I can remember being younger and hearing the phrase "World War III will be fought on American soil." I simply don't remember who said it, in what context or even where I was at when I hear it.

As an American I'd like to think that the U.S. military could ward off an attack on our soil. Now I know that some are going to say what about September 11th, however, I don't want this thread to turn into a discussion about that.

I'm talking about a large scale military attack on the United States on our own soil.

Would it be like in the movie Red Dawn? How would it be done? I think obviously an air attack, but what about ground troops, through Mexico, through Canada?

The other thread on ATS about the number of U.S. troops deployed throughout the world also makes me pose the question of, do we have enough troops here at home to defend?

Thoughts and discussion ?

Thanks,

Early Warning Radar would seriously affect any of those scenarios...

And if some element were able to get a large number of troops on the ground, I'm sure some type of offensive/defensive equipment not yet seen by the public eye would be deployed...even if it had a negative affect on the current populace.

And the discussion of the number of firearms the citizens of north america have in their possession would probably only bring a crap load of rhetoric and conjecture to the OP, so I'll leave it at that.

Look no further than the Call Of Duty Modern Warfare franchise.

is like fighting Mike Tyson while he has a toothache..

We don't have enough military support here in the US, I agree.

But, per Constitutional rights, the Governor of each state can enact several militias...
In essence, inviting all the "armed-to-the-teeth" rednecks and hilljacks (like myself) to defend the country.
Therefore, giving the US a considerable amount of firepower from behind the blades of grass.
Which I can guarantee would happen, if said war took place on our soil.

Now, if the citizens would fight a battle that was caused from it's own gov'ts atrocities, is a good question.

But when all is said and done...
I am not too worried.
It would be one hell of a fight.

The first step would be to unite your own citizens ,Now how could that be achieved ?
Through fear or pride

Are you talking about today or 50 years from now? Today there isn't a nation on the planet that can challenge the States ANYWHERE. In 50 years that will change, unless the States do. I'm somewhat insulted that it was said that an attack could come through Canada. Are we not paranoid enough to protect your northern border?

Only a fool will think that the USA can be conquered by a land invasion . The only way to defeat USA is : economic collapse .

Merry Meet,

My personal opinion on World War III is that we need not worry about that right now. We, as Americans have only one issue to worry about right now, and that is Civil War II. The ability to fight back using Constitutional Methods to take back our government is what is needed. As citizens, we have given too much power to the Federal "branch" of government, and taken all the rights of the individual States away. Our Republican style government has approached the level that led Rome into an Imperial State.

World War III can be halted if each individual State and Countries of the world build up their own infrastructure. It is not a war of physical conflagration but of ideals and principles. In this case, World War III has been going on since the Cold War.

This is merely my two cents and we know that pennies mean nothing.

I am not sure who said this either, but I am sure they are correct to a degree. Personally I believe world war 3 will involve public revolution against the banks across the world and the banks will use thier influence by getting countries to destroy each other.

The police and some military will split as many will defect to the side of the people, but a hardened core wont and these will include submariners and nuke specialists etc... Mercs will fight on the side of the bankers for profit.

I remember reading a thread the other day about the effects of an enemy EMP being set of above USA and what the effects would be.

I think without starting a full scale nuclear war if you were to attack America phase one would be an EMP attack.

I dont believe an EMP attack would effect the military too much but it would certainly effect the civilians. There would be so much chaos in the civilian sector that they would proberly not realise that they were under attack untill enemy boots entered there town or city.

Phase two would bee more difficult, enemy special forces would need to take hold of the American missile silos acquire the nuclear launch codes and prevent USA from retaliating with a nuclear response. The best way to do this I would think is to capture Air Force 1 and the President while the plane and president is away on a visit on foreign soil.

Phase 3 would then be to move boots on to the ground for a full invasion of American military installations, like a previous poster said it would be one hell of a fight.

Realistically if said invasion was to happen the enemy would have to do the following 3 phases to every country in the UN not just America after all we are just one big team.

So who is the likely enemy going to be in such a scenario is the question???

Probably Russia and China working together, either super power on its own would not be enough to take out the UN together it would be one hell of a fight probably resulting in the near destruction of humanity.

Just spit-balling here:

....do we have enough troops here at home to defend?

I would have to say that any and all contingencies are, have been, and will continue to be considered in the "puzzle palaces".

Seems reasonable to presume that any sort of "invasion force" could not be mounted unobserved, by the many and varied U.S. and NATO assets. Assuming no type of Star Trek transporter and "beaming in", of course....just conventional and known technologies.

Oh, one more thing....regarding "troops" here at "home base"? The Reserves. AKA the "Weekend Warriors". Something to consider.

A land war within the continental US would not go well for the invading armies.

The rest of the world has no idea how armed we (the citizens) are.
Texans especially.

Some of you would not believe the incredible amount of firepower the average Texan has.
We're ready.

Some quick and simple thoughts come to mind.
1. Sun Tzu: look at all of the "new" Chinese buffets that have opened up as well as the Chinese freight cars rolling through American towns.
2. There are at least 4 Chinese satellites above the U.S. (in strategic positions) at all times. These could easily deploy multiple EMP warheads.
3. Then the ground invasion would begin. Refer back to # 1.

I dont think this is very plausible. NO troop squad would dar enter the strongest millitary country in the world on foot or in a calvary. They would be taken out instantly with any attack from the air. THE only way it would be possible to amass the needed amount of troops would be through mexico, and im sure the US has intel and spying drones at all corners of the planet. This is nothing more than a fear mongering thread IMHO. Its just not possible!

It certainly is not a fear mongering thread. It's a legitimate question and the discussion is going nicely.

Interesting.....not plausible yet, but interesting as a concept nonetheless:

1. Sun Tzu: look at all of the "new" Chinese buffets that have opened up as well as the Chinese freight cars rolling through American towns.

I see where you're going here....sort of a "Trojan Horse" concept??

Ok then I will say again IMO it is an impossibility. Heres a quote from a japanese admiral as to why:

Quote:"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass." - Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto

This is a Conspiracy Site afterall, so here is my opinion.....

Even during USSR's hayday, they wouldn't dare set foot on American soil. I have been told this in conversations with men that used to rank highly in that military. They felt completely comfortable in defeating our military, but they never felt like invasion was a possibility. Too many ornery and armed Americans.

So, the only way WWIII plays out on American Soil is if we first invite the troops here. I believe that is how it would go down. We invite UN Peacekeepers, and Foreign militaries here for training or otherwise. Our government in collusion with their governments to keep a contingency of troops here to quell domestic unrest. US Military won't be effective against our own citizens, too many will pick the right side. So, as our government becomes more and more corrupt, and more and more fearful of its people, it makes contingency plans to use foreign troops.

In that scenario, eventually the people revolt, and they get support from some foreign groups and also from some US Military, but the government gets assistance from the UN and foreign groups, and the US becomes the New Vietnam or Afghanistan. It is basically a civil war, but with both sides supported, armed, funded, and protected by world powers. As the war rages on, they pour more and more men and equipment into the US on both sides, and this is the battleground for the Last Great War.

Just my uneducated opinion, but that is the only way I see it being plausible, and that is the scenario I am planning to be prepared for.

I don't see any foreign military with the might or confidence to invade here. They'll have to already be here to be effective.
