Why hello ATS, i've been a regular reader here for a few months now and thought i'd finally sign up!

Love the site, it seems a bit complex to me atm but i'm sure i'll get used to it.

I have a question... What are stars and those other things under the names of people when they post (the letters) and what do they mean haha?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hey buddy, and welcome!

ATS is complex, but you don't need it all to follow all the good threads!
I just jump to new topics, and see what comes! If I want to find something, I use the search button (very important! You'll find out)

You can give a person a star if you like what he is saying. That will say, when an account has a lot of stars, they have probably said something good and informative. But some also just gets the stars because they are famous on here! Grrr.

Oh, and the letters, I guess you mean the "P" "F" and so on? P is points. You can get them from vary of reasons, like everytime you post something, you get one point.

F is everytime someone flag your thread. Like this thread, I will give you a flag for it. But you normally use it when you like something. So when people got many flags, it means they post a lot, and get a lot of likes so to say.

But welcome buddy

Congratulations (regular reader), you've joined the world's largest and civil alternative topics discussion community! We understand that with rules, policies and just the shear size of the website, it can be quite overwhelming. So we've created a presentation tour with just you in mind.

AboveTopSecret is much like a theme park with many, many rides, with that said...
Here's a few thoughts before getting onto any one of the 1000's of topical rides at Above Top Secret, also known as ATS, the world's largest Civil & Unique Discussion Community.

*** Please be at least this tall to get on any of the rides, (Johnny stretches his arm outward), and act like an 'civil' adult. This will save you a lot of future stress, frustration and possible action by one of your friendly neighborhood Mods!

*** Please remember that some members are very passionate and vocal depending on what ride your on. Before getting on a ride, you should be mentally fit, emotionally stable and have a strong stomach for theories, conjecture, research and evidence presented that may be contrary to your own.

*** Please be "open-minded" enough to understand that sometimes the ride isn't always what you might think or expect. At times, you may learn something new and 'out-of-the-box' before you get off the ride, this is a natural and normal phenomena.

*** Please note that at times the ride gets overly-heated and "it's strongly suggested" to get off the ride to regroup one's thoughts before continuing. This will also help guarantee that the ride will move forward without getting derailed or explode into a fiery trashbin.

*** Please have fun! Be aware if you act in an uncivil-like manner, use profanity, troll, intentionally spread a hoax and/or get verbally abusive, you will be removed off the ride by a Moderator. This is for your safety, & also for those both young and old on the ride with you.

So buckle up, keep your arms within the ride's comfort zone, have fun and "Deny Ignorance"...!

Welcome.

The numbers are confusing and not worth worrying about to be honest, but further to what ypperst said.

P is actually the number of posts you have made, not points, although there is also variable for points, but you can only see that under your full profile, which is here

F and S is stars and flags as ypperst said. the other one is W which stands for "way above top secret" and is a formula worked out from your stars and flags, the people with the top 50 W scores get a gold border and go on this page. The next 50 get a silver boarder like mine.

K is another formula much like W but I dont have a clue how it is worked out, I think it's something to do with how many magic stones the site owners pet frog assigns to you each month under a full moon.

Welcome!

K is Karma. It's a formula that includes stars/flags/number of posts.

Ask any questions you want or need.

We're here to help.
