Anyone know what would cause the date stamp time on a picture to be 2097

I'm just wondering because I have some pictures where the time stamp came up to be the year 2097. I even made a copy and my pc still kept the date the same on that picture.

Could I have some type of weird date problem?

Everything else seems to be working ok.

Most likely the setting of Date/Time on the camera that took the photo's was wrong.
Its all stored in the photo's EXIF data.

Time travel.

but seriously, what's in that number 2012? It's not the 2012th year, humans have been here much longer....

Either a wrong date to start with or a late manifestation of the Y2K bug? Best guess. The date should be adjustable though. Maybe you need to attach it to your PC or something and let it sync to the right date?

If you can host the photo somewhere's on the internet, (in original form) myself or another ats'er will be able to look through the exif data and get a concrete answer for you.

It is most probably a simple matter of wrong date set on the camera. It can be changed in most digital cameras, in its settings. Usually its called Date and Time.

If you want to fix this problem, you have to return to the 2000's and get an old IBM 5100 computer. It all has to do with debugging an old UNIX problem.

Ok, thanks for the answers. The picture was probably recorded with the wrong date code on it. Then that data stays with it and even though I can make a copy of it on my pc, the incorrect data stays with it.

I'll leave it at that. Sounds logical.

What year was the device set to? You can set it to any year you want. You can even change the exif data
