russia shot down a u2 spy plane flown by francsis Gary powers to the best of my knowledge a sr71 black bird has never been shot down in combat or even engaged successfully (they fly faster then most missles and higher then most fighters) think the best they got was a few missile locks and then the pilot floored it hell i dont even know if we ever crashed one

Why? If the plane was shot down over Syrian airspace then they had the right to shoot it down. A foreign country needs permission to fly their planes over a nations territory, if they don't seek that permission then it gets shot down and they are classed as the aggressors

Its why there wasn't a war when Iran shot a drone down, or when Russia shot down a blackbird, they shouldn't of been there in the first place.

and Turkey has stated that it is aiding the terrorists trying to overthrow the Syrain government.......

The US along with Turkey, Isreal and Saudi Arabia have been in a proxy war with Syria using the rebels as cannon fodder to start a larger war.....

The US may be only required to supply anti air, and anti armour missiles because everyone else is sending guns, and money.......

I know it is a conspiracy thread, but a Blackbird 'SR-71'. Even Russia doesn't claim anything like that!

A blackbird has never been shot down before that is one of its claims to fame.

The Russians shot down a U2 if I remember my history correctly.

Thus far all media outlets are reporting an internal meeting of Turkey's military. I havent seen anything about a mtg between Turkey and its NATO counterparts.

I'm starting to think that maybe NATO sacrificed an aging F4 "Wild Weasel" to sniff out Syrian Air defense capabilities considering the possibilities of a NATO unforced No Fly zone and wanted to gain data on the Russian S300's SAM system in order to figure out how to defeat them.

And, if I might speculate further, these S300 batteries are manned by Syrians as well as Russians. What would be the implication of Russians helping Syrians shoot down a NATO aircraft?

And furthermore, how would Russia deal with a NATO air campaign killing Russian nationals on the ground in Syria?

That's fine except it wasn't an attack, Syria was defending its airspace.

Still havent seen anything about Turkey meeting with NATO right now.

Turkey's ruling party deputy says if the Turkish fighter jet was downed by Syria, it is clearly a "declaration of war."
