I said this years ago and so did others but were all disbelieved due to "the stuck in a mental rut we know everything crowd".

They said it was caused by "genetics" ,a cover all bogeyman.

It seems i was right again.

Many Cancer are caused by bacteria, viruses and parasites.

This mean you can literally catch cancer from a cancer victim.

There are many documented cases where relative/carers/nurses,etc of cancer victims also got the same cancer but this was blamed on "genetics".

Now new research indicates i was right all along.

Scientists have admitted that cancers are caused by pathogens.

Pathogens are transmissible.

"Infections with certain viruses, bacteria, and parasites are one of the biggest and preventable causes of cancer worldwide,” lead authors Catherine de Martel and Martyn Plummer from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), France, said in a statement.

Am I missing a link that actually backs up your claim? Where did it say cancer is contagious?

Cancer is not contagious. Infections that can cause cancer are contagious.

Your headline is very misleading.

My apologies for clicking on the wrong Reply button.

is fox trying to start a war on cancer patients?
alienating them from society?

Wow OP, such a stupid sensational headline. It should read

"1 in 6 cancers worldwide caused by infections that can be prevented or treated"

Did you even read your own source?
Nowhere in it does it say "cancer is contagious"

Face palm

In my opinion the report at Fox sounds more like an ad for the HPV vaccination and not like a scientific report. They didn't even mention that there are know (deadly) side effects if you take the HPV vaccination.

Why don't they us / give us some advice how to prevent an infection. Nearly every sentence tells me that I need a vaccination against it.

I don't by this report and think it's just a clever ad to sell more vaccination (as people here don't take it anymore due to the real bad side effects).

I also have to wonder if Catherine de Martel knows what she is doing. According to the article linked above:

Four main infections account for 1.9 million of these types of cancer cases, including human papillomaviruses (HPV), Helicobacter pylori, and hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C viruses (HCV).
(Emphasis mine)

Just a few years ago Catherine de Martel together with other scientists came to this result in her study:

Conclusion: Our results suggest that H. pylori infection is not associated with development of pancreatic cancer. (Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers Prev 2008;17(5):1188–94)

And there is not much new here (except for some numbers) it has been known for a long time that hepatitides can create cancers... And so known for a long time that cancer is not soley a genetic illness.

Right. And smoking never caused lung cancer. Must have been whoever packaged them right? Cancer is caused by a mutated cell that goes rogue. Radiation is the number one cause. Genetics are a small factor. Blaming the cold war for nuclear tests makes more sense because we all are exposed to background radiation thanks to them. Some viruses CAN lead to cancer like hpv causing cervical cancer but its a minority of cancer cases and hpv doesn't always cause cancer either. Trust the health professions on this one. They will all tell you this.

Cancer is contagious because pathogens are contagious.

you have cancer z due to bacteria x and then bacteria x infects patient w who then gets cancer z.

hence cancer is contagious.

do you understand.

this also explains why cancer has become a epidemic because it is contagious.

...pretty sure the article in question isn't full of crap.

Regardless, the OP made a bad choice as a title.

Cervical cancer for instance

i forgot but i think there's a statistic that like half of female teens and adults have HPV

and all of them got it from unprotected sex

that's ALOT of unprotected sex or fornication going on!

no wonder organizations are pushing "immunizations" that way when u do eventually have unprotected sex that's one less disease to contract - and maybe two since HPV and cervical cancer are highly correlated.

The thread title is misleading but 1 in 6 isn't anything to scoff at either. Makes an excellent case to point out Wash your hands frequently especially if your hanging out with someone who's immune system isn't great at the moment.

I think most people who star and flag insane threads like this one read only the headline.

If this is true then it isn't actually the Cancer that is contagious. It's the cause of the Cancer that can spread. Cancer itself can't actually be contagious due to the nature of the disease.

Edit: Sorry, just realized someone pointed this out.
