Spanking Toast Icicles

We are all familiar with "check", a click of the tongue, or of course "1, 2," (to which at least one person in the audience will shout out the oh so funny retort of "3, 4",) when bands are setting up, and testing the mic;s. In recent years sound engineers have experimented with new "soundcheck" words that adequately test the response, and clarity of microphones, and the the words Spanking, Toast, and Icicles have emerged as three of the most effective to gauge the audio response of mic's to the human voice.

When I first started this topic it was my intention to ask ATS patrons if they knew of, or used any other words that were suitable for sound checking, but as I arrived at the title I realized that it could also be a thread discussing any of the topics in the title. So if you wish to use this thread to explore the concept of Toast, or Icicles please do, or if you prefer "Spanking" I am totally up for it.

Spanking Toast Icicles

Almost didn't even bother clicking on this thread, seeing as I had NO idea what spanking toast icicles could possibly be. Figured it was new slang for something I would never say or use.

Hey, it took me a good couple of years to find out what a Blue tooth was, and why people were going crazy for a frikkin' fruit called blackberry.

yeah, I like it better...

I used to do stage setups and would recite this little ditty for a mike check. It was usually good for a laugh from the rest of the crew. and since I worked with different crews most of them didn't have a chance to get tired of it.

Mary had a littler lamb
Her father killed it dead
now she takes her lamb to school
Between two slices of bread

And then there is the old Smothers Brothers standby
