Brocken spectre also known as Brocken bow or mountain spectre

A photographer managed to catch the spectacular moment when the plane he was travelling on appeared surrounded by a rainbow halo.

www.dailymail.co.uk...
There is also a superstition among mountain climbers that whoever sees a Brocken Spectre will die the next day
Looks like the shadow is flying into a portal

Not a nice comment to make while you are inside the plane.

You ought to see one from my point of view (in my kite)!

Something really cool about it is that as you fly over varying heights of cloud tops the "glory" zooms in and out. It gets smaller the farther from the top you are and larger the closer.

With the Sun at the right angle it appears that you are flying into as you reach the edge of a cloud in front of you.

Cran, I managed to snap this "glory" on a trip last January. Was neat to watch it raise and lower...Mike
