DON'T POST SPOILERS. This is an awesome movie and it's made better the less you know about it.

This is the best movie I've seen in awhile in theaters. It's now up there as one of my favorite horror movies. I don't want to say much about it, but I will say that it is hilarious, creative and well written. If you're a horror movie fan you'll especially love it. And if your tastes run toward Evil Dead and you've seen a Japanese horror movie or two it'll be even better.

I just wanted to pass the word. The guy I saw it with said he had seen the trailer and it didn't even begin to hint at the greatness.

Oh, and it's co-wrote and produced by Joss Whedon of Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dollhouse fame.

Thanks for the heads up, I didn't think much of the trailer....mainly because I see it alllll the time and I tend to be wary of what seems like a sensationalized movie trailer. Guess my intuition was wrong

It was a good one, for sure! I also wondered if too much was shown in the trailers, but, that was not the case at all, once I watched the entire movie. As is usual during a matinee showing on a weekday when school is in session, there were only a handful of us in the theater. We all laughed out loud at times during the movie. And we weren't laughing because of corny special effects or poor acting. We were laughing because it was absolutely entertaining and fun as well as a great script and plot.

Do you really have to make a new thread for everything ?

There's a horror movies thread a few threads down, why not post in that one instead of making a new thread for every single movie you watch ?

This board needs either more, or better moderators, seriously.

Aw, I'm sorry I didn't post this in YOUR thread, buddy. I still can if it wouldn't feel like it was cheapened. You see, instead of posting in your generic thread where people might not see it, I made this thread. I really enjoyed this movie and it's pretty unique, but people don't really get that idea from the trailer or the advertising. So, I figured I'd let people who might be on the fence about seeing it know that they should and they should before it gets spoiled for them.

I have a SUPER bad habit of finding enjoyment in recommending things to people and having them recommend me things.

By the way, if you would've taken, hold on, let me time myself. For the purposes of Science, I'll start from a new tab where I type in www.abovetopsecret.com. Okay, if you would've taken about 12 seconds to search for "horror movies" you would've gotten over 5,000 results! Sure, the threads are old, but why make your own when you could've gotten information from those threads or bumped them? You've got topics like "Best horror movies" "Horror movie recommendations" "What is your favorite horror movie?"

Oh, and I'm aware there's another "Cabin in the Woods" thread, but that's in General Chit Chat, which seems like an odd place to post about movies. When I want to read or talk about movies, I come to the movie board, so I posted this one here.

So, there you go.

Your intuition wasn't wrong, I don't think. Part of the movie's...trick, I guess, is how generic is seems. How many horror movies are there with the word "Cabin" in the title? How many are set in cabins in the woods? It's a nice move, because it keeps the surprises of the movie, but, like you said, it might turn off some people who feel like they've seen it 1,000 times.

A movie review deserves it's own thread. It just makes sense, and it's helpful for other users,, looking for opinions of specific movies.
There's also room for General threads on different genres of movies. That's great for movie buffs, who like to talk about many movies in a more conversational tone.

It's the "Off topic/movies Thread" designed to chat about movies, threads made solely to discuss one movie are perfectly fine, because "Off topic/Movies".
If he had put this in YOUR thread I would have never seen it.

OT: I have some interest in this film, from the trailers I was getting the impression it was gonna be like "The Killing Room" also a good one if you haven't seen it.

But yes, no spoilers please, glad it has promise.

I don't know how old the "kids" are, but it is an R-rated movie. Just a warning. There's quite a lot of blood and a little bit of nudity. If everyone's okay with that, I'd say it's worth it in the theater. It's kind of Shaun of the Dead-ish. Really funny and clever, but it has the blood of a straight horror movie.

Oh I'm sorry, you think MY thread is generic ? And yours definitely isn't ?

Posting a thread about ONE movie is about as generic as it gets. And it keeps the flood of crap flowing, so unless you wanna contribute to that, stop making thread for every single event in your life.

Definitely been looking forward to this since I first heard about it. I haven't seen it yet but the early reviews I have read for it make it sound like it's just down my alley. It's about time horror movies started moving away from torture porn and back towards a style more akin to Sam Raimi.

Also, thanks for making a separate thread for this. If you had posted in the other thread I would not have seen our review.

Just wanted to say sorry to SaulGoodman. I just read my post again and had time to reflect about it, and I think I kinda crossed the line.

You seem like a nice guy, and again, sorry for coming across the way I did. I regret what I wrote in my last post. Unfortunately I can't take it away, hope you can forgive me though.

It's all right, ZikhaN, and thanks for the apology. I was a little snarky in my reply too. We all get annoyed with stuff, I'm sorry I set you off. I looked at some of your other posts and you seem like a nice guy, too. We'll forget it ever happened.

And I do think you'll like Cabin in the Woods when it gets to Sweden. You seem like the kind of horror fan this was made for.

I think that I am one of the few people who kind of expected more from the movie. Don't get me wrong...I enjoyed it, and it was inventive as hell, but to me, it was just missing "something" that would have brought it to the next level. Maybe as a Joss Whedon fan, I went into it expecting TOO much.
But it's definitely worth seeing. The cast is very, very good, and I laughed out loud MUCH more than I expected to.
Plus, it has the best usage EVER of an REO Speedwagon song!

Okay so my girlfriend dragged me to go see this movie, her cousin told her it was good. Everybody I talked to who had seen it told me it was bad or the worst. I leaned more toward the majority, I was expecting something pretty boring. The title itself is reminiscent of the prototypical teenage slasher flick. That was further solidified when they stopped at the gas station froze in time, and then the eerie lake. I was prepped for another theatrical dissapointment at a VERY high price.

My interest was renewed when the movie started twisting, prompting me to adjust my plot prediction. I loved the special FX and the quirky cast of characters was a perfect fit for some of the outrageous interactions. The gruesomeness of the first and subsequent killings is what really made me realize this movie was something special. This movie is in a genre of itself. It is such a relief to see a movie go so far left and hit the head on the nail, at a time where theater prices have increased. If people want to get the most out of what they payed for, they should see this movie.! I

I'm glad you liked it! I'm going to see it again this Saturday. I'm also kind of glad that everything pointed toward it being another teens-get-slaughtered horror movie, but then you get blindsided by craziness.

Without spoiled anything, why did the people you talked to not like it?

I think the better question is, why did we like it? From what I've seen on the web with reviews and what not, this movie doesn't get the appreciation that it deserves. I think this will go down as a cult classic. We're apart of this subcategory of people that recognize theatrical genius

I finally got around to seeing THE CABIN IN THE WOODS ....and it prompted me to actually dig out my password and post on ATS for the first time in many moon,,,,

I, also, had heard how terrible this movie was ... and realized early on, that it was so sophisticated, that it flew high over the heads of most of the (kids) that told me this ...

Not spoiling .. because this is one movie that needs to not be opened until Christmas ...and its the gift that wasn't really on your list ... but turned out to be the best you got ....

It works on various different levels ... has multiple sociological messages ..and best yet, pays homage to and references just about every slasher/horror movie there is.( I kept wondering if theyd ever bring in ALIEN ..and right after I thought that ... up pops Sigourney Weaver ...shhhhh)

Evil Dead fans will delight ..... it takes time worn genre cliche by the ankle, turns it upside down, and shakes the grisly bone marrow out of its pockets.....

its a comical movie of metaphor masterpiece on an elevator straight to hell..... bravo.

I got to say, that movie was AWESOME. Couldn't beleive how great it was. It was original and it put all ideas to rest. No body can put another corny horror out again. No one can top how that was made.
