Jewish settler immigrants from North America have attacked and severely beat American Christian peace volunteers near the village of Yatta south west of Hebron.

    Jewish settlers attack US Christians
    Aljazeera.net

Palestinian and Israeli sources said the attack occurred on Wednesday.

According to the Hebron-based Christian Peace Making Team (CPT), five settlers carrying iron chains and baseball clubs, assaulted two male and female volunteers who were escorting Palestinian schoolchildren to their school at the village of Tuba near the settlement of Maon in the southern Hebron hills.

The assailants reportedly beat the two volunteers and robbed them. The pair were evacuated by an Israeli ambulance to a hospital in the southern Israeli town of Be'ir Sheva were their condition is said to be moderate.

The assailants also stole a bag belonging to a female volunteer named Kim Lamberty. The bag contained a passport, money and a cellular phone. It is not clear if the settlers had wanted to attack Palestinian schoolchildren who fled to their homes.

    Volunteers severly beaten
CPT spokesperson in Hebron, Cal Carpenter told Aljazeera.net that one of the volunteers had a collapsed lung while a woman volunteer had sustained cuts and bruises.

Asked why he thought the settlers assaulted his colleagues, Carpenter said the settlers "didn't like what we were doing, namely escorting Palestinian kids to their schools."

"They apparently were unhappy to see us stand by the kids whom the settlers want to abuse they thought that we were frustrating their efforts."

Carpenter said the CPT volunteers wouldn't be intimidated by the Jewish settlers "savagery."

"We will go to the village tomorrow and we will escort the kids to their school."

According to Palestinian locals, the settlers in the area despise the Christian activists for "helping the Palestinians stay in the area."

    'Disrupting efforts'
"The settlers believe the Christians are disrupting their efforts to get the Palestinians to leave the area," one local told Aljazeera.net.

The incident came less than 48 hours after a Jewish settler from a settlement near the Northern West Bank town of Nablus murdered a Palestinian driver and father of eight children.

The settler, however, has been freed from police custody and placed under temporary house arrest.

The Israeli army, in concert with settler leaders in the area, have been trying to expel several hundred Palestinian families from the area for the purpose of expanding the settlement of Maon.

Two years ago, the army destroyed hundreds of caves and many cisterns belonging to Palestinians in order to force them to leave.

Relations between the settlers and the Christian volunteers have never been good.

Jewish settlers, indoctrinated by a staunchly anti-Christian ideology, routinely throw rocks and shout obscenities at the volunteers.

The two are members of Christian Peacemaker Teams - a group that monitors conflict between Israelis and Palestinians in the Hebron area. Whilst recovering in an Israeli hospital in Beersheba, Chris Brown told BBC News Online it had been "was an ambush - a premeditated attack". "They threw a stone at my head which knocked me over and then whipped me with chains," Mr Brown said. He said that Ms Lamberty had her passport, mobile phone and money stolen by the settlers. He also said that harassment of Christian volunteers working with Palestinians in the area is common. "They normally throw stones at us or fire their guns over our heads - but this is the most vicious assault so far."

"We saw them come down from the Maon ranch," said Lamberty released from Hospital Wednesday afternoon, "the children fled screaming but they let them go. This [attack] was clearly planned. Chris and I both started to run. They caught me quickly, choked me, threw me to the ground and then beat me," she said. Brown received a more severe pummeling and will remain in hospital for several more days.

Holy Toledo....coming from Aljazeera, man...I know its 'gospel'...

Are/Is there not still historical tensions/strife at play...?
Comparing and then placing yours and others cultural views and beliefs upon another person(s) who do not or who are not of your culture, nor see things from your cultrual perspective is disturbing.

I may not agree with the actions of some, but then again, I am not of their cultural persuasion nor am I living in their culture.

Read this from the article:

Relations between the settlers and the Christian volunteers have never been good.

Question:
If one knows this (ie: the Christian volunteers), is it safe to assume that one/theymust also be prepared for the worst, if it were to happen (ie: as it is described in the article)? That while area is a virtual limited war zone, with religious and cultural hatreds, tensions, problems underlying nearly every motivation that takes place there....violence, be it to an American Christian, a Christian in general, a Muslim, a Jew, etc. seems to have been the 'norm' for how long?

We don't like it in Aljazeera flavor do we? No problem, here its as in pure news from the Christian Peacemaker Teams's web site

HEBRON DISTRICT: CPTers attacked and badly injured by settlers in the south Hebron hills
      www.cpt.org...
At about 7:15am on the morning of Wednesday September 29, 2004, settlers attacked Christian Peacemaker Team members Chris Brown and Kim Lamberty as they accompanied children to school. The children, from the village of Tuba, have experienced harassment from settlers in the past as they to school in the village of al-Tuwani.

The five settlers, dressed in black and wearing masks, came from an outpost of the nearby Ma'on settlement and attacked Brown and Lamberty with a chain and bat. All of the children escaped injury by running back to their homes.

The settlers pushed Brown to the ground, whipped him with a chain and kicked him in the chest, which punctured his lung. They kicked and beat Lamberty's legs. She is not able to walk because of an injury to her knee and has a broken arm. The settlers also stole Lamberty's waistpack, which held her passport, money and cellular phone.

Lamberty and Brown were taken by ambulance to Soroka hospital in Beer Sheva for treatment. Hebron Team Support person, Rich Meyer, reports that the two CPTers told him they are receiving excellent care from Israeli doctors.

CPTer Peggy Gish recounts as her personal story the moving experiences of CPT in Iraq before, during and after war.

Children from four small Palestinian villages walk to a central school in the village of al-Tuwani. Because settlers have harassed the children since school began in September, and the Israeli police would not intervene to prevent the attacks, the villagers have sought the protection of international accompaniment. A coalition comprising Christian Peacemaker Teams, the Israeli group Tayush and members of Operation Dove, (an Italian Christian organization that undertakes accompaniment work similar to CPT's work), set up a presence in the village of al-Tuwani beginning on September 12, 2004. The three groups initially committed themselves to six weeks of accompaniment after members of these organizations witnessed settler attacks on children each time they made exploratory visits to the area.

Christian Peacemaker Teams, Operation Dove and Tayush plan to continue accompanying children to school in al-Tuwani.

Journalists wishing more information may call Hebron Team Support person Rich Meyer at 574-202 3920.

I'll bet you're jumping for joy now, even though you hate the Jews too.

It's your dream that all Jews and Christians die anyway.

I'll bet you were so happy trying to report this, you couldn't hardly type.

And the news agencies should be criticised for reporting them as such.

They are terrorist supporters who directly intervene when Israelis seek to arrest children and adults who commit crimes. They are criminals and accessories for criminals.

Whenever the UDF kill one of these terrorist supporters I feel that it is their own fault.

Death to terrorism
Death to Arafat

Supporting terrorists by walking little kids to school?

They were unarmed, and one was a female. It seems the terrorists in this attack were the settlers. Tough guys, beating up a woman and weaponless man.

There are numerous incidences of these so called "peacemakers" who go and stand among child terrorists who are attacking the IDF in order to "protect" them.

Just goes to show that (gasp!) maybe the Israelis really aren't the bastion of hope and humanity in the Middle East.

Some of them might even be total bastards.

Like, you know, the rest of the world.

Oh my, does that make me an Anti-Semite? A self-hating Jew?

Seems to me you're the one who's deluded here.

Why the F*** are we supporting Israel to the extent we are?

Could someone explain that to me?

The Israelis and the Palestinians can have each other. It is not our fight.

Can you provide the proof please, that CPT members are involved in terrorist activities against Israel? You keep calling them terrorists and "so-called peacemakers". All I see are people trying to help children walk to school.

Volunteer workers being called terrorists by Israeli standards? Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black.

Palestinian parents, only too happy to sacrifice their children for the intefeda send them out to throw rocks at tanks, knowing full well that the Israels will fire at them - Israel makes no secret of this - it is a known fact - I know it you know it - throw at rock at an Israeli tank and you are likely to get a bullet in your a$$.

So given that very clear situation why do these so called "parents" (they are not fit to be parents they are the lowest and vilest people on this earth) then allow their kids to go out and throw rocks.

Don't forget they may throw rocks at 12 by 16 they are throwing grenades or strapping on semtex so they can go and kill other children.

And these so called "peacemakers" - they protect them! Protect 12 year old proto-terrorists so they can become fully fledged terrorists. Their actions are little short of terrorism. When Israel shows contempt for them when they get caught in the line of fire I am glad - it is the right thing to do.

And for you (and more importantly) the media to label them "peacemakers" is obscene - they are anything but peacemakers.

I saw a documentary on an Israeli Jew who changed his ID and lived as a Palestinian for a year. He wrote a book about his experiences. It really gave an eye-opening view to how things are over there.

I'll try to find a link.

If the Muslims stop committing acts of terror in Israel they can get a deal and return to some form of normality.

If they carry on committing acts of terror - they will die in far greater numbers than the Israelis - that is the choice pure and simple.

But these Muslims are, I think, genetically predisposed to barbarism and terror - not just against infidel but also against themselves. If they achieved their aim of killing all the non-Muslims in the world they would then have no one to kill so would start on themselves.

In that case the Israelis are genetically predisposed to being arrogant pricks who think they are God's chosen people, and that they can push whoever they like around.

Alas, I agree. A few years back I was in Java and the driver of our taxi was pointing out landmarks along the hour or so ride to our hotel. Here's where all the dutch are buried. The muslims didn't like them being here. Here's the chinese burial area. Too much business competition. It went of for a while.

The three weeks I was in indonesia, on one of the many islands of that nation, there was a huge war going on between two muslim sects. Murders in the streets and not just one or two. they were killing eachother left and right.

Hard line muslims believe that killing an infidel (someone who isn't like you - very rascist) or dying over a religous cause (there are no other causes) will lead them to heaven so they have no problems killing or being killed. This is how they are taught, from an early age. To stop the terror, you can't give them land. You need to teach them. Give them proper educations. Sending your kid to a mosque for an education is like sending your kid to the Koresh School for wayward children.
