Russia can talk all it wants to but they do not possess the ability to take on the USA and/or any of it's allies.

They are regional at this point-at best. If Putin strays too far, the people at home may take the opportunity to overthrow his administration. In other words, the Russia of today is not the Russia of the 60-80's.

They do possess the ability to take on the West with the alliance China and other bunch of there own allies, that war wont easy as WW2 was.

Russia and China are updating there military units and tech.

Hopefully this is all saber-rattling, and lots of back-room discussions are occuring with the Russians involved. And if worse comes to the world again with the power-mongers sitting there like Cheney, strange hearts beating in their chest and odd words coming out of their mouths, maybe a few small strikes at abandoned plants will pacify them.

Neither does the US.

The US is currently in every corner of the world, and although people see that as power (and it is), it also means that the military resources and personnel is rather dispersed, which means that there are a lot of areas vulnerable to a serious attack, if the decision to attack is made.

War capability isn't set by the power you have now, but by the power you can achieve in a small time span, and that is good for the Russians and bad for the US. For instance, prior to WW2 the US military was nearly a joke. Outdated and inefficient, especially when compared with military forces like the Nazi Germany.

You can see Russia today as the US back then, and you can see the US of today like the Nazi Germany back then. I'm not talking about political or social views, just about military power/capability.

The Nazi Germany was developed, state of the art, experienced and was dominating the world theater, albeit with "some" Allied resistance.

It wasn't until the US entry in the war that the US military started to grow. The US economy and government went into "war state", and the industry was given orders to work for the production of military warfare. That "war mode" creates a cycle that enables a country to get financially better. The amount of jobs increases very rapidly and everyone has something to do, either in the military, or in places related to the "war effort".

The US military, which was a joke compared to the "Axis of Evil" at the time, defeated both the best and bigger armed forces in WW2 (Germany and Japan), by using clever tactics and a well planed war effort.

That is a reason to be proud, but also a reason to be afraid, because the Russians did exactly the same thing, and could do it again today. If people think Russia is in a bad state today, they should research at how bad it was prior to WW2. Half Russia was lost to the Germans by the time the Soviets decided it was time to push them back. They allowed the Germans to get inside Russia, allowed them to get stuck in territories that had no roads (because they were so behind time in development), no facilities and the "burned ground" philosophy meant that not even food was available to the germans in the front lines.

The Soviets then started to develop their own military. And they didn't made a huge effort into it. They made a bet on numbers, and on efficiency rather than quality. Ratios that were as ridiculous as to 30:1.

The Nazi Germany lost battles to the soviets just because they ran out of troops, although they were wiping out russians by the hundreds. Other factors like weather and terrain were also very important. Factors that could play against the US today, if the worst happened.

And this isn't a scenario that has happened just in WW2. It's all over war history, from the Persian empire, to the roman and everyone else in between.

Which is not necessarily a bad thing, like I said. The US military is stretch all over the globe, while the russians don't have to keep that effort. They just cruise around now and then, and don't have to keep a foreign effort within their military.

And again, that can change very rapidly.

Although people disliked the way Putin has been doing things, it is also very common to see supporters to his power. It's almost like the scenario you see in the US. There are people agains the current US government and it's ideals. Everyday we see that in here.

So why do you think the same wouldn't happen in Russia with Putin? People do like what he did recently for the russian people.

In other words, the Russia of today is not the Russia of the 60-80's.

During the 50's, 60's and even 70's, the URSS was as strong as the US. It was only as recently as the 80's and 90's that Russia started to fall, mostly due to internal political collapse. The chaos within made the russian economy go even further down.

But that has changed. The Russia Federation of today is growing and getting healthier and wealthier, not falling.

I will support a peoples legitimately chosen governance of a sovereign nation to try IN COURT 12 people on charges quite similar to those of sedition (which is also a crime in other countries) I have thoroughly explained all this in another thread and any mention is quite off topic for this thread. You'll find that there are plenty of sites out there that the Israeli regime watches. When there is any sensible or critical argument against Israel they attack, usually within seconds, calling the person an anti-Semite or Nazi. It's common practice.

Even if you point out something factual, with evidence. Simply stating that Israel has refused to allow its Nukes to be inspected and its capabilities recognize (which is factually correct) they call you a Nazi.

Remember, this is a regime that lies in the face of the international community. Even live on air, while illegal weapons were being dropped on Gaza and it was being broadcast all over the world, their spokesman was saying it wasn't happening. You could literally see it happening live, millions of people were watching it, and he was in front of the cameras saying it simply wasn't happening.

Then there was the live footage of reporters being silenced in news conferences. Their mics were being switched off. Again, this was denied, even though hundreds of reporters stated that it was happening.

They will blindly defend their position no matter how much common sense and evidence you throw at them. They'll resort to all kinds of accusations and slurs to get you to back down.

As for the reports, this is nothing but bluster and propaganda for the Israeli people. The government wants to look strong, and it's a nice little distraction from what they're going to their neighbors too. While they're scaring the crap out of their people and telling them they will be attacked and have to defend themselves, the people will give them the permission to do whatever they like.
