We all know there are idiots like this guy in Congress.... he is an easy target. How about we get on the case of the idiot(s) that put him on that committee? He is his own problem, and those who elected him, but for the Republican leaders to have appointed a Neanderthal like this guy to that committee is nothing less than scorn for the citizens of the United States of America! THIS is the kind of guy that should be marginalized and pushed off to the side; not given support or a place of importance in any way, shape, or form. This is an insult to those of us with a lick of common sense.... he does NOT belong on a science committee if he doesn't even believe in science!

Clean-cut, shaven, good wholesome family values... What's the problem?
He will help keep america safe - you all know this.
You want to see another muslim with political power? No you don't.
He knows his bible people! I can tell.
That's a real american right there!!

Let martial note in triumph float
And liberty extend its mighty hand
A flag appears 'mid thunderous cheers,
The banner of the Western land.
The emblem of the brave and true
Its folds protect no tyrant crew;
The red and white and starry blue
Is freedom's shield and hope.
Other nations may deem their flags the best
And cheer them with fervid elation
But the flag of the North and South and West
Is the flag of flags, the flag of Freedom's nation.

Hurrah for the flag of the free!
May it wave as our standard forever,
The gem of the land and the sea,
The banner of the right.
Let despots remember the day
When our fathers with mighty endeavor
Proclaimed as they marched to the fray
That by their might and by their right
It waves forever.

Let eagle shriek from lofty peak
The never-ending watchword of our land;
Let summer breeze waft through the trees
The echo of the chorus grand.
Sing out for liberty and light,
Sing out for freedom and the right.
Sing out for Union and its might,
O patriotic sons.
Other nations may deem their flags the best
And cheer them with fervid elation,
But the flag of the North and South and West
Is the flag of flags, the flag of Freedom's nation.

Hurrah for the flag of the free.
May it wave as our standard forever
The gem of the land and the sea,
The banner of the right.
Let despots remember the day
When our fathers with might endeavor
Proclaimed as they marched to the fray,
That by their might and by their right
It waves forever.

OH YES! Can you all feel it?!
America will rise again, with Obama gone and Romney as our President.
All pro-abortion, freeloading, crack smoking hippies can just move to socialist Canada!

All I'm saying is that's not what the guy said. Go back and look at the quote. You're interpreting his statement as a blanket condemnation of science in an attempt to make Republicans look stupid.

I'm not Republican, Democrat, nor anything of the sort--they're all stupid. I'm simply pointing out the manipulative use of language.

Did he, or did he not, say "Lies from the pit of Hell"?

That alone, regardless of whether he thinks all science is evil or not, is enough to point and laugh at this man and out him as a complete imbecile who should not be in charge of a biscuit let alone be in a position of power within a government.

Separation of church and state.

It's amazing that a man like this can retain such a position, when plenty of Americans look on Islamic leaders as religious extremists. What makes this different? You can set aside the cultural differences, the fact is that in many Islamic nations there are religious clerics preaching insanity from their podiums in leadership, and you have exactly the same thing in the USA.

But because he's Christian, that makes his brand of religious insanity okay?

I've been here just long enough to believe this guy is either from ATS or he would fit right in here.

With all the 'Curiosity didn't land on Mars' and 'Lunar landings were fake' threads I've seen, ignoring scientific facts is just that, ignorant. He's sitting right next to Todd Akin reading his doodle pad? For the love...

I don't agree with this guy but I do know where hes coming from.
Science, whether literally or symbolically, was introduced to man kind to deter away from God.

Case in point, the serpent introduced Adam and Eve to the Tree of Knowledge, and claimed that by eating its fruit they will become like God.
So one can say that the Tree of Knowledge symbolizes science because now man is on the verge of becoming God-like, and not too far away from creating his own mini universes and small life-forms, if he hasn't already.

It all comes full circle 6000 years from now (our time) when these same, small universes will be relatively about 2 Billion years old (their time) and will no longer believe in Man as their creator.

Actually it was invented by religious people to try to find a way to help explain gods workings - Galileo, Newton, etc - all of them were religious and wanted to know more about how god made the universe work.

Sorry about that.

Well then you should quit using the devils tools of science. Mainly the computer. Reject the despicable ways of science. Continue to Consort with Satan in this manner and the wrath of the almighty will
strike you and your family.

The www. is a mini universe and a result of science. Abandon your evil ways and sin no more.

One can also say that the bible is a bunch of stories - some of them good, some of them not so good - written by a bunch of originally illiterate tribesmen after they "learned their letters" in Babylonia some time around 500 BC, and that saying "it has messages to the modern world" is daft.

If one wanted to.

Says it all really...

You can have political ideologies and opinions...but if you're going up against facts you turn yourself into a village idiot. Like the guy who claims cutting down more rain forests will somehow decrease (!!!) greenhouse gases. And that guy sits on a SCIENCE COMMITTEE!!

Both parties have idiots, but lately it seems the GOP is parading too many of those clowns.

Science doesn't disprove god...it just says that there is no objective evidence for his/her/its existence...which is a FACT.

Science gave us longer life spans, food for billions of people, cures diseases, makes it possible for you to type posts on the Internet (no matter how wrong those posts are), allows you to drive cars, fly planes, use a microwave...and and and and...

Not once did scientists go "mhhhhh, my real goal is to disprove god...that microwave's just a bi-product"

What you consider science disproving god is nothing but FACTS disagreeing with your religious beliefs

I'm not claiming to be a bible thumper, I'm just saying this needs to be looked at a little further without relying on knee jerk reactions in an attempt to disqualify and ridicule.

My point is both science and religion can actually complement each other to arrive at the real truth.

Sure science has given us longer life spans, but for all we know it is merely allowing the human body to revert back to biblical days when people lived to be over one hundred years old.
In other words, it is allowing man to re-enable what was intentionally disabled by God so many years ago, when man ate from the tree, which eventually led to mortality with each generation living less than the last.

It has done this through scientific discoveries, or rather, re-discoveries.
Re-discoveries because many times they focus on foods mentioned in the Bible.
You know, the natural stuff without all the cancerous artificial preserves and all the Monsanto bi-products.

As I mentioned before, I don't completely agree with this person because science obviously does have benefits if used correctly and without greed and without abuse.

That's why it should be referred to as "The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil"!

And your proof of them living longer than 100 years is?

In other words, it is allowing man to re-enable what was intentionally disabled by God so many years ago, when man ate from the tree, which eventually led to mortality with each generation living less than the last.

Proof?

Re-discoveries because many times they focus on foods mentioned in the Bible.

We have rational explanations for why that stuff is bad...and not all of it is anyway

The bible obviously talks about some of the same food because guess what...sheep where around back then too.

Of course science can be abused...but that doesn't change the fact that it's based on rationality and logic, while religion often goes directly against that.

Take the global flood for example. The bible says it happened, yet we know for a FACT that it didn't. The bible is demonstrably wrong in hundreds of cases, so pretending it's somehow "the truth" is silly.

I do not think he actually believes what he is saying. I am afraid it is far worse. I think he thinks that kind of talk gets him reelected and I would be concerned if it turns out to be right.
