South Koreans have found tunnels constructed by the North Koreans intended as invasion tunnels. The ones found were destroyed. More expected to be found!

This is old news though very alarming. Could more be found?

Its one of the main reason NK feels they can defeat the US. Its a shame for them though we already know how to deal with it.

True enough, lest they forget we learned from the best. Remember Ho chi ming, vietnam taught the us military exactly how to deal with tunnels.

Agree with you, NK doesn't have a chance unless they have an allie.

So far, it seems content to let it's little red-headed step child dig itself out of this mess....

I read a sci fi book that had a scenario where North Korea invaded the South, using tunnels.

In this scenario, NK fired a sneak attack with medium range tactical missles loaded with VX, which pretty much decimated the population of Seoul. Then they launched massed human wave attacks against US forces over the DMZ, which kept all US forced occupied, while the main NK force came through hidden tunnels under the mountains (AKA, the posted article), and took the US forces from behind. The NK forces were halted in Seoul by US tactical nukes, but with a total loss of all population in Seoul and over 80,000 American troops.

The scary thing here is, we found some tunnels... what about a number of others that we may not know about???

MOAB is a married lady dropping her husband from a plane would probably require a C-5 Galaxy

Seriously, detonating something five to ten times more powerful that MOAB underground, would generate a considerable shock wave. I dare say enough to make most tunnels within range cave in no radiation and the only ones harmed are lawful combatants.

Yeah but what about nearby civilian structures? Who gets to pay for the cleanup of that? Not like the south needs another reason to hate us for being there to protect them...

it's too risky to kill civilians to take a chance hit on the north koreans. besides, a moab type bomb underground would only localize damage, nothing powerful. bunker busters would be better. either that or avoiding a war maybe?

Setting off a 20-kiloton non nuclear bomb underground may in fact require moving civilians from an area where tremors are going to be felt. But when looking at Korea the distance between the boarders and civilian populations is considerable.

The real issue lies with respect to applying such technology near NK cities, but if the tunnels are
Blocked in all directions as a reuslt of having caved in, the necessity to engage in such tactics is less
Relevant in cities.

Furthermore computer models in this case are ideal indicators of effect presenting options with respect to
an almost surgical application of explosives vs. effect to above surface structures.
