I'm out of words!!! Having a major political party come out and openly state they don't want their citizens to think critically is...well....BAT# INSANE!!!

The US citizens are being dumbed down on purpose, first by the media, and now by an entire political party who has it as a main point in their agenda.

Most right wing people cannot tell you what socialism, communism or fascism means yet argue against it vehemently. They don't seem to want to think critically themselves.

Just go look at any Obamacare thread, you'll see a bunch of uneducated right wingers calling it socialism. Breibart says it so it must be true, right?

Couldn't agree more. All this bitching about the individual mandate is crazy for example. That part of the bill was actually a RIGHTWING idea promoted by the Heritage Foundation. Obama changed NOTHING about it (something I hate btw) and simply copied their idea. Once he did, the GOP made a 180 turn and suddenly called it socialism.

Of course most don't know because they are being DUMBED DOWN by the media (Fox "News") and now an entire party being against logic/rationality and critical thinking.

I'm really disgusted...

Between the text book issue in Texas your post and any number of other issues relating to education i think its fair to say this is not just a left right issue but rather a national issue of the progressives in our government on both side of the aisles attempting to dumb down the American public.

I'm afraid it may be working on you as well sir. The democrats want ignorant supporters too. Research and critical thinking should lead you to the fact that they are one in the same. Just playing us on different issues.

For anyone to blame one political party over the other towards the "Dumbing Down" of Americans shows who has actually been dumbed down!!!

I can't read a single thread about the GOP without quoting this video; I'm sorry, but I just can't.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please rise for the anthem of the American Republican Party."

This is why playing the middle, no party, game is so nice. Republicans and Democrats both do stupid things and I don't need to defend either one with rhetoric.

Doesn't matter who does it...but I challenge you to find the Democrats saying they want to hinder critical thinking as openly as the GOP

Political parties dumb people down in the same way religion does. It puts a voter on a set path, tells them that they should believe a particular set of ideas and that any other ideas are wrong. Parties allow for political "celebrities" to be born, which makes creating a cult of personality very easy. It reinforces the US. vs THEM mentality.

This is why I'm non-partisan and believe a mixture of ideas from the left and right. I wish more people on ATS did not conform to the social construct of what a "left and right" person should believe.

Agreed! People seem to have a need to belong to a team, versus thinking for themselves and standing up for what they believe in!!

What ?
No way!
Seriously?

That'd be like telling us that Obama care was really legislation
started by Republicans and they were all for it until Obama said he was.
Like that kinda dumbed down?
www.youtube.com...

Or my current favorite " If Obama Care passes I'm moving to Canada!"

Romneys healthcare bill that he signed as Governor of Massachusetts is extremely similar to Obamacare, is he not a republican?

en.wikipedia.org...

Here's a bunch of repubs talking about their idea of healthcare reform.......which is just like Obamacare!

Challenge accepted. Read this and tell me that these democrats are thinking critically.
Is Obama the Messiah?
Obviously they are not thinking critically and obviously they want everyone to be
caught up in brain dead O-Bot fever just like them.

Dude, face it ... there are yutz's in both the republican and democratic parties.

We brainwash children every school day by nearly forcing them to pledge allegiance to a flag. I find it shocking that Americans condone Soviet and North Korean conditioning techniques "forced" upon kids by the state as young as age 5.

I'm confused, wouldn't that be like trying to tenderize hamburger meat? I mean really, how do you go about "dumbing down" the purest expression of ignorance ever seen in american politics?

You and me both. People let two political parties dictate how they view the world. I find it hard to believe most agree with 100 percent of what their parties do. If we had more non partisan people we could look at the issues and judge them accordingly. It should be how you personally feel, not how a party tells you to feel. .

Is there some contextual links to go with this? This seems pretty ridiculously stupid even by Republican standards.
