Colonel Ariel Sanchez, head of the Uruguayan Air Force UFO Office goes into more detail below about how the object changed colours from yellow to orange to red as it increased its acceleration..

Some interesting speculation on UFO colour change from Otto Binder's great book 'What We Really Know About Flying Saucers' (free E-book link below).

Color Changes

Now we come to a different and more spectacular category - the UFO's (still mostly seen in the nighttime) that change colors. Here a remarkable pattern emerges in which the color changes are almost certainly related to the UFO's movements - hovering, speeding up, slowing down, descending, ascending, and high-speed acceleration.

A rough scale would relate the colors to motions in this way:

White - when hovering or moving at uniform speed.

Red and orange - when accelerating.

Blue or blue-white - at extremely high speeds.

Green - when making right-angle turns or performing other aerial maneuvers.

one of the best book analyzing UFO phenomenon and observed patterns in colour, movement, behaviour etc..

thanks again karl12 for sharing this wonderful book..

Milo, no problem mate and that really is an interesting book -I suspect you may have already read it but always thought this was a good one as well.

Saw another interesting pilot case from Uruguay described in Professor Charles A. Maney's book 'The Challenge of Unidentified Flying Objects' so will try and look for more info about that one -also described is the very freaky 1957 UFO case from Itaipu Fortress in Sao Vicente, Brazil where two sentries were said to have received first and second degree burns from a brilliant luminous object which 'darted down, hovered and then engulfed them in a wave of heat' - you're really not wrong about those South American cases.

On at least two occasions, pilots felt intense heat as they attempted to approach UFOs in the air.

Carlos Alejo Rodriguez, a noted Uruguayan pilot, was flying near San Carlos, Uruguay, on May 5, 1958, when he encountered a brilliant aerial object. The UFO neared his plane and appeared to hover about 700 yards away. It was dazzling bright, and no details could be seen. At that moment the pilot felt an intense heat and was forced to open his cockpit and remove some clothing. When he tried to close in on the UFO, it darted away toward the sea and disappeared. NICAP obtained a full report on the incident from C. I. O. V. I., a responsible UFO organization in Uruguay.

Cheers.

Cool case.

Debunk: Cold case, poor English
Alternate debunk. No such dam, no such city, no such country/Fictional case from TV show
Backup alternates: Planet, sundog, smarm of fireflies, bird droppings on aircraft windshields, (several hundred others, in combination if necessary)
S&F

edit on 7-4-2012 by xpoq47 because: (no reason given)

I believe she was joking given the debunkery.
Cool case indeed..and as one poster said it could be one
of ours, as in USAF.

Hola Sealing, could you post a bit more about your reasoning why a self luminous sphere which changed colours as it accelerated to high speed and evaded military aircraft in Uruguayan airspace belonged to the USAF in 1986?

Also. do you think the objects involved in this case from the same month was USAF?

Cheers.

Excerpt of Interview with Colonel Ariel Sanchez (Cridovni)

Among those 40 cases with a high Level of Strangeness which one caught your attention the most?
Could you describe it?

The most shocking events involved Uruguayan aircraft pursuing a UFO. It occurred mainly in 1986. Two military aircraft tried to intercept a UFO which entered Uruguayan airspace without authorization. I believe the Official UFO Night in Brazil occurred in the same year and month (19 May 1986).
