Activist group Anonymous says it has successfully knocked offline the public website of Australia's domestic spy agency, the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO). The group says it also intends to target another of Australia's intelligence bodies, the Defence Signals Directorate (DSD).

Anonymous Australia said on Twitter that hackers had been "busy" attacking the site. Another Twitter post said: "ASIO Down. Once Again! DSD! You're NEXT!"
A Defence spokeswoman said the Cyber Security Operations Centre at the Defence Signals Directorate (DSD) was "aware of recent hacktivist group activity directed at the DSD website".
"The DSD website has not experienced any technical issues and has remained available," the spokeswoman said. "The DSD website does not host any classified information and any disruption would not represent a risk to DSD business."

I've read and viewed various bits and pieces over the past 6 or so months regarding this entity - Anonymous, but find myself sitting on the fence regarding their validity and intentions (and as an extension whether or not it is nothing more than a CIA brainchild).

With an apparent global reach and no clear leadership, does this group have a 'prime directive' as such? I mean, what is their overall goal or endgame?
Does Anonymous really differ from Wikileaks that much regarding bringing to the publics attention the covert undertakings of their respective governments?

I'm telling you there are two groups. One is the REAL anonymous who are protestors, hacktivists fighting for good and justice.

The other is the CIA hackers who are using the "anonymous" brand to try and make Anonymous look bad whilst trying to make Anonymous enemies by doing things with their own agenda in mind, such as hack Syria government or other CIA operative stuff...

Has ANONYMOUS said anything about exactly what threat ASIO poses to what they're supposed to stand for - like when they hacked and crashed those kiddie porn sites and made those videos warning us about FEMA?

I'm not seeing any correlation here.

I agree. This also can lead to tighter internet security - (spying on civillians) to control so called "Cyber Terrorists'

For more Gun Control they let loose "Domestic Terrorists" - For more Internet Control the let loose "Cyber Terrorists".

Couldn't agree more. Though, I also though of a little flaw in my idea. If there were two groups, then the real Anonymous might come out and declare that they didn't perform certain ops, and it was another group claiming to be Anonymous... SO who knows...

People do not understand how the internet works. It is complicated so I do not fault them for that. There are groups out there that pretend to be "Anon" for nefarious purposes.

If I understand what the real anonymous stands for is free information, and true justice. EX: Not long ago (maybe a year) there was a video uploaded to youtube of a sick girl throwing live puppies into a fast flowing river. They "anon" located the girl in the video and she was brought to justice.

They may have questionable ideas on what justice is, but I believe they are working towards that. The other group out there is just pretending and making enemies for the real "Anon" because not one of the real group is stupid enough to go on record saying......"Uh yeah hey guys....we didn't do that"

There was one time when the fake anon went after the Westborough Church and the real anon posted a disclaimer saying they did not do it. It really depends.....I don't know what to believe anymore.
