He was resisting and do you know for sure he was slammed to the ground? His hip probably went out.

The Biden comment was about Bidens age not your poltical affiliation.

Nothing improper about removing a nuissance.

I dunno, Ive heard people say dont have a heart attck to young people. Even if it was an age joke, lol.

And 'removing a nuisance' is acceptable....

Legally, the term nuisance is traditionally used in three ways:
1. to describe an activity or condition that is harmful or annoying to others (e.g., indecent conduct, a rubbish heap or a smoking chimney)
2. to describe the harm caused by the before-mentioned activity or condition (e.g., loud noises or objectionable odors)
3. to describe a legal liability that arises from the combination of the two.[2] However, the "interference" was not the result of a neighbor stealing land or trespassing on the land. Instead, it arose from activities taking place on another person's land that affected the enjoyment of that land.[3]

So if we go with 1, he was as harmful as a smoking chimney. 2, he was kin to someone at work that forgot to shower and use deodorant. This man was frustrated, responded to Paul's comment about the blight of our economy being what he receives to survive, he was proper in his outrage. Considering that Paul was talking about how to fix the economy was to get rid of the entitlement programs such as social security.

With a nuisance complaint, on a normal day, say for loud music at a residence, isn't the proper response from the police to 'warn'....ie, turn it down, and don't make me come back out here? how did we go from speaking your mind to forceful arrest, and a man of that age....he was escorted out, why could they not just handcuff him standing up?

he was resisting what?

there was no reason to arrest him in the first place so how do you resist arrest when you really shouldnt be in the process of being arrested?

Ryan could have stepped in as mentioned above, and probably should have.

That being said there are too many questions to make an opinion because it happened so fast.

1 Was the man supposed to be at this meeting? It looked like at least a semi private event. Maybe he wasn't supposed to be there. Maybe he has already been warned for previous behavior?

2 When was this? Looks like awhile back (Ryan I think looks a bit younger then now). Fine to bring to light now that he is running for VP, but I don't think this just happened. An older more experinced politician (including Ryan himself) would likely handle better.

He was speaking his mind at a lunch he paid to attend......oh wait, right freedom of speech is a violation of one law or another.....he must have screamed FIRE!...why were the police there again at a private function?

That was the exact thought that went through my mind. The second was that I couldn't believe people laughed. And the third was how could everyone just sit there and not say a damn thing. Perfect example of sheeple.

As Congressman Paul Ryan cracked a joke about him, Tom Nielsen found himself face down on the floor being handcuffed by police. The 71-year-old retired plumber from Kenosha was thrown to the ground, placed in handcuffs, and arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest after objecting to Ryan's plans to gut Social Security and Medicare during his congressman's only public appearance scheduled during the August recess -- a $15 Rotary Club luncheon in West Allis on Tuesday.

Nielsen repeatedly told police that he wasn't fighting them and that he didn't want to make any trouble. He also told them several times that he had a broken shoulder. Police officers ignored his comments as they wrestled him to the ground despite his howls of pain.

Nielsen's comment to Ryan at the luncheon, his arrest, and Ryan's joke are all captured on video available here.

Meh. Joke didnt strike me as being in poor taste. I dont think it was intended as an age joke. More an anger joke. You cant have a nice little chat every time some jackaninny decides to get loud and speak out of turn. The gentleman could have waited for the Q and A and been respectful.

I'm a senior citizen on blood pressure medicine.

I don't consider it a joke.

I would like to see more video of this. It's possible this man has interrupted Ryan with his outbursts several times before and this time Ryan chose not to respond.

I still believe Ryan's comment was in bad taste, though.

at least he wasnt assaulted with a taser.

uhm. no you can't...we all have to be quiet and peaceful, no matter how much you want to protest. how about those "V" for vendetta movie masks....maybe 200,000 to 300,000 all wearing those masks walking up to congress on the capitol mall would make an impression...it would certainly fool the face-recognition software.

Trespassing? So he was a party crasher, then?
Why do cops always have to act so rough, especially when Mr. Nielson said he had a broken shoulder?!

I wasnt tryimg to play lawyer. He was being a pain in the ass. Other people were there to listen, he was mak8ng that hard to do. He needed a time out. Cops were escorting him, he was resisting, he probably fell down or wouldnt hold still so he wound up on the ground.

Ain't that the truth.

And I was Republican for 40+ years.

These are not any Republican I ever knew.

This Right Wing elite is insane. And there are those who are not in the top income level - - that support them. They are insane too.

At least Jenna Jameson is honest:

The older gentleman should have waited to express his anger, but discounting that fact, mr ryan had a very poor choice in words. Someone in his position should know how to react better, not make a joke or condescending comments/jokes. Poor taste, and it just shows how unprofessional and bad he is at dealing with ambiguity.

I felt anger and frustration while watching that video. Ryan's joke about heart medicine was repulsive to me.

OK, so the older man won't go down in the history books for his tactfulness- but he had every right to stand up and speak out. I find Ryan's flippant joking at this disgusting.

I'm sure we can all agree that social security, medicare, and the likes are in need of serious reform. But the old man has a point and also every right to say it. People are fed up and should be given the right to express themselves.

What law did he break? Did anyone witness him actually breaking a law? It was a private venue, meaning private, so the police really didn't have jurisdiction to 'arrest' without a complaint being filed against the man.....am I wrong?
my thoughts exactly,he has the right to speak its just a room.just because its a press conference doesn't mean your right to speak is revoked.i think people should "occupy the air waves"and use the media as a platform where ever and, when ever cameras are rolling.make it live they cant cut away every time.

sadly when actions like this happen when people speak up, less people will want to speak up.

not only was this man thrown down and arrested, he was ridiculed in front of his peers.

i see romney and ryan are both bullies .
