Ever thought French opposition to the removal of Saddam an act of moral courage?

Wrong WRONG WRONG!

www.guardian.co.uk...

"France and Russia were last night accused of accepting oil revenues from Saddam Hussein in expectation that they would use their influence on the UN security council to help Iraq, according to the Iraq Survey Group....."

All I needed to read was the Oil-for-food scandal and the BRIBES associated with it, here:
Anti-war nations 'took bribes' before war began.
Iraq, the U.N. and oil-for-food
POLITICS: U.N. Oil For Food Scandal Grows. Possibly the Largest in Human History.

'Nuff said about those "dirty deeds"....

The significance about the Survey Group report, however, is that it completely blows out of the water any arguments from those who supported the French opposition to the removal of Saddam.

Basically the whole of the anti-war position is based on lies. And if they had prevailed Saddam would now be redeveloping his WMD stockpiles to murder millions.

On that basis, the causualties suffered, while a terrible thing, are pale and insignficanct to the carnage that would have happened if the anti-war, pro France/Saddam legions had won.

Excellent information from the author of this thread and
the posters. France and Russia have the blood of Saddams
regime on their hands. THEY are the ones who really traded
blood for oil. It's in vogue to say America did, but it really
was France and Russia. Shame on them!!

Aren't you forgetting something?
US was one those who created Saddam's.
Especially US wanted counterpower for Iran.

Vice President Dick Cheney was, until last year, the CEO of Halliburton, the world’s largest oil field services company. Halliburton, through its European subsidiaries, sold spare parts to Iraq’s oil industry, despite U.N. sanctions.

E_T I think the point of all this is this: France really tried to play themselves as the moral alternative to US Imperialism. They beat that drum long and hard. Yet when we get down to brass tacks (im not sure what that phrase means but Granpa Fred used it all the time) they were not only profiting from the oil for food debacle, they were selling arms right up until the eve of the second Gulf war.

Frances oppostion to the war was financially smart. If France succeded in stopping the war money from Saddam would still be pouring into France. Too bad America had to wreck Frances illegal deals. Too bad.

FredT - you nailed it. Who will ever forget d' (e)Vilepan swaggering about carrying on like the most 'morally superior' being on the face of the planet.

The French were doing the 'we are the moral authority' all the while being on 'the take' from Saddam.

Their arrogant posturing was nauseating. (at least the Russians didn't pretend they were being moral about it)

Check my post on this thread I think it fully explains the time line on events that led up to war in Iraq

Whoa now we went from MWDs, Sadam brutal dictator, killer of hundreds of thousand, and now finally US is culminating his fiasco war with "he was selling Iraq to the Russians and Germans, hummm lets invade them now,

What a pitiful joke. So that is why we invaded Iraq and now thousands of Iraqis are death and over a thousand of our own soldiers are death also, yeah go tell that to the families of those death people and soldiers and then come back to US and tell the victims of 9/11 that we have not find yet bin-laden because we though that Sadam was selling Iraq to other than US and that is more important.

I find all these a lack of respect to the victims of 9/11 and to the people of this country.

sound pathetic and pitiful.

I didn't understand a word you just said Marg.
Can you reiterate that and speak clearly.

Margo you seem to be missing the real "threat" it was that Saddam had a massive amount of money that he bilked from the "Oil for Food" program and WAS buying weapons and WAS supporting Hamas and WAS involved with operatives of ALQ to what extent we do not know for sure.

SO in fact there WAS millions of dollars earned by other "countries" there was intent to deprive his own people of the benefits of the Oil for Food program and there WAS clear intent of his willingness to use those stolen funds to buy weapons that were deemed illegal for him to posses in accordance to the sanctions already impossed upon him by the UN.

The US just put a stop to all of this nonsense that Saddam was carrying on right under the UN nose because after all some "members" of the UN were on the take and would find it a reversal of fortune to mess with the golden spoon that they were given, should they provoke military action against Iraq.

Greedy, cowards who were only concerned amount their own pocket books and could care less about the people that were exposed to danger had Saddam remained in power.

You know what is the pitiful truth now that the war on Iraq was actually build on lies we are doing anything we can to justify the fiasco, lets blame the French for taking cash and lets bring Sadams state of mind as to thinking about getting MWDs and lets forget the real threats on the world and lets beat each other with the Sadam's (may have and could have and was thinking of ) and lets forget that American companies where involved also. Anything to save the king George.

Now while dig into Sadam's brain to justify the war, the Al-queda and bin-laden are around doing their thing. Really, the priority of our government worries me all the time.

Perhaps we should take Sadams brain and dissect it, may be we will find exactly what he was thinking about.

By the way Robertenix is no Margo is Margarita that is my middle name.
