Vast international child-porn network uncovered

www.msnbc.msn.com

In all, 43 men have been arrested over the past two years in a horrific, far-flung child porn network that unraveled like a sweater with a single loose thread.
Authorities have identified more than 140 young victims so far and say there is no end in sight as they pore through hundreds of thousands of images found on the suspects' computers. They are also trying to determine whether the men who talked about murder and cannibalism actually committed such acts or were just sharing twisted fantasies

Apparently, the smoking gun in this case was one illicit photograph sent to an undercover agent. The photograph was not only broadcasted on America's Most Wanted, but sent to Interpol where an investigator identified a stuffed bunny present in the photograph as a famous character from a series of Dutch children's books.

I'm so glad they managed to catch these men before anymore children were harmed. It is disheartening to think that these are just the few individuals that got caught. How many more are out there who managed to slip by?

Was this an online network?

If so...I see this being used as justification for internet regulation...

What gets me is the fact that the police actually look through this stuff , shouldnt THAT officer be arrested for looking at child porn ?

Same as when killers are put to death , shouldnt the dude that kills the killer , be put to death too ?

Or when........... i`ll be quiet now

(ook TheJourney has changed his post so ill have to change mine now..)

Lets hope they dont try that , why should we all lose our internet freedoms because of a few sick minded people?

Internet regulations would drive the whole thing further underground and make it harder to detect and deal with these perverted criminals.

Too many to count, I'm sure.

Two things: There should be no trial for pedophiles. Make sure beyond a shadow of a doubt and by all means necessary that they did what they're accused of, then shoot them on site. Period.

Secondly, God bless Interpol. The smoking gun was a stuffed bear in a photo that is a popular character in a Dutch children's book? How random is that? If that's not excellent detective work, I don't know what is.

And it spreads much further than that..

Sigh.

ATS won't allow postings of such subject matter because they like to keep the site family friendly

I am very strongly against internet regulations...

What I mean is that they could USE THIS to try to justify regulation of the internet, which they already wanted to do anyways. "If you don't support regulating the internet, you support child abuse."

Make sure beyond a shadow of a doubt sort of sounds like a trial...

I really do think its despicable that people who rape and molest children are let out to re offend. And they always do.

S/F for the story!

Now I'm honestly not impressed with the super sleuthing they would seem to be highlighting by saying it all started from one photo sent by a pedo. I'm asking what the hell we're paying these idiots for when they can download one of a few different software programs, click connect and see that trash by the thousands and with post names next to each as a lead to REALLY go play sleuth on.

I'll say it's a start, when these stories become common to hear. That'll only mean they've started. When names we know in casual conversation are nailed, I'll even believe they might even be serious. When it's names people elected, then I'll feel the kids finally have some protection coming in the future.

Nice P.R. shot while they got a few of the monsters though.

I read about this earlier, I was absolutely amazed they were able to trace it all down due to a sweater and a bear (or rabbit or stuffed whatever) that's absolutely incredible..

@Whiterabbit (in response to one of your comments) a few years ago (like 2 now) a guy I worked with as a Social Worker was arrested in PA for child porn and in the same sting a guy I worked with at one of the local radio stations up here years ago was nailed, same sting...... that one hit home...

What gets me is the guy they arrested and his "fantasy" writing about eating children? That's not Child Porn, that's talking about Cannibalism, and that line is almost worse..........

And I call it gathering unbiased evidence. Unbiased in the sense that defenders can't pick and choose which types of evidence can or cannot be used based on technicalities. This is one of the main reasons why pedo's get released. They either did what they're accused of or they didn't. With the technical capabilities of law enforcement agencies around the world, it shouldn't be that hard to determine innocence or guilt, nor should it take that long.

With that in mind, the people gathering the evidence should not hold any personal feelings towards the accused. In other words, if the accused is a respected businessman in England, then the people doing the investigating should hail from somewhere else where they don't care personally or professionally who the accused is or what he does.

Again, unbiased.

That, and how much does a bullet cost?

As much as i hate these sick criminals i think they still should have a fair trial. You constantly see in Hollywood conspiracy films that people can be discredited and ruined by being accused of being a pedophile. That could become a reality if we didn't apply due process in the real world.

You are spot on Sinny!!! Look at the Jerry Sandusky trial at Penn State. Years before this our wonderful govenor of Pennsyvania was the attorney general and he burried the information as to this happening! It comes out, too much info to bury, so they they give up their sacrifice to protect their own evil asses!!! Sandusky was nothing more than a fall guy to protect the criminals in our own government! (Not that he wasn't guilty and a piece of garbage!)

I hear ya and the ... well.. Yeah, wow. Eating people is a sickness all it's own in any context, but like this?

I found a site with kids on it and on the open www. Years ago and when I was just starting to explore a bit. I didn't believe that stuff existed. Ahem... Oh how naive I was once. lol... I reported it like a good little citizen to the FBI and got a reply that maybe I shouldn't be looking at such sites myself because it broke the law.

Well.. peachy.. Okay.. I figured back then, they must be working something on it or maybe it was theirs to begin with for a sting. Whatever. Not my thing, on ANY level. The problem is....I made that report 3 Administrations ago, in political terms. That site is still there. Go figure...and that's about as far as my faith in this goes. I hope for the kid's sake, one of these "big raids" really is the start of a sweeping move against the evil.

Sounds like we're all near the same point in thinking.

This is especially important in countries where those guilty of pedophilia can be subject to chemical castration (example).

First of all, due process in America doesn't work. If it did, they would never be released back into the public.

Secondly, this isn't a Hollywood script. This is real life and real children being scarred for life. Call me a commie, but I'm going to put a child's well being before an adult's any day of the week. The technical capabilities of law enforcement work much better and are more thorough and precise than any court of law will ever be anymore. This isn't the 50's where they went more on here-say and had witch hunts. Forensics have evolved by leaps and bounds while the legal; system has remained stagnant. Sorry, but there is no such thing as a fair trial. Not so long as you have defenders finding legal technicalities and loopholes designed to give people like this a "fair" chance.

What the hell is fair about someone being found guilty of raping a 5 year old and getting out in 5 years? The fact that he had due process? Tell that to the 5 year old or their parents. You might be surprised at how "due process" is really enacted in cases like that.

The everybody's right to a fair trial is one of the cornerstones of democracy and should always be protected.

What you are presenting is a strawman argument that has no place in this discussion.

People who get turned on by children should all be executed.

This could be a positive in the population reduction scheme.
No fancy virus or other deadly disease with costly treatments.
Just a well placed bullet to the head.
