Never used that small of a pole, although I have a calapsible pole in each of my vehicles and have caught plenty of good size fish with them

this is close to what I have ... pic ... collapsed its about a foot long and extends to about 4 feet (with reel it weighs less then a pound)

I look at it this way, really all you need a pole for is for casting out and sinking in the hook... when ever the reel or pole starts to get over burdened I just grab the line wrap around a stick (or whatever I have handy...instead of using my hands), collapse the pole and drag the SOB in...

I would just get a go reel from cheaper than dirt. its a reel that you put the line in the water then put the reel somewhere secure and when a fish bights a spring in the reel brings the fish in for you so its like a trap.
