Republicans loved drawing the analogy back in August while they descended on NYC for their convention, opposite the Democrats in Boston.

WASHINGTON TODAY: If Republicans are the Yankees of Politics; Democrats Must be the Red Sox

Even as they applied band-aids to their glistening faces and flip flops on their hands, the gleeful predictions of GOP/Yankee blowouts were made.

The Yankees embody values of the Republican Party -- wealth, entrepreneurship. The team remains the richest in baseball, just as the GOP maintains its dominant financial position in American politics. The Yankees resist revenue-sharing aimed at helping poorer teams, just as the Republican Party fights economic policies aimed at redistributing wealth.

And the Yankees are successful -- winning American League pennants in five of the last six years, just as the GOP has won four of the last six presidential elections. The team's most visible fan is one of the nation's leading Republicans: former Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

But wait? Huh? What's that fans of political sports analogies?

Impossible Mission Accomplished
Red Sox rout Yankees in Game 7 to finish greatest comeback ever

NEW YORK (AP) -- Boston blew away decades of defeat with four sweet swings. [JOBS! HEALTHCARE!! IRAQ!!! THE MIDDLE CLASS!!!!]

Believe it, New England, the Red Sox are in the World Series. And they got there with the most unbelievable comeback of all, shaming the New York Yankees, the Evil Empire to the south.

Damn, I like that. SHAMING THE EVIL EMPIRE TO THE SOUTH!

Sounds like a plan for Nov. 2 too.

Speaking of money [money, evil, GOP, same thing], is it a coincidence that the Yankees owner, George Steinbrenner, has contributed to President Bush in this election, while the Red Sox chairman, Tom Werner, has given to Kerry? Yankees shortstop Alex Rodriguez also contributed to Bush. With a $25 million annual salary, he's got a financial incentive in preserving Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, which Kerry promises to eliminate.

Mumble. #$*$ &%^ A-ROD! Grumble. &*%& &(*!!! LOSER!

Just three outs from getting swept out of the AL championship series three nights earlier, the Red Sox finally humbled the dreaded Yankees, winning Game 7 in a 10-3 shocker Wednesday night to become the first major league team to overcome a 3-0 postseason series deficit.

Cursed for 86 years, these Red Sox just might be charmed.

"All empires fall sooner of later," Boston president Larry Lucchino said.

Especially EVIL ones, eh Lucchino?

HOPE IS INDEED ON THE WAY!

New England Patriots won the Super Bowl too yaknow, then Kerry won the primary.

John Kerry "KERRY: Boy, to listen to that -- the president, I don't think, is living in a world of reality with respect to the environment.

Now, if you're a Red Sox fan, that's OK. But if you're a president, it's not."

I guess Kerry's understanding of sports is as good as his understanding of how to deal with terrorism.

Great! the Red Sox win, just gives Kerry more opportunities to make a fool of himself. New York and Massachutes are both democrat states.

I am a Republican and a Cub fan, but I was rooting for the Red Sox.

Didn't Kerry, when asked who is your favorite Red Sox player, say "Manny Ortiz"

For those you don't know, Manny Ortiz does not exist.

Didn't Kerry also say Red Sox fans don't live in reality?

Hey I am a baseball fan my father used to sponsor littler leagues I played baseball when I was a girl, now we "are yankee" fans and for some reason while my husband was fuming at the turn around and make me turn the tv off because he was so upset, I deep inside wanted the red sock to win.

I wanted the curse of the bambino to go away and for some reason I felt the red socks needed to win.

Now do not tell that to my hubby or he will divorce me.

No, he actually said his favorite Red Sox player was Eddie Yost, who never even played for the Red Sox.

Red Sox = Democrats is the most mixed up reasoning that I have heard lately.

Of course it comes from the Dems who are the experts of this kind of reasoning.

I am a poor old lady and a Republican. Don't have any trust funds salted away and still work to put food on the table.

Here is where the Dems reasoning abilities went wrong.

Dems are for more government help... Especially the lower income classes who can't or won't take care of themselves.

Red Sox won with all of their own abilities and talents added to the
fact that they knew no one was going to give it to them. If they
wanted to win they had to get out there and do it for themselves.

The Red Sox comeback sounds more like the Republicans who BELIEVE that the individual is capable of making his/her own choices.

Yes.....I am a Republican and a life long Red Sox fan. We Believe!

World Series wins since 1918

Yankees-26
Red Sox-0

Please the Red Sox aint close to touching the Yankees. Dont doubt the power of the curse of the bambino either. They have been to the series 4 times since 1918 and lost everyone in game 7.

The Empire will strike back.
