I would rather everybody take responsibility for their own actions or lack of actions. Sometimes, people need help. That is what churches, families and communities are for. That is why charities exist. It is not the proper function of the federal government. When people NEED help, PEOPLE should help them. Bureaucracies only make things worse and waste more than gets properly used. Government is never the answer to social issues.

Um, Government of the people, for the people, and by the people???

You've got the whole purpose of government wrong. It is for social issues. It is FOR the People.

It is not for the benefit of Corporations, which have been running the show for awhile now, like a wolf in a hen house....but I know you won't understand what I'm saying because it's clear your conditioning has been very thorough. You actually believe what you are saying!

Scary. And sad.

Fix that problem first.

Exactly.

People seem to ignore that problem and think it is easy these days for all the unemployed to have jobs tomorrow if they only wanted one.

I know people who had a job and now don't, due to the way things have gone, they want one and try hard to find them, they have experience and skills to offer, but find themselves competing with hundreds of other people for one position.

More than likely some of the other applicant's have the same or better experience and skills and employers have a wealth of choice of possible employee's to employ due to the number of jobs being lost in recent times.

And then people expect single mothers, many of whom where left in a mess (maybe their own fault, maybe not) many of whom are either young or have no skills and experience and probably have never worked due to looking after a baby they were left with by some looser, to just walk into a job no problems and if they don't it is because they don't want to work.

ain't going to happen very often in this climate, they need education, qualifications and skills than can be applied in a work environment or there needs to be a lot more job creation so that the unskilled are given more chance to stand out in the application process due to the very skilled and qualified all mostly being back in employment again.

I think it would be best to give any given parent 6 months to find a job after their children reach preschool age then cut welfare and then the state would have to pay less for daycare seeing as it would only be seasonal. Welfare is the symptom not the problem. Maybe start a single mother work force some are paid to watch the children then employ the rest of them to clean sidewalks or something idk

You don't know anything about American history. Taxes have been cut and cut and cut again since America's first spokesmodel president took office and way-laid us with his brand of "aw shucks" fake conservative double-speak over 40 years ago. The market wants what the market wants, and taxes are at historic lows at this point. That the market wants even more is a sure sign to anyone with a functioning fore-brain that Baal will never be satisfied until he eats our children too.

By the way -- all of the Food Stamps and social programs in the entire nation add up to about 10% what we spend on our military. There's your true "entitlement" program, backed by threat of "force."

Yeah, nothing like seperating mother from child, how they love to do that.
Stay home with your child, that's fine. Just say NO to stealing from the taxpayers.

Exactly my point too. Stay at home if you want, but stop buying all those fancy toys and televisions and cellular phones so you can afford to feed your child instead of asking the hard working Americans to do it while you hang out and do drugs on the taxpayer dime.

If this is what you think or anyone else thinks of single mothers in America or elsewhere then you are doing no favors in making single mothers an employable section of society, lets hope most employers don't think like that or just being a single mother will go against you when applying for work as it will come with lots of stereo types created by those moaning single mothers don't work, which ironically will create a barrier for them finding work as they have to overcome the image created for them by other people when applying for work.

Once upon a time, I had welfare, and I had a job.

True story.

If you're going to pay for the daycare, then, yeah, maybe we can start talking about work requirements and such actually being reasonable.

Of course, one of the easiest ways to get a lot of these "welfare queens" off of welfare (or at least reduce their aid) would be to crack down on the deadbeat dads a lot of them probably have.

Hey.....

Didn't all you right wingers have a fit when someone said Mitt's wife never worked a day in her life?

I THINK I HEARD ALL YOU ROMNEY SUPPORTERS SAYBEING MOM IS A JOB!

Sure there is dignity in work but as Mitt's wife said being a mother is one of the most important jobs!
WHY DIDN'T MITT'S WIFE WORK? DIDN'T HE THINK IT WAS IMPORTANT FOR HER TO HAVE "DIGNITY"

if i had a say, and taxes are mandatory under the threat of prison, i would rather have my taxes go to welfare moms, the poor and the sick.

instead of where it goes now: $700 billion to thieving banks, bankers and wall street executives, $1 million so panetta can fly to his house in cali every month, hundreds of thousands so senators, congressmen and the president can entertain themselves and their elitist friends, secret service protection for that tool that made that ignorant remark, romney, he's just a private citizen like everyone else, and lets not forget the $70,000 toilets the pentagon is so fond of buying.

or the $2 trillion rumsfeld is still looking for.

is romney completely heartless or completely clueless.

if he thinks its dignified for a single mom to go work for minimum wage while her paycheck goes to pay a babysitter and her child is raised by strangers, he needs a lesson in humility and compassion.

these are the people leading your country. if you wonder why america is crumbling, look no further than these people and their supporters.

and by supporters i mean envious and petty jackals and piranhas who will do their bidding to have a piece of meat thrown to them.

She doesn't have to got work if her husband pays her bills.....how confusing is that.

But you don't have that luxury if you don't have the money and your kids shouldn't be supported by the taxpayers.

how do you people not understand the difference between mitts wife staying home, because he makes enough to support them both, and a person who stays home while receiving benefits from the government?

mitts wife cost are paid for by mitt, because you know, he works, and can afford to have her not work. she is only taking handouts from her husband.

the welfare moms cost are paid for by ME, because i pay taxes. every time i go out and work, she is taking a handout from ME. i dont know her, and i probably dont want to know her. but i have to help support her for some reason, whatever it may be.

you libs are just insane. truly insane how you cant recognize the most simple of principals, concepts or ideas.

also, NOW youre so concerned about mothers being with their children?? Now its so important that a mother and child be separated under NO circumstances? even if it is to go into the work place and be a more productive member of society who isnt supported solely by others? and mitt was trying to pay for the daycare so the mothers could work. pretty good bargain there if you ask me.

so then its agreed, abortions are bad? alright, good! progress. i mean, talk about separating mother from child right?

What he is saying is work for the government with the welfare check as their paycheck....not just sitting on the couch while hardworking taxpayers cover their arse.

I thought you all thought it was a great idea when Clinton did welfare to work?

Why do people think just because they were born, somebody owes them a living or anything else?

It always seems to be the same mindset that believes in evolution and Darwinism turns a blind eye to survival of the fittest.

I know that is harsh, but enough is enough...if you want social programs and prizes bestowed on you because mother nature stuck you here then go to a socialist country...don't make America into one.

Charity should be charitable, not forced.....churches, not for profits, organizations.......
Not the government with my money....I will donate when and where I want to.

As long as welfare exists, I want my money's worth....clean the streets, work in a school as a monitor, there are tons of things they can do.

Have you read the same constitution I have?

The government is supposed to protect and defend period....that does not mean to SUPPLY your live liberty and pursuit of happiness......did you learn that in school?

This country can spend BILLIONS of dollars on war, but by God, don't you DARE ask for help feeding children in THIS country. NO. Let's keep pumping money into the war machine so we can kill other people's families over in other countries. To hell with this country, and whatever people need. Eliminate welfare, keep making bombs. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Spoken like a true human being. My hope in humanity is restored. I feel exactly the same way.

I came into this world with nothing, I will leave with nothing. Let me be of some help to someone else along the way. I have plenty, let me give something.

That's how I see it.

[color=gold]This is one topic where Republicans are 100% CORRECT!!!!

We NEED to get people OFF welfare. It should only be a TEMPORARY SOLUTION. Way too many are using it as a LIFETIME VACATION!!!

edit on 15-4-2012 by HangTheTraitors because: (no reason given)

Lifetime vacation? Huh? In the state of Montana you can only take welfare for a period of 3 years. That's it. No more. Does not matter how many children you have. You can get it 3 years and you are cut off.

Also, you HAVE to prove you are actively seeking and obtaining employment, if you are not disabled. If you do not abide by this, you cannot keep getting SNAP benefits.
