How real is Bird Flu?

Sars, West Nile, Madcow, HIV and now Bird Flu... are we all doomed?

31 people in Thailand and Vietnam have died this year from contracting the Bird Flu virus H5N1,

Although the virus has most commonly been found in chickens, scientists fear it could mutate by linking with a human flu virus, sparking a global pandemic.

Will Bird flu reach the West? If the deadly virus mutates with the common winter flu could this epidemic destroy mankind?
