The Japanese military has received orders to strike down the planned launch of a long-range missile by North Korea, if it is deemed to threaten Japan's national security.

Following a meeting of the Security Council of Japan, chief cabinet secretary Osamu Fujimura was quoted by Agence France-Presse as saying that the military will destroy the projectile or any part that appears to land on Japanese territory.

The government will broadcast information to local authorities and other broadcasters, whilst social media will also be used following the missile's launch, Fujimura said.

"We do not expect any debris [from a North Korean missile] under normal circumstances.''

The move follows reports about increasing activity, including the filling of a fuel tank alongside the launch pad at the Sohae satellite launching station in Cholsan Country, North Korea, that could indicate a test launch taking place as early as next week, The Daily Telegraph reported citing Yonhap News Agency.

Further tensions are building towards this launch of the N korean satelite.....
The other players are making some heavy preparations for it.....see link below
I am wondering what if any, further problems up to now unnoticed may arise.....
Even up to the Ed dames prediction...
NK launches rocket and world ends.....
The timing couldnt be more coincidental could it?
Several navies are manouvering off korean peninsula for this test flight....Is it possible we could find ourselves in a shooting war by mistake even?
As far as i have heard two nuclear subs shadow the peninsula constantly to back S korea against a N K attack.....
One scenario that did occur to me was a stray nuke hitting the huge caldera in N korea...setting off a mega volcano thats already very active these days....

Could someone please explain to me why this missile could be a thread to the Philippines? I see it on the news every now and then but don't really understand why NORK would bother to launch a missile to the PH? I'm leaning towards the paranoid media.

It's not, any more than it is to Japan. The Japanese are not saying they will shoot it down, they are saying IF the missile is on a trajectory that would violate Japanese territory they will take action. It's common sense.

I heard from my Korean friend that the launch was scrubbed due to snow drifts....even if pieces are available for practice shots.

I think that would probably be something to do with Philippines being an American puppet/colony.

You might want to recheck your history. Philippines was once a US territory, and asked for and were granted independence. Although many there regret that now.

Hmmm...

It would seem Japan is gearing up for something big, not only have they been active on the missile defense front, they are also introducing new and advanced versions of their main battle tank.

They're also moving towards they idea of something more then the classic " JSDF " moto

For most of the post-war period the JSDF was confined to the islands of Japan and not permitted to be deployed abroad. In recent years they have been engaged in international peacekeeping operations. Recent tensions, particularly with North Korea, have reignited the debate over the status of the JSDF and its relation to Japanese society.

Okay guys, here is what N. Korea is going to do. They are going to test their new longer range ballistic missile. Yes, with out further explanation this could sound bad, how ever they are simply testing the delivery vehicle. This is like saying, the army is testing a new humvee. It's nothing but a delivery system. If that humvee is empty, so what. Same deal, the long range missile will be launched out into sea, with out a warhead. Basically this means they are shooting off a dud. It is just a rocket motor with a guidance system. Sure another just like it could be loaded with any number of payloads, but it's just a test. Many nations around the world have performed very similar tests and no one has even thought to shake a stick at it.

I suppose given the tension with N. Korea and it being a Nuclear club member, we don't want them to be able to deliver long range accurate strikes with a potential of nuclear payload, but they have just as much a right as the US, Russia, China, UK Etc etc. Disarm everyone, or quit bitching.

Its possible they may be successful in launching a satelite......which im sure the neighbours would not want up there......
As far as a test rocket goes....when its an ICBM its anyones guess wqhere it could end up....
meanwhile the chances of another incident are allso heightened with the various aegis ships manouvering for a shot....
should it be nessessary (also a matter of opine)
Whos gonna shoot the errant hulk down?
whoever does is going to piss of the NKs......
There is an element of risk here.....
What may or could happen is open to conjecture on this site i hope....
Ed dames aid he remote viewqed the end of the world, and theres nothing beyond a NK missile launch......perhaps not this one....

I am def with Japan on this issue. NK is simply a paranoiac's nightmare. I read long studies, including a book on their Yuche philosophy. They are not aligned with anyone - they even sent out the Chinese - at this point it serves the interests of the CCP to have NK as a buffer zone though. They are determined to start an Asian war some time - they were the ones that started the Korean War which never ended on paper - because they think everyone is out to get them sooner or later. Which may prove to be a self-fulfilling prohecy.
Depends on the Chinese if they let them actually start a war... which might depend on other things such as the US delaying or shelving its long-planned confrontation with Iran - which is clearly in the Chinese sphere of influence.
Average NK people are not taking this aggressive stance - but the situation is such that they cannot resist. Those that flee to the South are found to have attitudes even after years that show they faile to adapt to today's world. I don't mean mainstream Western Socialism because they have actually no idea what that is.

$20 says the missile drops out of the sky moments after lift off.

Japan and every nation in the region have the right to shoot this thing down, especially considering the North Koreans have NOT told anyone whats really inside and also considering the last few times the Koreans did this is fell out of the sky, by luck it didnt land in a city!

So do you think a convicted murderer who liked shooting random people should have the same right to a gun as everyone else? That is more or less what you are arguing. Sounds kind of rediculous now doesn't it? I am glad your opinion on the matter has changed.

But you're okay with the US having nukes, being that they are the only nation to have used them?

Call me crazy but that's exactly like letting a criminal have a gun.

everyone or no one bucko.

If someone breaks into your neighbors house and attacks him, and your neighbor shoots him, then goes on to never use his gun again, do you think your neighbor's gun should be taken away? Your position makes no sense when thought about logically. Sorry, Bucko.
