I have been smoking cigarettes for 43 years, and yet, I will not defend this in any way. And though I am not an idiot I know full well that smoking IS DUMB! Smoking will KILL ME! I am not a better man for smoking. I am not healthier. If the government suddenly removed cigarettes from all store shelves I wouldn't complain in the least.
So, if people wanted to tell me that smoking is bad for my health I am not about to go into defense mode and spew a bunch of nonsense just to defend my addiction. I know the truth when I see it. But, if someone seeks to attack me personally, I will sling the mud as good as I get.

I disagree with this. Why should others dictate what you will and will not chat about? There is no such thing as a heated topic, only heated people that can't discuss things without getting defensive, insulting, and childish. We always hear that we shouldn't talk about religion or politics, and even sports can end up with fists flying. So, are we expected to go through life saying nothing? That's bull! I have a right to my opinion and so do you.

Let the babies throw their temper tantrums. I'm not shutting up!

I find it amazing that some many on here believe in big foot, aliens, demons and ghosts but if someone who's a christian is a moron in many of your eyes.

That is a some what legitimate point. I tend to believe in aliens but I will mock Christians every now and then.

There's an important difference here though... Christianity specifies a certain God with certain rules and all sorts of other mumbo jumbo. And there are like dozens of different religions with all these different rules, and a lot of them are constantly at each others throats arguing who is correct.

I have absolutely no problem with a person who might believe that "some sort of God" does exist. I'm agnostic myself, meaning I can accept the possibility there might be a God, and that we as Humans don't have a definitive answer concerning whether a God does or doesn't exist.

We simply don't know with absolute certainty... Christians who say God definitely exists are just as bad as Atheists who say God definitely doesn't exist. So the point is this... it's fine to believe that a God exists, or that aliens exists... but when you start getting specific, without any evidence, there's a problem.

There is simply no logical validity to believing every word of the bible or any other religious text, when the claims being made in those texts lack evidence. Just like the most popular book on aliens... anyone who believes every word of such a book, as if it were some sort of holy gospel on aliens, is an idiot.

So... in conclusion, I believe in aliens but I don't have any religious framework for those beliefs. I think "yeah aliens probably exist, but I don't really know who they are, why they are here, or what they want from us". I've just reached certain conclusions based on the evidence I've seen and my own personal experiences.

So if you've had your own personal experiences that lead you to believe that a God may exist, that's absolutely fine. But tell me where the logic is when you instantly jump to the nearest religious text and start expanding your beliefs to encompass the teachings of such ridiculous religious texts?

What makes you truly think those religious texts have anything to do with the nature of the God you have come to believe in? I can tell you now that the connection to those texts is nothing more than environmental circumstances; the society you are raised in and the most popular text in that society is the one you're likely to adopt.

I actually participated a wee bit in that thread. Usually when someone is that angry and biased it is because they were treated very badly by someone who is a supposed "Christian". When there is that much obvious animosity it's generally because somewhere in that person's past they were hurt very badly and irreparably by someone who presented themselves as "Christian" but was more than likely a hypocrite. I pity those who have been treated so.

Ok... now I see what has caused this rant to manifest. That thread.

Honestly the OP of that thread has a semi-valid point. The extreme conservatism in many predominantly Christian western nations is one of the prime causes of excessive sexual misunderstanding and suppression. It simply cannot be denied. However there's a lot more too it than just religion of course. In general, these western nations have an overall ridiculous attitude and approach to sex. We are indoctrinated from birth and brought up with very unhealthy sexual philosophies. It's like a slow process of indoctrination which is manifested not just by religious people, but from society as a whole.

I get what you're saying. I think the misconception occurs when some with extreme prejudice against religious people assume that all believers raise their children that way. There are those of us who raise our kids with an open and frank dialogue concerning sex and birth control in a healthy and natural way. That still doesn't mean we would condone our children having sexual sleepovers. Most non-believers feel the same way. During their teenage years they are definitely ready physically for sex, but mentally and emotionally? Not so much! They have too many hormones raging to put relationships in proper perspective- especially those of a sexual nature!

If I were to say that I worship Satan, and that I slaughter my own goats and use their blood to perform rituals while naked beneath a full moon and surrounded by virgins ready to be ravished in the name of the great and glorious Baal, how many Christians here would bash me for it?

Thought so.

P.S. Just in case anyone takes me seriously, I don't do any of that. But dancing naked with a virgin beneath a full moon does sound fun...

First off..IMHO..a TRUE Christian knows they have not the ability nor right to judge others beliefs. That judgement rests solely with God.
Secondly, Iam agnostic. I don't feel the need to defend that nor force it on anyone else.
That word (agnostic) is the word that encompasses a set of beliefs that feels most comfortable for me in this life experience.
It doesn't make me right or wrong or a better or lesser person. It simply makes me, ME
It is also not my place to judge any other person based on their religious affiliation, political stance, or opinion on ANY topic. Every person is entitled to their own beliefs and opinions and they are to be 100% respected by others.
There is not one person on this earth that has the right to judge another. Nobody is free of enough sin (for lack of a better word) to put themselves on a pedestal above anyone else.
IMHO, there are just too many bullies on this playground sometimes that will nitpick about anything and attack you personally because they need to put somebody else down just to feel better about themselves.
They aren't worth responding to. If you feel called out or baited by anyone, respond in kind and remain courteous. Be the better person no matter how hard it is sometimes.
