What kind of government do YOU believe we are living under currently?

Below is an excerpt from a reply of mine on another thread. It just got me thinking.

Republic: A state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them.

Democracy: A system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives.

Totalitarian: A system of highly centralized government in which one political party or group takes control and grants neither recognition nor tolerance to other political groups.

I wanted to hear opinions on this...

I guess I should also say your replies are not limited to just those three, anything you think it is, post it

I would say no to any of those.
We are living in a Cyclical totalitarian state. When the Right is in power they ignore the Left , when the Left is in power they ignore the Right. Though I will say this is more out of stubborn ignorance then malice We need more parties but people seem to be unwilling to vote for them for some reason.

Awwwww crikey! Our system is such a flippin mess!
As a repuglic we're ENTITLED to a vote but honestly, our votes don't mean squat as evidenced by the recent GOP elections.
Ditto for a democracy.
I don't want to say or recognize it but I'm going to throw myself off of the cliff here & say that unless another Reagan takes office & soon we're certainly headed for a socialist society. Here's to hoping that Obama is our Carter!

Just about how I feel myself.

Sad that you can't just answer "A Democracy!" without thinking anymore.

Thank you for the reply

Dictatorship is screaming and the dictators are smiling.

It was meant to be a Republic, NEVER a Democracy. Strange how you hear the word "democracy" bandied about all the time, even though we are NOT and have never been a democracy. Democracy is mob rule, it has never worked out.

Unfortunately, now it is the very definition of a totalitarian state. The masses have been tricked into gradually consenting to all of it, as part of a long range plan. Now there is no longer anyone who remembers it any other way, and everyone thinks it was just "always this way".

But it is NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THIS WAY.

Personally? I'd say we live in a Representative Republic that is well down the road to morphing into an Oligarchy with some very strong socialist features.

I'd call for a U-Turn (Watch for UN cops and those sanction tickets) and head back to pure Representative Republic. It seemed to work pretty well the first 150 years or so. It still would, if given half a chance.

We are living under a shadow oligarchy. A group of humans whose only desires are money and power have infected our society. We eat poisoned foods. We slave away at jobs that produce nothing but toxic waste and materialistic objects. Our children are brainwashed through the public education system. The values of liberty and freedom are being destroyed. Corporations and governments are slowly and steadily fencing us in with checkpoints, security cameras, and biomedical identification. But there is an inevitable hope. Every construct or system that has a beginning, will by eventuality have an ending. A government that can be destroyed will take measures for it's survival. But one day it will run out of luck and the .00001% chance of it being destroyed will occur. It's only a matter of time.

Yes, we are spiraling into something negative.

I won't say what it is, because I can only speculate but I just know it's really awful.

Thank you for the reply

Well I would say we mostly live in a republic. We do have local government where the average citizen could be elected as mayor, councilman, or the like. Maybe not in a big city but they could in most of America. I think the higher up the level you go money becomes more and more of an issue. You reach a point where you cant play the game without someone buying your way. Well I bet the people handing out millions are not participating in the game to make America a better place for all Americans. They do it to secure their personal intrest which are probably not the same as most Americans. So sometimes it seems a little tolitarian. I think this will always be the case as long as money, business, and government are all mixed together.
