Simple question here.

Why does being a communist or a socialist require you grow a long nasty unkept beard?

I know it is not an absolute, nothing is. But.....

for the most part, people who are deeply communist, Marxist even, and socialists of all forms, grow nasty beards....

Not sure why. I am not really any of those but I would love to grow an awesome beard.

I'm not sure why but my beard growing skills are lacking. In my 30's now and I can not grow a full beard still.

Any tips on growing a burly beard?

HA! funny observation. I know a self proclaimed socialist who I debate/work with and he has a ragged hobo beard. I think it has to do with being a nonconformist. I trim my beard (gotta hide the ginger)

yes. When you are applying the razor to your face, don't.

I think you have to start coveting your neighbors stuff and then wearing allot of red.

I think this helps. Also, it may be note worthy, listen to horrible whiny music. The sound vibrations might make your hair try to escape from your body.

Don't disrespect beards man. Beards are the mark of a wise man, no matter what political affiliation they have.

I live in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. A beard is a requirement here...or at least it should be

Hey I can't knock em. I like them. I am currently growing mine out. I get bored from time to time. When I am clean shaven I literally look like I am -18. When I do I look like I am I trim mine and let you know I care.

It grows pretty quick. In 2 weeks I can look like a mountain man.

I just noticed that all the communists I know are commies, have them. Not like the modern "I am too sexy for a razor" beards, but the "I am the reincarnation of the anti czar movement....Beards for Russia! Now!" type.....

I guess it is like a nihilist thing. They don't mind looking like they live under a bridge.

Who knows.

Hey I challenge your assertion! Neither Mao nor Lenin nor Stalin had long, nasty, unkempt beards: Mao was clean shaven, Joe Stalin had a big moustache and Lenin at times had a goatee or very neatly trimmed beard. Methinks you're referring to Marx, Engles and Castro. I'm on the fence about Che, his beard wasn't long and nasty but it was very unkempt and "patchy".

PICS or it ain't like that at all and I call BS!

p.s. just to appease the hard cores, Obama doesn't have a beard either

Mostly so the old folk can re-distribute the beard wealth in their later years.

I was going to reply to this with a scathing attack against yet another slanderous stereotyping of leftist individuals but then I looked down and noticed my seven inch beard...

Idk. Maybe it gives us incredible superpowers of logic and reason?

In respect to Slayer69 and Lord Stark. I would like to post this picture to show why beards are incredibly cool.

Mix a beard with a massive fur coat and you are going to look like a badass. There is no denying it, you want a beard and fur.

You also have to wear drab clothing.

Socialists grow beards so that they have something to stroke while thinking or holding forth. Everyone knows stroking a beard actually pulls ideas out of the mind, and speaking while stroking the beard, increases the wisdom factor by 2 at least. Also it often yields snacks for later, which if your a socialist, you are generally in need of.

One of my most favorite and dearest friend ATSers is a communist.. and has an internet hobo beard. The guy is a knock out.. like could be a drop dead hot movie star kinda hotness. But this beard.... blarf. Hmm.. there is some truth to the communist and having a beard correlation.

I stumbled across this article a while back. Found it interesting.

Turkey's booming health tourism sector is getting hairier. Transplants have long been offered to those who are thin on top, but now facial hair implants are gaining in popularity, with follically challenged men flying in to make the most of the services on offer in the country.

Tulunay, a doctor, says that moustache and beard implants started to become popular two years ago, and that 10 to 15 of his 60 monthly hair transplant patients now ask for facial hair transplantation. Most are from the Middle East.
Full Article:

Some dudes out there want facial hair so bad, that they're willing to fork out cash for it. Different cultures have their own ideologies about beards. I do kind of find it funny how we (humans) automatically tie in different personalities to people and especially to parts of them that may stand out to what is perceived as normal.

I myself suffer from this human ailment but at least I have become a bit more aware of it over time and can work on fixing aspects I may be uncomfortable with. I believe most people are like this as well, but tend to remain complacent within their social structure.

It is definitely interesting to ponder over.
