Anti-oilpatch activist Wiebo Ludwig dies at 70

In 2000, Ludwig was found guilty on five charges related to bombings and vandalism of oil and gas wells in northwestern Alberta. He served two-thirds of a 28-month prison sentence before he was released in 2001.

In January 2010, hundreds of RCMP officers searched his 325-hectare farm in Hythe ,Alta., looking for evidence related to six Encana gas pipeline bombings in B.C. between October 2008 and July 2009.

Ludwig, love him or hate him, fought big oil in terms they could understand. He used bombs. The Reverand Ludwig fough hard against the enviromental damage caused by
shale fraking.He lost grandchildren to the enviromental damage and the toxins released from fracking. There is a movie about his life and a documentry about him.

He was a vigilante who fervently believed his family was being poisoned by the gas wells and then of course he was subjected to ridicule instead of a real convincing investigation to prove or disprove that his family was/was not being poisoned. I don't like the methods he supposedly used, but he really seemed to be alone in his fight--at least from my eastern vantage point.
